"Fine. You are off the case."
This was the best thing that happened all day. I saw a way out. And this was a good time to make a run.
"One more thing, you have a bigger trouble than that I think. Sonia had a belly ring and Jamey had a necklace with real rubies so I don't think that they should be missing at both the same time." I said remembering the rotating display of pictures out front of the club.
It was the first thing I saw in the designer frame the main feature at the entrance. The place was renovated by top architects. Every detail was top notch.
"How could you possibly know that?' she asked after a long pause.
"They were at the Finex a few days ago. Sonia works there so it's not a surprised. I saw a picture in a frame by the entrance of the place. They run it all day and night. The staff will be sending it in on Monday."
"Thanks but the ruby isn't any newsworthy," She said sarcastically.
"It is, it's famous. Said to drain soul that is not female but it isn't on the body so it could get complicated." I said raking my hand over my hair frustrated. She really was getting on my nerves acting all high and powerful. "I'm off the case but good luck."
"Thanks, for nothing. I now got to go talk to the b.i.t.c.h and Mr. Money." She said cuttingly.
"No good bye?" I asked into the dead line.
The talk was over and there was one less thing to do. There was still a long list of things I need to do turning the corner I saw that Messalina was still open and had a few items on the shelves.
I made an impulse decision I was going grocery shopping, now. Messalina is mini-supermarket in a trendy street was never going to be cheap but I really was hungry and with all the work I've done today. I deserved a little reward. I really did need to eat. The deli counter was luxuries with exotic cheeses and meats, everything organic and premium. It smelled good but everything looks expensive and usually was expensive as it looks. Even the humans knew this place was too fancy for them and stayed away.
Looking at the sign. There was a promotion so it would seem I was lucky today. I step in and look over at the menu to see what I could afford.
"What is your going to order?" Lena at the bar asked.
"That wrap. Two pound of tomatoes, three pounds of alligator meat, six gallons of goat milk, three cases of premium root beer and ten bags of Italian instant cocoa, please." I decided to point at what looks like cheese and ham.
"You can have the tomatoes and milk today."
"It's out of stock?"
"Garry went home early. So I don't have the keys." Lena said smiling sweetly. "Sorry, we'll deliver it for free."
She wrote me a slip. The items were going to be delivered to my place on Monday. I smiled and thank her.
Moving out of my aunts' place had been a dramatic change for me. For the average teen surviving college they could go out eat pizza and a burger. For me, it just couldn't be done like that because of magic. Sure, I'll get a good tasting meal but it'll lack the nutrition I need to survive. My body functions differently than a human, I need exotic meat or game meat and lots of herbs implicated and long cooking hours until the food was ready to eat. The better it was made, the more delicate it was cook, the better it tasted and the healthier it was for me.
For the older and powerful beings, they need to eat only once every few years so they could afford to enjoy food. However, for the younger ones like me, it varies from a few days to two months depending on the quality of the meal.
