He disembarked from his car in front of his house's gigantic metal gates. "I thought I had been clear the last time. What are you doing here …Sola?" He pinched his nose bridge in an attempt to simmer down his pent up rage from earlier.
Kang Sola sprung to her feet from being seated on the street's gutter as she discerned the headlights of her brother's car even from afar.
"Yes. I'm here again." She scowled at him. They were in an intense staring contest. Both were glaring at each other, unyielding.
'This kid!' s.h.i.+ Fan Hai's flames of anger flared across his body and outward.
Yet, this brave girl returned the favor. Her cheeks turned purple in her own fury. She felt her head throbbing from all the crying earlier that day. She felt extremely exhausted from receiving the fatal bombs his other brother, Chen Linyun, had thrown and exploded at her face. She felt weak from knowing that her more favored brother had unsuspectingly been vicious to other people who are equally important to her.
Her Fengyu-Oppa? He did all of those evil deeds?
She couldn't believe it. If it were not for the realistic voice recording, she wouldn't have thought that it could be possible for him to do such crimes.
Kang Sola glowered at s.h.i.+ Fan Hai with eyes sharp as razors and knives.
Five seconds.
Ten seconds.
And then.
The devil chuckled darkly. "Hahahahaha!"
"You amuse me. I wonder who you take after." He uttered as he approached her slowly. He extended his right arm slowly towards her head.
Kang Sola's eyes twitched a bit, yet she stood her ground.
s.h.i.+ Fan Hai ruffled her hair. "HEY!!!!" Kang Sola exploded and slapped his arm away.
The man laughed even deeper and darker. Kang Sola didn't seem perturbed at all. "I guess you heard something interesting… Am I right?" Taunting, and in a form of defense, he braced himself against this wee young girl so brazen to confront him late in the night. He wore his gaudy lopsided grin on his face, yet his eyes were left guarded and cautious around this girl.
"Suppose that it's the case… Will you deny it?" Kang Sola warily asked. Her fury mellowed a tad.
s.h.i.+ Fan Hai shrugged his shoulders. "Whether I deny it or agree to it, whatever you're talking about, does it matter? You seem to believe it anyway. Suit yourself."
Kang Sola growled, her rage intensifying even more. "Oppa!!!" She screamed. Her face got swollen red as if it will burst at any moment. However, it did not happen. Instead, hot tears flowed from her already puffed eyes.
s.h.i.+ Fan Hai sighed helplessly, immensely annoyed. He tugged her elbow and guided her into the car, then drove the car into the premises of his house. The girl sobbed at the pa.s.senger's seat, her rage climaxing. Her fists that were balled tightly trembled with force, and as she tightened it even more and put more force on her hands, the more tears flowed out of her eyes. She wanted to scream from the bottom of her lungs and pull her hair out from the calp of her throbbing head. She thought she's literally going crazy.
Once done parking, s.h.i.+ Fan Hai disembarked form the car, went towards the pa.s.senger seat, then, just like before, tugged her elbow, this time, guiding her out of the car. He tugged her towards the house, not forcefully though. Then he threw her onto the sofa.
"Now, speak. I told you clearly not to go back here. And I am certain last time you were here, I asked you if you wanted to know the truth and you refused. Sooner or later you would know about it anyway."
"So… are you admitting to… to…"
"Did you? Guangxi…"
"The cruise s.h.i.+p…"
s.h.i.+ Fan Hai's face had never been so distorted in the history of his existence.
"Do you hate me now, huh?"
"Do you admit to it, Oppa?!" Screeching, Kang Sola repeated her question. "OPPA!!!!"
"YES!!! OKAY??!!! SATISFIED NOW???" s.h.i.+ Fan Hai roared back. He leaned forward, and under the spell of his anger, he had pushed Kang Sola a bit forcefully on her shoulders against the couch. But, he released the frightened girl urgently afterward. The girl was left frozen with wide, popping eyes.
When she was able to finally recover, she muttered in an almost inaudible voice, "But… you were so kind to me… You protected me from those who were picking on me when I was a lot younger. You… You stood by me when all the other kids bullied me and made fun of me for not having parents…"
"Those kids… when I brought up your name, they would run with their knees wobbling with fear. Eventually, no one tried to bully me ever again…"
"You were my savior. All these years… I was able to live peacefully. Just by bringing up your name, even if you weren't there, the other kids left me alone. I was so grateful to you."
"But… you… why… how… I cannot understand, Oppa."
"You've turned into a bully yourself… Why?"
"I did not plan this to happen. It just happened." He growled in response. He felt frustrated for reaching this point.
"That's why you should stay away from me. Keep yourself safe and warm under Chen Linyun's protection, and stay away from me. Don't get involved with me or Father. We are bad people, Sola. Keep yourself out of this mess."
"Father made me live as s.h.i.+ Fan Hai to be able to tap your mother's riches, to penetrate the wealth she left behind for her children. He was frustrated because your mother did not leave anything behind for him. Your brother was lost and was thought of as dead. You were taken away by your maternal relatives. Father was desperate to tap that wealth in front of him, which was not made accessible to him."
"You think he would keep me around if I don't have a purpose?"
"I had a personal goal in mind back then. I was young and desperate. I didn't know any better, so I made an agreement with Father. I was tied to him for life. If I had a choice, I wouldn't have done it."
By this time, s.h.i.+ Fan Hai was seated at the adjacent couch. His hands cradled his head. He kept his head bowed down as he relayed and opened up to Kang Sola.
"When we met a few years back, I had known that you were my sister. I could see that you were inclined towards that horrible life which I had led before – a child condemned and abandoned, without a family. But you have a home, and your maternal relatives did a commendable job in raising you up… Except for those filthy little b.a.s.t.a.r.ds at your school who made your everyday life miserable. I had to step in, even if Father instructed me not to appear in front of you."
"I remember I received some good beatings from him when he found out what I did." He chuckled darkly at the recollection.
"Is he.. I mean, Father… Is he truly a bad person? Linyun-ge warned me several times… But you are saying the same… I mean… And you? How about you?" She mumbled listlessly.
"It just happened, Sola. So I advise you to run as far away from me as possible. Don't come back here ever again if you don't want to become like me. I was born unfortunate. Nothing good will come out of my life. But you're not the same. Do you understand? What do people say, who you surround yourself with is who you become." Han Fengyu leaned back on the couch and ma.s.saged his nose bridge up to the portion where his brows furrowed. It baffled him that there seems to be some sort of gentleness and softness inside him. Perhaps, there had always been, but it was buried deep down inside him in filth and resentment and had been forgotten over the years that it exists.
