Chapter 346: A Satisfactory Answer
Lu Xuan had his reasons as well.
Making ancestral graves of any clan into a place for developing and fostering the dead was something deemed absolutely unforgivable anywhere and in any era. One could even say that doing so would ensure that both parties became sworn enemies.
There was hardly any problem if he wanted to take out his indignation and anguish on them.
Be it in modern society or ancient times, making someone else’s ancestral grave into a place for keeping undead is something that could easily cause a war.
The guilty party was sure to be hunted down by renowned, righteous clans and sects.
Despite the likes of the Maoshan Sect being a cultivation force specializing in keeping undead, they too dared not do something deemed so sacrilegious.
Huaxians’ respect and reverence for their ancestors were even more profound than their treatment of gods. Anyone who dared to desecrate other people’s ancestral graves and do such things with the place would without a doubt make enemies of them.
The only fortunate thing about the whole matter was that those guilty ones had yet to do anything truly unforgivable just yet. Otherwise, there would truly be no turning around with the matter.
Overseas rites of the Maoshan Sect had always been rather insubordinate, to begin with. It became clear that they became bold enough to do something so sacrilegious.
Sha Tongshen shivered at the thought of it all, especially so after finding that those people actually practiced Tame Head curses as well. From what they were able to tell with Lu Zhengqing and his master, what happened would definitely not be an isolated case.
He speculated that the entire overseas rite of the Maoshan Sect had become problematic.
The fact that the sect could go as far as to learn Tame Head curses meant that due to a lack of oversight, the aforementioned overseas rite had become so emboldened that they probably had been doing several things that harmed several people.
They had probably long crossed the line with anything they did.
After all, doing such a thing in Huaxia would have caused many renowned and righteous sects and clans to hunt them down to maintain order.
However, the smaller Southeast Asian countries, which were overrun with people practicing such heretic arts in the first place, had always been rampant with cultivation methods that were deemed brutal and unforgivable.
The overseas rite of the Maoshan Sect had probably harmed countless people.
“We of the Maoshan Sect would definitely give you a satisfactory answer, Mr. Lu.”
Sha Tongshen answered solemnly. While the matter did involve the overseas rite of the sect, those people were nonetheless still members of the Maoshan Sect.
The way those people conducted their business had soiled the arts passed down by their ancestors and brought shame to the Maoshan Sect, making Sha Tongshen eager to clean house.
Lu Xuan said, “That’s good to hear. I shall wait for your answer then.”
“The Maoshan Sect shall not harbor any who are involved in this. I take it that this would be your opportunity to clean house, and retake control of your overseas rite as well, is it not?”
Sha Tongshen chuckled, finding out that Lu Xuan had indeed seen right through him. He then replied, “You’re indeed correct, Mr. Lu.”
“Other than that, we of the Maoshan Sect shall pay reparations of one billion yuan to the Lu Clan for restoring your clan’s ancestral hall as well as to provide other services like scholarships, to show that we of the Maoshan Sect are truly sincere with making amends,” Sha Tongshen said.
The Maoshen Sect was just a religious sacred ground before spirit qi was restored to the world. While it was true that the sect had no lack of funds, they weren’t wealthy either. Taking out one billion yuan was something that could never be easily accomplished before.
However, things were different now. With the restoration of spirit qi, many spells of the sect that were merely tricks to deceive the people became genuine spells. Thus, several people flocked to them to learn their art.
As such, their wealth spiked with the increasing interest. While one billion yuan was still not a small sum to the sect, it was no longer one that they were unable to afford to pay.
Such an amount would be deemed worthwhile, as long as they were able to settle the matter.
Lu Xuan nodded and said, “10 days. You have 10 days to give me that answer.”
“Understood, Mr. Lu. We of the Maoshan Sect will definitely give you a satisfactory answer within 10 days. Please bear with us until then.”
Sha Tongshen felt himself breaking out in cold sweat, being relieved that he somehow managed to settle the problem.
However, he was feeling even more furious deep down. His resentment towards those that he deemed to be traitors who put him in such a predicament grew even more.
A terrifying aura suddenly enveloped the entire village.
“An undead king.”
Lu Xuan’s brow twitched as he felt a terrifying miasmic qi raining down from above, filling the entire village in an instant.
“How dare you lock up the people of the Maoshan Sect!?” An angry voice was heard from above.
“The Maoshan Sect, huh?” Lu Xuan smirked and continued, “So, you people are planning to play tricks behind my back then?”
Sha Tongshen replied frantically, “Impossible! We of the Maoshan Sect are not such people. It’s definitely those traitors!”
Sha Tongshen realized immediately that the boastful voice came from none other than someone of the overseas rite of the Maoshan Sect.
“There is no need for you to do this, Mr. Lu. I’ll take care of him.”
Sha Tongshen cupped his hands and excused himself afterward. He then stomped on the ground, generating a beam of light beneath his feet before he immediately flew into the air.
By then, the people of the entire village were trembling in fear under the pressure emanating from that terrifying undead king. Aside from Lu Xuan, the only other people who managed to remain unaffected were Lu Tiancheng, who was already at Celestial Realm, and Lu Guoguo, who was in Lu Xuan’s arms eating candied fruit.
Lu Guoguo’s powers were every bit comparable to that of Sha Tongshen, for she was already at the Airborne Realm by then.
If they were to actually fight, she might have actually ended up killing Sha Tongshen. Such was the edge provided by born Taoist aptitude.
“Guoguo, stay here and eat your candied fruit. I’ll go up and check things out.”
Lu Xuan put his little sister down before shooting away like a beam of light into the sky.
“Heh, what a brother. Dumping me and going off whenever things happen,” Lu Guoguo snorted. She then generated a beam of light beneath her feet, shooting to the air and chased after her brother.
Meanwhile, the people of the village were all gathered at the plaza near the head of the village, looking at the members of the Maoshan Sect fighting high up in the sky.
One of them was Sha Tongshen. The other was a man wearing similar Taoist robes as well, who looked to be in his seventies or eighties. However, the other man sported a stout build and looked rather aloof, with a malicious aura emanating from him.
By his side stood an undead king dressed in the garb of bygone eras. They both managed to gain an advantage over Sha Tongshen.
“You are of the Maoshan Sect, as well. Why are you getting in my way?”
That old Taoist was able to recognize Sha Tongshen.
While the Maoshan Sect was divided into the mainland rite and the overseas rite, that didn’t necessarily mean that the two rites never communicated with one another. Given that both of them were members of the upper echelon of their respective rites, there was simply no way they would not have known each other.
“Guanglinzi, you son of a b*tch! Do you have any idea just how much trouble you have caused the Maoshan Sect!?”
Sha Tongshen then performed a seal, blasting a bolt of lightning from his palm that sent the undead king charging at him flying.
The undead king shrieked in pain as it reeled back.
Yet, that old Taoist named Guanglinzi swung a blast of sword aura that was tens of meters in length with his blade at Sha Tongshen.
Sha Tongshen evaded again and again while putting up a barrier in front of him, his fury deep within him growing even further.
He knew right there and then that the entire overseas rite of the Maoshan Sect was rotten to the core. Not even an elder of Guanglinzi’s status, who was a being at the Airborne Realm, would have actually practiced the likes of Tame Head curses.
Sha Tongshen dared to say so as he unmistakably sensed that from Guanglinzi.
