Penny wondered at first why they had stopped walking but when Jera stepped towards the wall. Another step forward for her to disappear into it, she gave out a surprised look on her face. The wall that looked like a wall wasn't one but a mirror image like the other walls making one not know that there was a secret pa.s.sage which one could never find.
"Was this built by white witches?" Penny questioned, following the path of Sister Jera to find herself walking in surrounded by walls, "This feels like a maze."
"Indeed. It is a maze. Please make sure to not get lost if you ever come here. There are too many different paths which leads to no exit but a circle that would make it hard for a person to get out. As you are a white witch yourself like us, it should be alright to show you," she saw Sister Jera grin looking back at her.
Once they walked for some distance, Jera pushed another wall which was a wall look-alike door. Stepping inside, Penny noticed various things that were placed in here. From different looking potions to books and then the guns, bullets and other items which could be considered a gift box if Damien were to step in here.
"The white witches, of course, killed themselves for what happened without wanting to be burned by the vampires or humans with the noticeable transformation in their appearance. But before they died they had created this secret chamber to place everything they knew and had. This is where we keep the objects that we don't want others to find or see," Penny was in awe as she took a round by herself in the room. Going through different flasks that had cork stuck at the top of its mouth.
Noticing that there were no labels placed on the bottles, flask and other gla.s.s tubes that had liquids in them, she asked, "How do you know what is what in here?"
"There's a book in here, you will need to read the one hundred and seventy pages, memorizing it to know what each of them contains and are made of. Once you start working with the various elements of liquids, you will know by the color, texture, and smell of what they are."
Wonder how long that would take for her to memorize. Surely, just reading would not help and she would need to work with the potions to know about them.
"But not everyone knows in here what is what. Not even Father Antonio," said sister Jera going to the shelf to pick up a tube that looked red in color, "Not everything has been doc.u.mented. There are also books which are incomplete that makes you wonder why the white witches left half information in here or if they knew only so much."
Penny doubted that was the case. White witches, for what she knew during the first generation of pureblooded vampires were careful creatures. To have built a secret chamber which had not been discovered by the pureblooded vampires at that time and also the councilors, she would say they were being cautious.
She took a look at all the colorful flasks before stepping to look at the two shelves of books built on the wall. Incomplete information?
Penny asked Sister Jera, "Didn't anyone try looking for them?"
"It is hard to do that. Especially with the number of growing hunters and the council that wants to know everything we do which also includes how many times we left the church and where we went and whom we spoke to. It wouldn't be easy to ask for help and where the rest of the information can be found. We have considered the matter to be a lost one," sighed Sister Jera. Putting the gla.s.ses back on her nose, she leaned forward to have a better look at the books.
When Sister Jera's hand moved towards one of the books in the rack, Penny noticed the discoloration on the girls' forearm which had been previously covered by her sleeve that she hadn't noticed earlier. It was the same as Father Antonio. The black patches of scaly skin transformation. The girl took the book out to hand it over to Penny, "This one speaks about the herbs which have not been doc.u.mented in other books. You can use it to create self-healing medicines for yourself."
Taking the book in her hand, she looked at the plain bound parchments, "Thank you," she murmured her thanks. Upon a thought that rose in her mind, she asked, "You said this was a secret chamber. Do the other witches from the other churches come here?"
"Maybe three or four of them. Not many know about it," answered Jera before Penny asked her another question,
"What about the non-white witches?"
"Just one person. It was Mr. Quinn," just like Penny thought, "It was an unfortunate day when he found out about it," the girl smiled nervously. On receiving a questionable look by the lady, the young witch went to answer, "I tripped and fell towards the entrance of this chamber in front of Master Damien as he had appeared out of nowhere shocking me," she had placed her hand on her chest, remembering the day she fell right through the mirage-like wall when the pureblooded vampire had appeared behind her.
Sister Jera was sure that she had heard no sound of footstep to notice him which had startled her in this dark place.
Penny only nodded her head with a smile, knowing Damien had used his ability. She pulled out the pocket watch which she had received from him, looking at the time and wondering if he was here to pick her as it was time to leave.
