Chapter 458: I Agree With Tan Mo
Upon seeing that, Tan Mo knew that Professor Yao and Mr. Zhu were adults with substantial social experiences.
They would not wear their hearts on their sleeves regardless of their opinions.
On the other hand, Du Zeyang and Chi Xuanzi were still wet behind the ears. They were not diplomatic like the adults in society.
“Look at the first row, fourth from the right. The girl with a ponytail and glasses,” Chi Xuanzi explained. At the end of the day, it took a girl to describe another girl better.
In a flash, Tan Mo found the person she was looking for.
Lin Jingyuan was seated in a chair staring at the blackboard with her arms crossed, looking like an arrogant prick.
Students from Beijing University and Hua University were competing over her, and she was pleased to see that.
Tan Mo did not ask Professor Yao’s point of view but Mr. Zhu’s because the latter was representing Professor Yue to convince Lin Jingyuan to join the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
“Mr. Zhu, let’s put Professor Yue’s opinion aside and talk about your stance. Do you still want to talk Lin Jingyuan into applying for the Department of Aerospace Engineering?” Tan Mo asked.
At that, Professor Yao turned to peer at them.
Mr. Zhu’s intention was evident as he did not try to hide it.
Naturally, Professor Yao knew about it.
Still, he did not expect that Tan Mo would ask about it unhesitatingly.
“Well, since you asked what I think, I’ll be frank with you that I’m not willing to do that.” Mr. Zhu shook his head and turned to Professor Yao. “Professor Yao, it was never my plan to desensitize you and sneak around your back.”
Professor Yao was rendered speechless.
“This girl is too narcissistic. She requested us to have a match with Hua University the first thing upon her arrival and said she would join the winner.” Mr. Zhu flashed a smile as he looked at Tan Mo. “Speaking of which, back when you were invited by the Six Prestigious Schools, where the five campus presidents herded toward Jixia Academy to see you personally, you didn’t request anything like that from us.”
To put his statement bluntly, who did Lin Jingyuan think she was?
“Her grades weren’t even close to reaching the tier where we need to fight over her yet,” Mr. Zhu asserted.
Du Zeyang added, “For clarification purposes, Chi Xuanzi and I only accepted the challenge because Hua University’s bunch were the ones who proposed it. We just didn’t want to flinch before our rivals. We aren’t doing this for her.”
Chi Xuanzi nodded. “That’s right. I was irked when she said that she would only go to the best university and join the winner. While it’s true that we’re here to win her favor, we’re not beggars. C’mon. Has our university ever lacked top students?”
Was there a student who did not enter the university through the entrance examination?
Every person who was successfully admitted into Beijing University was the top scorer in the entrance examination.
Needless to say, Chi Xuanzi’s and Du Zeyang’s qualifications were comparable to, if not better than, Lin Jingyuan’s.
“Exactly my thoughts.” Tan Mo bowed her head. “Before I came here, Professor Yue entrusted me to scout her out if she has the potential to be a good addition to the Department of Aerospace Engineering.”
Professor Yao was stunned after hearing that.
Although he had figured it out a while ago, he couldn’t help but twitch his eyelids a little after listening to Tan Mo’s upfront declaration.
“Well, after seeing her in person, I no longer wish to invite her. No matter what, we can’t afford to be defeated by Hua University. We have to win this match, and it has nothing to do with her.” As Tan Mo spoke, every representative of Beijing University nodded except Professor Yao.
The latter was at a loss for words.
“I’m not scouting out Lin Jingyuan for Professor Yue anymore. I’ll inform him myself when I return later. Mr. Zhu, don’t worry. I’ll cover for you,” Tan Mo reassured.
Mr. Zhu curled his lips into a smile. “Since Professor Yue entrusted you with this task, that means he has faith in your judgment. I don’t believe he’ll hold you liable either.”
“Once we win this competition, it’s Lin Jingyuan’s choice whether she enrolls in our university or not. It’s her freedom to pick whichever major she likes,” Tan Mo said. “If she happens to pick the Department of Aerospace Engineering, I’ll not recommend her to Professor Yue. If her qualifications stood out among the masses, she would be recognized by Professor Yue and favored by the campus. And that’s her capability. I’ll neither inhibit her, nor am I capable of doing so,” Tan Mo announced in a deep voice.
She turned to glare at Lin Jingyuan, who stayed on the sidelines and added, “I, for one, do not welcome a person like her to our campus.”
“If there’s one thing worth mentioning, we, the students of Beijing University, are united in our hearts. While it might be true that we have conflicts during normal days, we would never embarrass ourselves in front of outsiders. Furthermore, we’re a civilized bunch,” Du Zeyang declared. “I hate the guts of those who cause divisions among people before they have even enrolled at our school and seem to have the delusion that they are VIPs.”
Lin Fuxi was dumbstruck after hearing that as she had been planning to stir things up with Tan Mo.
With that, she began to reconsider if she should do that.
“Well said. Does she think we’re begging her to join us?” Chi Xuanzi was brimming with annoyance. She raised a corner of her lips in disdain and chided, “Were we ever in want of top scorers joining us in the past years?”
“You said it. Even Tan Mo did not do anything like this,” Song Mingqi commented.
He and Wei Haosong did not express their thoughts since Lin Jingyuan’s course selection had nothing to do with them.
Nevertheless, Song Mingqi could not help but let out a remark at that time.
Wei Haosong said, “It’s fine to be snobbish if one has the capability to back themselves up. Even if others felt unhappy, they couldn’t have a say in it since the person in question was eligible to act that way. But her qualifications clearly aren’t enough to let her put on airs in front of us.”
Was there any student at Beijing University who had a poorer qualification than her?
Moreover, Lin Jingyuan was merely the top scorer in Jiaoqi Province.
Although she was among the best in the country, she did not come out on top.
There was a running comment among the crowd for some time, yet Professor Yao remained taciturn.
Therefore, everyone calmed themselves and set their eyes on him.
At the sight of it, Professor Yao became tongue-tied.
“Professor Yao, what is the plan of the Department of Mathematics?” Mr. Sun queried.
Professor Yao glanced at everyone in resignation. “Do you really need me to spell it out?”
The crowd continued to gaze at him.
“I agree with Tan Mo. We should leave her be. With her scores, she’s definitely qualified to enroll herself in both Hua University and our university. If she chooses to enter our campus, there’s no way we can turn her down. As for the course selection, it’ll be up to her entirely. We have plenty of students here in the Department of Mathematics.
“She became completely irrelevant the moment we accepted their challenge from Hua University. We’re just upholding our reputation,” Professor Yao stated. “We can’t possibly quit the competition halfway just so that she won’t join us.”
After a slight pause, Professor Yao continued, “Regardless of the situation, we still have to win this thing. Once we get the victory, we’ll leave without telling Lin Jingyuan the good points about our university.”
“Yeah!” Everyone nodded in excitement. They totally agreed with Professor Yao’s decision.
Upon seeing the lively young bunch before his eyes, Professor Yao let out a laugh.
“Professor Yao, it’s your turn to make the question,” Hua University’s Professor Jiao said as he stood next to the classroom’s window.
Professor Jiao had a grim look on his face after receiving a volley of lambasting from Tan Mo, which made his team and him look bad.
Nonetheless, Chi Xuanzi’s slow calculating speed earlier signified that the efforts of Peng Jiayou and Pang Xinlu to distract the former weren’t wasted after all.
