Chapter 380 Magmaggot

Hang City, Fortress One.

The newly appointed commander, Lei Runyun, watched as Xiang Ning killed his way through battle like Death reaping souls. Even a seasoned soldier like him couldn’t help but gulp. He had never fathomed watching a scene like this before.

Every person who was awarded the Broken Blade Knight was exceptional. They were often similar to Xiang Ning, some even killing a tier seven Beast King as a tier six fighter. Same impressive skills, same scale of power, same disbelief.

But what shocked him the most was that the eight-hundred-meter radius around Xiang Ning was now empty. It was terrifying to see not a single living beast in a circle around someone!

“We have the numbers. That was a total of nine hundred and seven beasts!” reported the vice-commander.

Although Lei Runyun estimated Xiang Ning to have killed a thousand based on watching him, he was still shocked when he heard the specific number. Nine hundred beasts in seven seconds! Perhaps that would be a record even future people couldn’t break.

There were more people in just as much shock on the battlefield. The teenager standing alone looked like a deity.

“Who is he?”

“Xiang Ning!”

Xiang Ning was like a hero from fairytales. They were only familiar with one kind of weapon that could kill a thousand beasts in less than ten seconds… Right behind them stood the fortress cannons that could bomb thousands of beasts to death.

But Xiang Ning was one person!

Fang Rou watched Xiang Ning, who was now the object of much admiration, her beautiful eyes filled with gentle warmth.

The rest of the team wasn’t sure what to say. Just like Xiang Ning had said, this period of time was the best opportunity for them to overtake him. They had capitalized on that to the best of their abilities, too, but the moment he returned, they realized they were still far behind.

But at least they were all tier four martial artists. Wu Rui himself was already tier four, six-star. “Sigh, this sucks! I worked so hard for so long but still can’t catch up. That bastard still had a few tricks up his sleeve, he wasn’t just resting these past six months.” He knew Xiang Ning. Although he had believed the doctors after seeing Xiang Ning post-injury, his words when he was leaving Hang City had reignited his hopes. Yet he never would have expected Xiang Ning would grow so much stronger.

Xiang Ning removed the artillery attachment on the weapon, revealing the Devourer’s true appearance. His violent killing had naturally attracted many powerful beasts, including the three tier six beasts that were now not far away.

Lei Runyun hadn’t wanted Xiang Ning to deal with them, but they were now coming to him.

The first to arrive was a white maggot called a Magmaggot, also called the King of the Land with rows of sharp teeth that could pierce through any material. According to legend, if it wanted to, a tier seven Magmaggot could drill itself into the center of the earth.

The maggot was eight meters long and unleashed a roar that sounded like a human baby’s cry. It could even imitate the cries of the humans it killed while spewing a liquid as hot as lava.

“Waaa—waaa—waaa— RUN!!”

“Waaa—waaa—waaa— RUN!!”

“Waaa—waaa—waaa— RUN!!”

The maggot cried and cried until it sounded like a mantra. Every fighter, even those standing far away, felt their hair stand on end.

Xiang Ning smirked, because the Devourer sensed that the maggot contained enough energy to replenish the strength it had previously lost! To other people, a Magmaggot was a terrifying beast of nightmares, but to Xiang Ning, it was food for his Devourer. If anyone knew about that, the crowds would go into a frenzy again.

He observed the silence around him. The other two beasts were rushing over too but would only arrive in about a minute. He must kill the maggot within one minute; a gathering of three tier six beasts was enough to make him very nervous. He wasn’t a god of war, unlike others thought.

Lower-tier beasts now didn’t dare to tread lightly into the empty space Xiang Ning had cleared before him. Thus, it was a great location for a battle.

The Magmaggot’s eyes rolled around as it cried its nasty cry. Something seemed to be accumulating in its abdomen, then, in two seconds, it spewed reddish brown liquid out of its mouth.

It looked like a slow-moving beast, but the spew was as quick as a bullet from a pistol.

Xiang Ning was surprised by it, but calmly pressed a button on the Devourer. Instantly, two blades grew from the central blade so it turned from a longsword to a broadsword.

The new Devourer was Dong Qianyi’s work. His initial intent had been to allow the weapon to puncture a target more effectively, but never would he have imagined that Xiang Ning’s first time using it would be for swatting away magma droplets spewed by a Magmaggot.

The Magmaggot made what looked like a puzzled expression similar to all the confused audience members.

“What weapon is that? I can’t believe it can change that way!”

“Don’t even think about it. Bioweapons hold potential for all kinds of creative forms. It isn’t something a common person can get.”

“Sigh, I really want one.”

Countless people admired Xiang Ning’s weapon, fantasizing about their own. Who wouldn’t want such a powerful weapon?

“Waa–waa–waa!” The Magmaggot indignantly spewed magma, though this time Xiang Ning swatted the stream back at it. If it hadn’t reacted fast enough, it would have eaten the phlegm it’d just spat out.

The maggot burrowed back into the ground. Xiang Ning’s Combat Instinct grew more sensitive.

“We’re finished! It burrowed underground!”

“What do you mean? It’s clearly running away from Xiang Ning.”

“Shut up, an underground Magmaggot is truly terrifying. You can only notice its presence the second before it reappears, and if you don’t, you’ll be eaten and melted by the magma in its stomach!”

“That can’t be true?!”

“It’s called the King of the Land for a reason!”

Xiang Ning knew that as well. He had studied hard in Marsh City and become somewhat of an expert in beasts himself. Comprehension truly was a lifesaver in that regard.

In about three seconds, he sensed the maggot, who was previously two hundred meters away, beneath his feet. When it was about to move….

“No, not there!” Xiang Ning stabbed his sword into the ground and the maggot reappeared, not beneath his feet, but to his left so it bit the hilt of his sword instead of him.

Get wrecked! Don't think you can escape MC's gaze!
