58 Co-Parenting

"What is it?" Damien asked with exasperation. He wanted to tell Marcel to just leave Liam to stay the night and he would drop him off the next day, but seeing how adamant he was about going back home with him, to the point where he came over to his house while he was still inebriated, just showed that there was nothing he could say that would change his mind.

"Can you help me carry him, I feel like I'll drop him if I do," Marcel said self-consciously. Damien briefly looked at him before nodding in agreement.

Marcel walked towards the bed and sat on one side before he started his efforts of waking Liam up. He swept his soft hair away from his face and cupped one of his cheeks. Rather than wake up, Liam seemed to be getting comfortable as he snuggled against Marcel's palm.

"Liam, wake up," Marcel called gently as he continued playing with his soft cheeks. Liam's eyebrows furrowed before hugging Marcel's arm so he would stop playing with his face, but he did not wake up.

"You could just leave him here overnight if he doesn't want to wake up," Damien suggested, but Marcel immediately rejected him.

"I want to spend the day with him tomorrow before I take him back on Monday, I wish I didn't have to but there are so many things I didn't think about that I must sort out so we can live comfortably," Marcel said as he continued to stroke Liam's cheeks with his fingers.

"Like what?" Damien asked curiously.

"Like how I'm going to take care of him on top of work. This has been bugging me for a while now since I don't have a fixed schedule and I don't want to leave him to fend for himself." Marcel explained as he blinked lazily. He felt like he was using so much brain power for such a simple conversation.

"I can be his guardian," Damien suggested without thinking much about it. Marcel cautiously looked at Damien after hearing his suggestion.

"Don't get me wrong, I just work for fixed hours and I believe I've been able to connect with him even though it hasn't been long since we met. You can have him every day, but on the days you won't be available, I can look after him in your stead. Besides, it'll be faster if I get him out of the orphanage compared to you," Damien explained. Marcel still looked sceptical, but he could accept that explanation.

"Are you suggesting co-parenting?" Marcel asked, and Damien's expression became awkward. Wasn't that for couples that weren't together anymore? How was this co-parenting?

"Please don't put a label on our arrangement, it'll be weird," Damien said with a sour expression. Marcel laughed but nodded in agreement.

"Well, I'll have to think about it. Have you ever taken care of a child before?" Marcel asked Damien as if he was interviewing a babysitter. He had the guts to do this because of the alcohol in his system, otherwise, he wouldn't have dared.

"I have nieces and nephews, I've looked after them when my siblings needed to travel or took some time off," Damien answered, deciding to cooperate with the impromptu interview.

Marcel nodded with a blank look on his face. If what Damien said was true then he probably had more experience with taking care of children since he had only been taking care of Liam for a little over a week now, and even in his past life he neither had children nor siblings, he had been fending for himself for most of his life.

So, from a logical standpoint, it was true that Damien was more qualified to take care of Liam but he still couldn't help but hesitate on making such a decision that is going to impact Liam's growth to such an extent.

Marcel sat on the bed with a serious expression and Damien said nothing as he watched Liam with his cool grey eyes. That was until the silence in the room was disturbed by a childish voice.

"Big brother?" Liam said as his eyes opened just a little bit. He was feeling very sleepy seeing how he could barely keep his eyes open, but there was something that kept on playing with his face to the point he couldn't ignore it anymore.

"Mmh, I came to take you back home," Marcel said and Liam nodded as he was drifting off to sleep once again.

"I can't carry you so uncle will be taking you to the van, okay?" Marcel said as he stood up from the bed but it was useless as Liam had fallen asleep again. Damien gave a low chuckle as he took a light blanket and wrapped Liam in it before effortlessly lifting him from the bed.

"Let's go," Damien said as he walked out of the room. Marcel quickly picked up Liam's belongings before following Damien out of the room.

He watched as Liam snuggled closer to Damien's warm body and draped his arms around his neck in an attempt to get comfortable before he took a deep breath and went back to sleep.

Marcel had never known Liam to be such a deep sleeper. He didn't think he would be knocked out to this extent when he came to pick him up.

The three of them got out of the luxurious villa and the people in Marcel's van watched in disbelief as Marcel got in the car first before receiving Liam from Damien.

"I'll see you next week, I'll tell my secretary to inform you when I'll have time," Damien said to Marcel and Marcel nodded in response.

"Thank you for taking care of him, and I'm sorry for any inconvenience," Marcel said in grat.i.tude. It was basic manners to do so since Damien spent so much effort to take care of Liam.

"No problem," Damien then scanned the people in the car with his cold eyes before his eyes landed on Julia.

"I'll need to talk to you," Damien said and Julia smiled mysteriously before nodding in a.s.sent.

"Take care of him," Damien said to Marcel before walking back to his villa. Marcel wasn't even given the chance to respond to Damien before he disappeared.

"Well, let's go back home. I'm so tired today," Marcel said as he cradled Liam in his arms so he was more comfortable before he too rested against the comfortable seat.
