Chapter 347 Again...

“Lord Obsession, we’re ready to fire anytime.”

The fortress was quite a distance away from Marsh City. Obsession, one of the Seven Sorrows that directly served the cult leaders had received their orders.

“Fire. They’ve been dormant for too long. It’s time to remind the world of their existence!”

“But what if Sect Master Fang intervenes?” one of the executives said. They had been given ten tier five mutants for the mission this time. Their individual destructive strength was on par with tier six martial artists. And even a tier six martial artist would be killed if two of the mutants were to work together. It was because of their strength that humanity had survived the dark days during the Great Disaster.

“Don’t worry, Lord Greed is here. This time, not only must we seize the Chaos, but we must also kill Fang Zhenyuan. Let those idiots in Hang City realize how great we are.”

“Sigh, if the siege at Hang City were successful we would’ve obtained at least fifty tier five mutants. By then, we would’ve seized Marsh City even without Lord Greed’s help,” the executive sighed.

The Seven Deadly Sins needed the genes of beasts, the stronger the better. It would be ideal if they could extract the genes from the most valuable part of the beast so that it would meet their criteria.

“Hehe, Lord Obsession, if we succeed in this mission, you’ll obtain many resources. The day you advance to tier seven wouldn’t be far off!”

“That’s enough chit-chat. Remind the mutants to not make light of this mission. There’s many tier five martial artists in Marsh City.”

“I understand, Lord Obsession.”

“Marsh City… to think that there’s a level eight battleship hidden there. What a delightful surprise.”

……

Another explosion rang out on the battlefield. This time, the soldier saw something red flying toward Marsh City. The commander on the third route immediately knew that it was either a missile or a—

His pupils shrank when he realized what it was. “Quick! Shoot it down!”

It was an armored drop pod. It could fit ten people inside and could cover over a hundred kilometers within a single minute. It was mainly used to escape from danger or send in reinforcements. However, it was phased out of use thirty years ago due to the high production cost as a single-use item. It was also not very safe. Due to the materials used for construction, the passengers were usually hurt after the ride.

It was also very common for accidents to happen. As for now, the armored drop pod's main use was to send in mutants, the super warriors born from the fusion of beast and human DNA. Mutants of tier four and above were able to control the transformation of their own will, but the process was often irreversible. It was akin to mixing two solutions with a thin layer of a third solution between them. If the balance was broken, the genes would swiftly fuse together. By then it would be almost impossible to separate them once again.

Humans hadn’t once paused their research on life. Even until now, they hadn’t found out the origin of the Great Disaster. There were some who thought that it was the result of researchers studying and manipulating the mutation of genes. Some of the researchers were still finding the meaning of life even during the darkest days of the Great Disaster.

The ferocious beasts were even worshipped as Gods by the people of the past, because they defied all sense. Their physical bodies were strong and graceful, almost perfect. Their sole imperfection stemmed from the berserk factor in their genes.

Thus, mutants were born in order to combat the beasts. There was no other choice. Humans were still too weak, be it their martial arts or technology. The beasts were slowly driving humans extinct.

Crash!

The cannon managed to deflect the trajectory of the armored drop pod which caused it to crash to the side. They weren’t able to completely stop it. But at least some of the Savage Sand Rats were immediately crushed into mincemeat.

“We shot it down!”

“Good,” the commander replied, but something was amiss. The armored drop pod was very ominous.

Ten seconds later the door opened and ten individuals clothed in dark robes staggered out. The emblem of the Seven Deadly Sins was stitched to their robes.

“Hoh? The martial artists of Marsh City? They can’t even stop the beasts! What a bunch of losers!”

“Urgh… my head’s spinning. Did we crash into a building? Everything’s still swaying.”

“Not sure, but it doesn't sound like we crashed into a building. It was more like we were shot down, instead.”

The armored drop pod was like a metallic island in the middle of a sea of Savage Sand Rats. When the ten mutants walked out, the beasts instinctively retreated as if they were in front of a dangerous beast.

That was one of the special traits of mutants. Unlike Xiang Ning, who had to constantly activate his Disguise to imitate the aura of a beast, the mutants naturally exuded it. They were quite literally beasts in human clothing, a combination of beasts and humans. It was more accurate to describe them as more beast than human.

“Commander! They’re from the Seven Deadly Sins!”

“Shit! Quick! Go and report to our superior that they appeared!”

Every commander had been briefed about the identifying features of the Seven Deadly Sins since they discovered the stampede. There was no doubt that the people in front of them fit the description.

“Heh. It seems that they know who we are. Keep him alive, I want to see how much he knows about us. Let’s see how scary he thinks we are.”

“The mission comes first! Quickly dispose of them and meet up with our other ten brothers! Don’t let them take all the credit.”

They were right. Just as they arrived at the front line, the third wave of beasts arrived at the other routes. If the commanders observed closely enough, they would find other cult members hiding among the beasts.

......

Back on the other side, Xiang Ning was riding Windbreaker with a metal box containing Devourer on his back. He didn’t dare to place the Devourer into his dimensional ring, because it was surviving solely on its connection with him. If the connection were to break now, there was nothing anyone could do to save the sword.

“Stop!” Xiang Ning approached the end of the route and saw five men standing there. He could already hear explosions and the howling of the beasts.

He saw a familiar face and hopped off of his Windbreaker. “Brother-in-law!”

Fang Hao froze.

Fury Points +1

Fang Hao was happy to see how healthy Xiang Ning was, but he suddenly remembered how sick and feeble the brat had looked when he returned from Hang City and felt cheated. So now, hearing that familiar voice, Fang Hao almost pounced on him.

The commander most likely gonna be dead :(
