“Good then.” Shen Xiu got onto his feet and poured a gla.s.s of water for her. Then he held her hand and said with regret in his tone, “Why is your hand so cold? Are you feeling unwell? Have you had dinner?”

She shook her head and replied, “No, I haven’t.”

“I’ll eat with you, come.”

Holding her hand, Shen Xiu led her to the dinner table in the dining room.

Then he quickly pulled out a chair for her, helped her sit down and served her food, all the while trying to placate her with sweet words.

“Ah Feng, I remember you like chicken soup. Here, drink more of this.”
