Life is generally tiring especially for s.h.i.+ Fan Hai, or rather, Han Fengyu.
However, no excuse is acceptable to be vicious.
The teenage girl felt weak from all the revelations she had heard all afternoon until that night. Yet, she's not done.
"Didn't you know that I was on board that s.h.i.+p? The Great Adventurer." Shaking her head, unable to fathom how her older brother's mind works, she probed meekly.
"I knew."
His answer made her gasp in amazement. She covered her gaping mouth with her bare hand.
"That's why I waited for all the pa.s.sengers to disembark first."
"!!!!"
"So you mean if I hadn't been there…" She trailed off not being able to express her train of thoughts, then shuddered.
The more her brother talks, the greater her bewilderment and torment she harbored within her.
"Come to think of it, it's just a small prank." The man chided his justification. "It's meant to scare the Xue's a bit. Especially Xue Jinxu.
"A bit, you say? You call that small? A prank, huh? People were still inside! Those were people I mingled with for two weeks. Some of them I even interviewed and exchanged some memorable good times. They got hurt because of a… prank?"
"Ahhh!!!" Kang Sola pulled her hair out of vexation. "It seems that I don't know you anymore. Oh right, I don't know you enough to begin with. I'm so foolish to look up to you. It's disappointing… So frustrating!"
"You even targeted my friend, Guangxi!"
"You don't know him yet when it happened."
"Oh, your point is we've met AFTER the incident, is that what you are saying? Wait, were you monitoring me? All this time? How come you knew when we met?"
"You're living alone. How can I let you be on your own?" s.h.i.+ Fan Hai rebuked her arguments and accusations with such a hoa.r.s.e, annoyed tone. "Why are you coming at me in his defense? That kid did his fair share of bad deeds to you. You shouldn't have rekindled your friends.h.i.+p with him when you've already turned away from him."
Kang Sola gawked at him in utter amazement. 'He knew everything! Oh my G.o.d!'
Then, a sudden lightbulb ignited a random thought.
"No way! Don't tell me were you the one behind the rumors about him?" Kang Sola scoffed and scowled at him.
"So now you've decided to blame me on every single d.a.m.n thing, huh?"
"I don't know what you're capable, or rather, what you're NOT capable of doing, Fengyu-Oppa." She gritted her teeth. Subconsciously, her arms curled around her stomach. She's terribly hungry.
The small action did not escape s.h.i.+ Fan Hai's observations. He picked up a phone and pinched in some keys. "One box of chicken delivered… Yes... Yes... This is the address." Then he threw his phone on the couch.
"What was that for?" Still angry, Kang Sola berated.
"Your food will arrive in fifteen minutes. Calm your growling stomach first, then we'll resume this talk if you're still not satisfied." He stood up.
"Where are you going?!" Kang Sola inquired with such intensity.
"To the study, Young Miss." Mocking, s.h.i.+ Fan Hai answered, quite fascinated. The corners of his lips were slightly curved up.
"HMPH!!!" Kang Sola threw a fit. She crossed her arms on her chest, then slouched on the sofa. Her brows were still furrowed with anger. "You're evading me!"
"Think what you want to think." When it came to Xue Guangxi, he truly felt p.i.s.sed, but he had better judgment not to openly show it to his sister.
After a few minutes, the food delivery service arrived and rang the doorbell. s.h.i.+ Fan Hai went out to get his order. Then, he placed the box of newly fried chicken on the table containing eight pieces of drumsticks and wings. The aroma oozed out from it and was vented as visible, appetizing smoke.
Kang Sola's body reacted violently from the pleasant smell, demanding her to grab a juicy piece of meat. She turned her head away, with a strong resolve not to give in.
"You're not eating?" s.h.i.+ Fan Hai verbalized his observations.
"I have to go. It's late." She grabbed onto her bag beside her on the couch.
"Stay for the night. Or I'll drop you off at your lodging. It's not safe for you to go alone."
"No, thanks." Kang Sola sprung up to her feet and hurriedly pa.s.s through her brother.
"Eat first." s.h.i.+ Fan caught her wrist in place. "The food is all yours."
"I don't want it. Let go." She retorted coldly while attempting to free her wrist vigorously.
s.h.i.+ Fan Hai exhaled sharply, stood up, and with one swift movement, scooped Kang Sola upside down by the waist, then slung her across his right shoulder. He held her in place with his arm around her waist.
"Hey! Hey! Put me down! Oppa! Fengyu- Oppa!"
She wriggled and thumped her fists on his back, and thrashed her legs forcefully. Yet, her efforts did not bear the desired fruit.
"So much for being so stubborn and mean when I'm being kind to you." With one arm clasping the thras.h.i.+ng Kang Sola in place on her right shoulder, and with his left hand carrying the box of fried chicken, he marched towards the guest room just around the corner, near his kitchen.
His strides were relaxed, balanced, and unperturbed by the force that the thras.h.i.+ng girl exerted on him.
When he reached the bedroom, he threw her on the bed, then placed the fried chicken on the side table. "Stay here tonight. Eat the G.o.dd.a.m.n chicken. It's not poisoned or anything of the sort. I'll bring you some water."
Kang Sola ran after him, but the bedroom door closed at her face. She banged it with all her might, but it simply would not budge.
"Open the door!"
BLAG! BLAG! BLAG!
"Oppa! Fengyu-Oppa! Open the door, please!!"
A few minutes later, the door opened with a click. She rushed onto it from the bed hurriedly. Before she could get out of the room, the door closed again. s.h.i.+ Fan Hai opened the door just to deliver two half-liter bottles of water. He placed it on the ground.
Kang Sola squatted beside the locked door, leaned her back on it, hugged her knees, and then buried her face on her arms.
