Chapter 409 Are You Even Human?

Gu Kun saw the little beady eyes barely visible behind the flabby flesh and the triangular nostrils of the beast. “Shit! This beast has an incomparable sense of smell! I almost got killed by one of them last time!”

Giant Salamanders were extremely rare beasts that looked like Chinese giant salamanders. They possessed a sense of smell so sensitive that they could smell and pinpoint even the ashes of a martial artist.

They were too close to it! There was no way they wouldn’t be found. Gu Kun suppressed his voice as low as he could. “I’ll rush out. You guys run. Don’t look back.”

The other three didn’t say anything, nor was there time to do so. Even though they were abandoning someone, at this point, it was better than everyone dying. There must be a survivor!

Just as the Giant Salamander smelled something and faced the direction of the Frost Wolf, a flying knife zipped through the sky like a meteor and buried itself in the eye of the Giant Salamander. The beast’s child-like cry rang out.

“Don’t move! I’ll distract them! Go straight to our destination, I’ll contact you later!” Xiang Ning’s voice blared out from their earpieces and he immediately appeared on the side of the highway. Gu Kun and the rest barely reacted to it.

Xiang Ning released his strength and aura to attract the beasts. Aided by the cries of the Giant Salamander, he was as visible as the moon on a cloudless night. Almost all of the beasts caught sight of him.

A torrent of Fury Points were earned by Xiang Ning as he giggled with joy. The people from the Hydrangea Clan saw this exact scene from a mountain a kilometer away.

“Lan Quan, this guy’s weird. How could he be smiling now?”

“Was he laughing in the face of despair?”

“It’s more like he’s happy now that his teammates aren’t there…”

Lan Quan didn’t know what to say as his teammates discussed it. He admired Xiang Ning, but he didn’t understand him. He was being chased by over a thousand beasts, how could he still be smiling in the face of such danger?

The line between genius and psychopath was truly thin. Xiang Ning may be a genius, but to think that he could become a psychopathic war machine in just a single thought.

“Lan Quan, should we help him?” As the people from the Hydrangea Clan, they had made ample preparations before entering the wilderness. All they needed to do was create some distractions and throw out some bait. That should divert part of the beasts and dramatically raise Xiang Ning’s chance of escape.

“Wait, let’s see what he intends to do.” Lan Quan wanted to help, but he was curious to see what Xiang Ning had plotted. After all, every single beast down there was a Beast General.

Xiang Ning didn’t know that there was someone monitoring him, as his Combat Instinct was busy helping him fight the beasts. Since Lan Quan and the rest held no animosity toward him, they naturally didn’t alert him. He was also busy doing one thing: running!

He had turned tail and ran. He utilized the Peak Mastery Shadowmist Ghost Step and moved at full speed. Any beasts below tier seven would have a hard time chasing him down. Only a few of the beasts that specialized in speed could catch up, such as a tier five Golden Cheetah.

“Shit! How’re you so fast?!” Xiang Ning felt his scalp prickling; it was a warning given by his Combat Instinct. He ducked his head and saw the Golden Cheetah was just above him! He could see its large eyes with his reflection in them.

“Dancing Peacock!” Xiang Ning didn’t even bother to remove the Devourer from its box and directly used it to block the attack. He then twisted the box and pulled the Golden Cheetah down. The beast felt like it had lost control of its body and was forcefully slammed to the ground. The sound of bones breaking was heard as its spine was snapped in two by a protruding rock on the ground. The beast died on the spot.

Lan Quan was shocked. “How’d he do that? How could the Federation have such a technique?!” He had clearly seen the beast’s attack land on the black metal box, yet it was pulled down. The claws were somehow still stuck to the box when it was thrown to the ground and died. Since when was a tier five beast so weak?

To be fair, Xiang Ning didn’t know, either. He was already running when he slammed the beast down and didn’t notice that it had died. By sheer luck, the protruding rock was a meteorite, a very rare ore that could be forged into weapons. Chu Long had a sword made from it, and its hardness was sufficient to slice through the bones of a tier five beast.

After killing a few more beasts, the stronger beasts could no longer sit back and watch.

“Lan Quan, I think we should act now. The tier six beasts are starting to move.”

“No problem. Didn’t he kill three of them in the stampede a few days ago?”

“There were only three of them at that time, but there’s nine of them now! There’s even a few hundred tier five beasts following behind those!”

“Since when were tier six beasts weak? He would be dead!”

“But that isn’t the point!”

Lan Quan ignored them and told the vice-leader of the team to prepare themselves. “Get ready to fire three rounds of explosives. With his speed, he should be able to escape unscathed.”

“Yes, sir!” The vice leader did not say anything more and prepared. Just as the rocket pods were ready to be fired from his exoskeleton, Lan Quan suddenly signaled him to stop.

The vice leader was confused. He then turned and saw why. “What the fuck?”

Xiang Ning had just opened the sixth gate and temporarily increased his cultivation to tier six. His speed was now lightning fast, and even the tier six beasts were left in the dust. Even the beasts were confused. They had just been about to reach him when he suddenly ran faster.

“Lan Quan, are you sure Xiang Ning isn’t a spy of the Seven Deadly Sins? Is he really not a mutant? Or did the Federation create one?”

Lan Quan sighed. His eyes were letting everyone know that they were idiots.

“Lan Quan, what’re you thinking? I don’t like that look in your eyes.”

“Are you implying that we’re idiots?”

“Yes.”

“Wait, are you for real?”

“Maybe.”

The rest of them didn’t know what to say.
