They were the Gates of Samsara, where the six gates represented the six different pathways that one would reincarnate into the Heavenly Path, the Human Path, the Asura Path, the h.e.l.l Path, the Animal Path, and the Ghost Path.

From now onward, when souls enter the Underworld, make them go through the Ghastly Checkpoint first, then Naihe Bridge, Homegazer Terrace, and Yinsi Street last so that they can wait for their turn in the Gates of Samsara.
