Chapter 1

Xia Mo looked at the machine which indicated the total human population left, and there is about 40 billion 2 thousand people left. She lifted her head and observed her surroundings. Once they are able to defend themselves from the monster wave once, the game should end.

She breathed in deeply and swung both swords in her hands and dashed to the nearest monster, and informed the people next to her: "Follow up quickly. Once this wave of monster attacks the city, it should signal the end of the game"

Before she could finish, she felt a coldness in her chest and felt her energy being drained from her hands. She lowered her head and saw that there is a long sharp sword protruding out from her chest. And this sword looks really familiar isn't this the sword that I just gave to her?

"You are right; your game is over." The familiar voice to her sounded like the death god from hell. Xia Mo tried her best to turn around but her brain started to blur out and she only saw darkness. Just before she lost her consciousness, she saw a pair of cloud designed shoes in front of her eyes.

"Your character is dead."

"I am sorry, in this game of DUST, you are eliminated."

The scene before her revealed a pitch black space and Xia Mo felt cold sweats down her spine and she trembled uncontrollably. All her hopes had now become despair.

"As you have been eliminated from the game, your cold chamber #897613422 will be destroyed and terminated. Countdown begins. 10, 9, 8"

Not a lot of people can understand how it feels. When you only had 10 seconds left in your life, what would you think about? Or maybe you would not think of anything? You can only quietly wait for death to approach.

Xia Mo stared at the darkness in front of her, and tried her best to see some light. When her life was going to end at the last instant, not only her heart felt so much despair, she had so much revenge and regret that she cannot described.

She destroyed the chance that her parents gave her to stay alive. She could have easily stayed on until the game ended. But why???

Why!!!

Other than all the skills that could help her in the game, what other needs would she required to survive in the new world?

She was so full of hatred now.

She thought of numerous times of how she might end her life, but she could not imagine that this is how she would die.

How could this be? I hate this!

Her trust, her support, and all her hope, are all destroyed because of her best friend.

I cannot rest in peace!

If, if my life could restart again, she would definitely survive till the end the end!

But in this world, there are no ifs

"4, 3 ,2 "

The countdown continues The system continues at its own pace as though this is doing its job and not just mercilessly trying to take away one person's life.

Xia Mo closed her eyes. She wanted to cry. But her eyes were so dry.

Good bye to this world.

Good bye to the chance to stay alive.

When the countdown hits "1" and did not continued, Xia Mo was impatient and started to feel anger. She opened both her eyes, and a blinding light shone through her, and she lost all her senses.

Maybe it was just a moment. Maybe it was a long sleep.

When Xia Mo woke up, she could hear a lot of noisy mechanical sounds, and she opened her eyes. And was stunned.

How come she was still in the game? She blinked her yes, and looked at her surroundings. Xia Mo was suspicious if her brain was playing tricks on her. She raised both of her hands, moved it around to look. She tightened and released her hand grips. She could feel the sensation and also pain. This did not feel like death, and also not a scene that the brain was projected when she was alive. This feeling- she was alive.

Is this a bug?

The mechanical sound next to her ear kept on talking, and now Xia Mo focused on what the sound was saying.

"According to the International Federal Law No 3914, the second regulation" Xia Mo listened to it for a whole, and found it extremely familiar. She thought for a while, wasn't this the system explaining about the game in the beginning?

At that time, she realized that in order to enter the game known as Dust, her parents had given up their life so she had a chance to be in the Project X.

This set of instructions was only explained once at the beginning of the game, and then saved into the game settings. If you do not understand about what happened, they could check it again in details. If she recalled correctly.

This was the start of the game!

Xia Mo was shocked, was she travelling back in time or was she dreaming?

She closed her fist tightly, she did not care about what the reason was, as long as she was able to start again, she would not make the same mistake again!

And, and that revenge that I must seek!

The mechanized sound continued explaining, but Xia Mo chose to abruptly end it. When the game character chose to end the instructions, the main system would scan the brain of the players, and confirm if the players had really fully understood the content. If not, the system would force you to listen to the instructions and explanations again, and this time the player cannot end it until the end. And then the player can enter the game officially.

Dust is a game created by the International Federal which took nearly 100 years and a lot of money to accomplish. To put it bluntly, this was not only a game, but it was used to select the new generation of humans to walk on Earth again. The programming in the game had multiple considerations and the content provided was shocking in many layers.

The International Federal had left all the humans a chance to survive in the almost dying Earth. And it was the only thing that they could achieve.

Xia Mo switched off the program menu as the system had already recognized from her brains that she had understood what happened.

How could she not understand the content? She could recall and say everything without missing a word if she wanted to.

In DUST, there were many starting villages. She did not know how many there were.

To accommodate 120 billion people all at the same time was not an easy feat. However, Dust server and hardware with its latest technology allowed the players to feel that the in game experience was very similar to the real world. The only difference was that in this game, players can use their own brainwave to summon the game menu to check their status or missions.

When the player had fully understood the content, the system would insert the player in a random starter village. And the player has the freedom to choose how he wanted to live his life.

Xia Mo found herself in the starter village. It is exactly the same starter village that she started in based on her memory. At this point of time, there were no other players, but only a few NPC. Later, there would be many players with various reactions to what happened to them. Some would be depressed and denied the truth, or enthusiastically accepted the truth. There were some players who even started killing other players after leaving the starter village.
