Extraordinary Memory (1)
The next day, upon hearing her grandma and mother waking, Yang ZiMei also got up. Then she got ready to head up the mountain to look for the priest.
Rural children in the 90's were very independent. As long as they came back to eat, their activities wouldn't be restricted because the adults were also too busy themselves.
Arriving at the foot of the mountain, the sky was still dark, it wasn't 6 o'clock yet. Since she didn't see the priest yet, she decided to head up the mountain alone.
On the still mountain road, surrounded by mist, it was dim and chilly with sounds of insects and birds. There was also the occasional unusual and spooky sounds.
If it was an ordinary 5 year old girl, it'd be strange for her not to be scared to death.
However, Yang ZiMei wasn't scared. She was already a person with two lives and had been homeless before so she's experienced quite a bit. Other than the fear of not being able to change the hands of fate, she's not scared of anything else.
Only that her legs are just too short and small, and, her fitness was lacking so it'll be difficult to tread up the mountain.
About halfway up the mountain, she sees the form of the old priest clothed in cyan in front of her.
"Master……Good……Morn……ing……I……came……"
She was out of breath tired and stooped over but still respectfully greeted the priest.
The old priest was a little moved.
Just now, he had planned to head down the mountain to pick her up but saw her little silhouette appearing early at the bottom and that she had started trekking up. So he motionlessly stood there, watching her advance step by step, even using her hands and feet to climb up. He was very much elated.
He's very lucky to be able to receive a disciple with such determination at her age, in his later years. It's really the blessing of the ancestors.
"Why didn't you wait for master to come get you? Are you not scared?" The old priest bent down to bring her over, asked. But then he saw that the spot bashed by the Buddha's gourd from the other day had turned into a vermillion mole. He was startled again.
Yang ZiMei shook her head, "I'm not afraid. I just want to quickly learn even a bit more of the Dao."
She expectantly looked at the old priest but suddenly found that above his head, a faint and fuzzy line of words gradually becoming more clear: Li YuQing, originally named Li JunJie; born in 1880; 1911 - partic.i.p.ated in the Xinhai Revolution; 1919 - partic.i.p.ated in the May Fourth Movement; 1937 - partic.i.p.ated in the War of Resistance against j.a.pan; 1945 - began study of Dao……
Born in 1880?
Doesn't that mean her priest master is 112 years old? Looking at his face, it seems even younger than her sixty year old grandpa. He doesn't even have a wrinkle on his face, only, his hair and beard is white.
Moreover, looking at his spirited demeanor, there doesn't seem to be any signs of decline. Is it the result of cultivating the Dao?
Thinking of this, she's even more determined to learn the Dao from him.
Seeing her stare at the top of his head, priest YuQing thought it odd and asked, "Sweetie, what are you looking at?"
"Master, how old are you?"
"This priest is 112 years old, do you believe?"
Sure enough, he's 112 years old. Is seems what she saw was real.
Why is she able to see this? Even though what she saw wasn't much, but it's very unusual and after every read, she gets a little dizzy.
"Master, you look even younger than my grandpa and without a single wrinkle, is it the result of cultivating the Dao? Is it not like what my grandma says, like deities with everlasting life and youth?" Yang ZiMei asked with a face of innocence and naivety.
TL note: I should prob add this here. Sweetie or 妞妞 is a way of calling the mc that the people close to her uses. Little girl or girly is, by definition, more accurate but those sound creepy af.
