"Yang Yun," Mingyue called his name and looked up.
Their gaze met. Mingyue's eyes widened with surprise as she did not expect to see him again. "You're Yang Yun?" Mingyue asked.
Yang Yun nodded as he continued to observe the girl. A part of him wished that she had not forgotten about him and was only pretending to punish him for leaving her alone in this world.
However, when Yang Yun looked into her eyes, he knew that Mingyue had really forgotten him. The look on her face, Yang Yun could tell that she was uncomfortable to see him.
Suddenly, his heart felt as if it was stabbed with a knife a thousand times.
"Sit down," Mingyue pointed towards the chair and continued to read the report in her hand. "You're here to remove your cast?"
Yang Yun nodded. "Yes."
Mingyue asked a few things about his injuries. When she was sure that he had no other problem, Mingyue turned to say a few things to her a.s.sistant. The a.s.sistant nodded and pulled out a machine. Mingyue turned it on, and the machine started to buzz.
"Don't worry, this procedure won't hurt at all," Mingyue said when she noticed how Yang Yun had been staring at the machine. "Give me your arm."
Yang Yun obediently held his hand up. Mingyue touched took his palm into her as she examined the cast. At that moment, Yang Yun felt his hands trembled. How many years has he had not held hand with his wife? It seemed that her hand was still as soft as it was years ago.
While Mingyue lowered her gaze as she concentrated on cutting the cast open, Yang Yun took his chance to observe her. His gaze fell on her soft ears, cheek, and then to her neck. He did not pay any attention to the procedure at all. Because they were too close, Yang Yun could smell her fragrance. It felt different, yet familiar.
Yang Yun lifted his right hand to touch Mingyue, but when he thought that his action might scare her, Yang Yun pulled his hand back and tightened his hand into a fist. For the time being, he will have to control himself.
"It's done," Lin Mingyue lifted her head and smiled.
Looking at her dazzling smile, Yang Yun wished that time can be frozen.
"How do you feel?" Lin Mingyue asked. "Try to move your hand around for a bit."
Yang Yun moved his hand and copied her movement. Mingyue told him a few things he should pay attention to, in the end, it was time for him to leave the room.
"Can I talk to you for a while?"
Lin Mingyue glanced at her a.s.sistant and then back at the man before her. She was going to reject him, but when Mingyue saw the look in his eyes, Mingyue turned to his a.s.sistant and said, "give me five minutes."
The a.s.sistant nodded and walked out to give them some s.p.a.ce.
"I-" Yang Yun hesitated. There were a thousand things he wanted to say to Mingyue, but now that he had his chance, Yang Yun found out that he could not tell the things he wanted to say.
How does he tell her that she did not belong to this world? Even if he told her those things, would she believe him? Or would Mingyue think of him as a madman? What if she decided to distance herself and hide away when she could not accept the truth?
Yang Yun took a deep breath. "I'm sorry." In the end, Yang Yun decided to take the safest path. He would let her forget him as long as he could stay around her. As long as he could stay around, he would have the chance to make her remember.
Lin Mingyue was startled by his apologies. "For what?"
"The other day, at your father's birthday banquet," Yang Yun looked at her and forced a smile. "I guess I must have frightened you. It's just that you look like someone I know."
When Mingyue heard his explanation, her heart lightened up. Earlier, she had a hunch that the man was going to say something that she would make her uncomfortable. But what came out of his mouth was something else.
"Your girlfriend?" Lin Mingyue guessed lightened up the mood.

Yang Yun did not answer. However, when Lin Mingyue noticed the way his gaze softened and the faint smile on his lips, her heart felt stuffy and uncomfortable.
"It's alright," Lin Mingyue said to Yang Yun. "I too would like to apologize if I might seem a bit unfriendly on that day. I was tired after work."
Yang Yun stared at her for a long time until he noticed her discomfort. He stood up and smiled. "Then, I will go first. I'll see you around." Yang Yun exited the room and leaned on the wall. His fist sat on the area where his heart is. He felt suffocated.
"Are you alright?" Xue Yi Ming asked. He noticed the way Yang Yun looked and knew that his plan has gone wrong. "She did not believe you?"
"I couldn't say it," Yang Yun admitted.
"Why not?"
"Because I'm a coward," Yang Yun tried to smile. "I was scared that she might distance herself once she heard what I was going to tell her."
Xue Yi Ming patted Yang Yun on his back and led him towards the seat. He could understand Yang Yun's fear. After all, he too had concealed his feeling for years. He was afraid that once the girl knew his heart, then, she would choose to distance herself from him.
"What are you planning to do now?" Xue Yi Ming asked. "You can't tell her, and you won't return before she remembers everything. Then, are you planning to give up?"
"I won't give up on Mingyue," Yang Yun said. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Xue Yi Ming," Yang Yun called out after a long silence. "I have decided. I will stay around and let her remember me."
"What if she cannot remember you?" Xue Yi Ming asked. "The doctor said that it was also possible that she won't remember anything from before."
"Then, I can only stay here with her. She has spent her days alone for six years. I will not leave without her again," Yang Yun said. "Since she has forgotten about me, there is nothing I can do but to win her heart back. Maybe if I stay around by her side for a while, Mingyue will slowly remember."
