Chapter 379 The True Devourer

Technically speaking, martial artists launched single-target attacks while spiritual cultivators launched multi-target attacks. So what was a tier five, six-star spiritual cultivator capable of on the battlefield? He could protect everyone within a thirty-meter radius of himself!

Xiang Ning held Fang Rou in his arms, a huge weight lifting off his chest. He had missed this feeling and didn’t want to let go, but the beasts came one after another.

He frowned.

Ding! Disguise activated. Please select a target.

Target acquired. Disguise as Octoviolet Silversnake.

Sovereign’s Throne activated.

A terrifying aura slowly seeped from his body, like the darkness of the void. But when you stare into this void, not only is it staring back, but it also radiates the bloodlust of a tyrant, a king!

The Blizzard Fox came from high-ranking blood and was definitely not weaker than the Simian Sage or Grimclaw. Choosing to disguise as them wouldn’t have much effect, but these beasts knew what the Octoviolet Silversnake’s presence meant. It was a special beast with capabilities beyond the realm of common beasts, and had strange powers.

How did the beasts see Xiang Ning after his Sovereign’s Throne was activated?

Ice-cold. Rigid. Tyrannical. Terrifying. Horrifying. The embodiment of all negative emotions in one body. It was an extremely ruthless, gigantic python. Every animal in the vicinity, including the Blizzard Fox, skidded to a halt from the instinctive fear that they couldn’t resist.

Just like that, another minute passed. Fang Rou pried herself from Xiang Ning’s arms and looked up at his familiar face. If it weren’t for the crowd around them, she would have kissed him.

But Xiang Ning lowered his head and pressed his lips against hers anyway. Fang Rou’s breathing quickened, her eyes widened in shock, and her face turned red. But the kiss only lasted for two seconds and there wasn’t even time for other people to do a double-take.

“Alright, time to fall back.” Xiang Ning looked at everyone and twenty tier five knives started orbiting him. There were still soldiers patrolling outside of his thirty-meter radius to prevent any beasts from breaking in.

Within the command center, the commander looked at the teenager on-screen. “He grew stronger again.”

“By a lot, too,” sighed the vice-commander.

“The kid’s a monster.”

The commander picked up his communicator and connected it to Xiang Ning’s earpiece. “Xiang Ning, I’m sending you a map of our fighters from the fortress. I hope you can assist them and bring them back.” The vice-commander wanted to say something, but the commander stopped him. “The highlighted dots are where three tier six beasts are. Be careful of those.”

“Roger that,” Xiang Ning agreed without hesitation.

The vice-commander blurted, “Why, Sir?!”

“With great power comes great responsibility. If he can, why shouldn’t he?”

“But, the higher-ups were already displeased by what happened last time, if any problems arise from this—”

“I take full responsibility,” the commander coldly said.

“Yes, sir.” The vice-commander looked at this commander, who had only taken the post two months ago, with complicated emotions in his eyes. The last commander of Fortress One was the elderly general, but he had sustained severe injuries fighting two Beast Kings two months ago. He’d since slipped into a coma and still hadn’t woken up, his condition more serious than Xiang Ning’s previous condition.

This commander had been sent from Heavenly Star City and was more decisive about using all the resources at hand to achieve his goals, but he was perhaps a little too decisive. Take Xiang Ning, for example. Before this, the commander had attempted to dissuade Xiang Ning from dangerous operations, but now, once Xiang Ning had made his stance clear, he was direct about using the boy.

All the vice-commander could do was hope that he would return safe.

“Xiang Ning.…” Fang Rou tugged at his hand, not wanting him to leave. She had suppressed too many emotions for six months, and now that he was right in front of her, she wanted to tell him all about the hardships she had faced during their time apart.

“Don’t worry, I promise, I’ll return safely.” Xiang Ning patted her head with a smile.

“No, you’re lying. You always say that.” Fang Rou pouted. She really didn’t want him to risk his life again. Wu Rui and the rest stood aside, not speaking, but they, too, didn’t want him to go. It was too dangerous.

Xiang Ning then whispered something into her ear and her face instantly turned tomato red, her hand letting go while she looked at him and stuttered, “You… you said it! I… I’ll wait for you… if not… you’re finished!”

He smiled and nodded, then took the black tube from his back and placed it in front of him. The lid opened and revealed a sharp, demonic weapon. Fang Rou silently prayed that it would continue protecting him.

Taking out his sword, Xiang Ning smirked. He had learned his lesson the last time, and the past month hadn’t been a waste. With the help of two Great Prodigies, the Devourer was much different from before. When he first saw the improved weapon, he mused that the two men must have gone mad with grief.

......

Xiang Ning stepped into battle with his twenty blades orbiting around him, killing every enemy in his way.

A tier five Iron Tank menacingly approached, every heavy step shaking the earth.

He smirked. At this point, he had arrived at the center of the stampede amidst hundreds of beasts with no humans around him.

“Let’s try this.”

Xiang Ning punched the attachment on the Devourer, shattering a glass bead. A grayish black goo instantly slithered out, forming a strange shape. In three seconds, it had turned into a wide-barreled sniper rifle with the bioweapon’s core as the energy source.

Taunt Activated!

Xiang Ning released a roar that spread across the battlefield. His Fury Points skyrocketed and he guffawed. He was completely surrounded with nowhere to run.

“What’s he going to do?”

“I think his bioweapon morphed into something?”

“Yeah, why does it look like a gun now?”

A ray of red and black energy shot out of the rifle. In the blink of an eye, a hundred beasts in the path of the light pillar died.

Xiang Ning fired in every direction, each shot killing about a hundred beasts while the flying knives orbiting around him protected him.

Ten shots later, almost a thousand beasts had been killed. Xiang Ning had barely arrived at the battlefield an hour ago, but had already appeared on the Hunter’s Board. The audience members that witnessed the massacre were absolutely mesmerized.

MC's weapon is now a gunblade
