Those Sweet Times

Chapter 23 Part 1

After Lin Chuyan got off the bus, he saw an old lady selling fresh walnuts

near the Yuanchi campus gate. The old lady sat on a stool and was using

a sharp knife to peel off the green outer layer of the walnut. The light brown

colored walnuts, as usually seen at the grocers, fell into a basket.

There was a special smell in the air.

Lin Chuyan bought one kilo of fresh walnuts.. When he was searching for

cash in his pocket, the old lady pointed to the QR code hanging from the

side of the basket.

He carried the walnuts in a red plastic bag which seemed to be quite mismatched

with his handsome looks.

Xiang Nuan came down wearing a snow white fleece jacket.  She looked like a

plush s...o...b..ll walking over. As she got closer, Lin Chuyan noticed that she

was wearing her backpack.

“You have cla.s.s?” He asked.

“No, just in case I need to study.”

Lin Chuyan felt ‘just in case' was well said.

Xiang Nuan pointed at his plastic bag : “What's in there? Fish?”

“Walnuts, for you.”

“Why did you buy walnuts for me for?”

Of course it was to nourish her brain, he looked at her kindly.

Ignoring Xiang Nuan's puzzlement, he handed over the bag of walnuts to

Xiang Nuan.  Then he lifted the straps of her backpack, it was quite heavy.

“Give your backpack to me.” As Lin Chuyan was speaking, he reached for

her backpack.

“It's alright, it's not heavy.” Xiang Nuan was uneasy about it.

“You still have chance to grow taller.” He seriously said.

Xiang Nuan didn't expect an answer like that. “You have chance to grow taller

too. You're only one year older than me.”

“I'm tall enough.”

Xiang Nuan was speechless again. Sometimes, what Lin Chuyan said was the

truth but the way he said it made people want to hit him. It was probably one of

his special talents……

Finally, he took the backpack off her back and swung it over one shoulder. As

he walked, the little bear hanging from the zipper swayed back and forth, looking

somewhat comical.

Xiang Nuan looked up at the sky, it was such a wonderful day. There was no

clouds at all in the blue sky. The sun was quite warm, the leaves on the trees

had almost all fallen off, and a bird was singing on a branch.

“What shall we do?”  She asked him.

“What do you want to do?”

“Let's go to the coffee shop and play some games.”

Playing games again.

Lin Chuyan felt that Xiang Nuan's addiction to this game was somewhat deep.

As they walked in the coffee shop, they saw Waiwai there. He didn't look well,

sitting at a table by himself, and seemed to be s.p.a.cing out. Xiang Nuan called

out to him: “Waiwai Xuezhang, didn't expect to see you here?”

Waiwai looked over and saw the two of them.  His eyes suddenly turned red

as if he was going to cry?

Xiang Nuan didn't know how to respond.

Waiwai looked quite fragile, like he had suffered a heavy blow of something.

He stood up and stretched open his arms for a hug as if he needed some

comfort badly.

Xiang Nuan had already opened her arms ready to embrace him, but Lin Chuyan,

standing behind her, lifted her collar and moved her aside

Then Waiwai Xuezhang fell into Lin Chuyan's arms.

It was such a beautiful scene.
