Chapter 291: Reinforcement with Devastating Arrows
The news flooded to Lu Xuan from all places before long.
He quickly acquired intelligence that someone assaulted the Special Task Force and that there were even people being seen outside of Zhongnanhai.
That all meant that the operation was far more than just what Lu Xuan saw at the moment.
It also meant that the ones who assaulted the Heavenly Palace were but a handful of those actually involved.
Another group actually assaulted the Special Task Force with the intention of taking out the Dragon, and the assault went all the way outside of Zhongnanhai.
The ones that were disposed of the quickest were the ones assaulting Zhongnanhai, as that was where the Inner Palace was located, which meant that the place was filled with formidable beings.
The Huaxian authorities commanded a greater force than the fighters who were known to all, and a portion of those people was stationed at the Inner Palace.
The invading forces seemed to intimidate the Inner Palace instead of wanting to fight the Inner Palace outright. There were three that approached the Inner Palace, two of whom quickly fled after a Celestial among them was killed.
On Lu Xuan’s side, he simply went on to take out the invading fighters single-handedly.
Things were most intense at the side of the Special Task Force.
According to the intelligence organization serving the Heavenly Palace, the fighting at the Special Task Force was still ongoing.
“All small fry punks with no far sight to speak of.”
Lu Xuan smirked and put the intelligence report down, ordering a helicopter at the Heavenly Palace to send him to the Special Task Force’s headquarters right away.
The Special Task Force and the Heavenly Palace were situated at the southern and the northern ends of the city, respectively, which was a distance that not even a helicopter could swiftly cover.
The fighting was still ongoing when Lu Xuan got there. All manner of terrifying attacks broke out in the sky. The scene was incredibly harrowing.
The capital was not far away, so there was no way they could have deployed heavy military weapons, as that would have shaken the entire nation very quickly.
As such, the cultivators were the ones doing the bulk of the fighting, which the heaviest of weapons employed being the likes of bazookas, with the use of weapons of higher classes being deemed unthinkable.
Even so, the battlefield looked to be in a deadlock with no side gaining an upper-hand over the other.
The invaders that were deemed the most difficult were a bunch of mutated monsters that were mutated due to being tainted with spirit qi in their early stages.
Those beasts were very difficult, and their numbers were staggering. The way they pounced onto their enemies made it look like monsters were overwhelming a fort.
Those monsters, enthralled by some kind of tamer, emerged unceasingly day and night, hitting the external fringes of the Special Task Force. They were then engaging with the reinforcements, so as to hold the human forces back.
Lu Xuan saw everything while standing on the helicopter.
“Looks like the main target of the fighting tonight is the Special Task Force then.” Lu Xuan was grinning. He realized right there and then that with the Heavenly Palace being so newly established, its importance still paled in comparison to the Special Task Force in the eyes of many, despite him being in charge of the former.
The Heavenly Palace was seen to be a place thought best taken out, but the ones assaulting the place would do well holding Lu Xuan back for some time if taking out the place did not seem possible.
However, there was pretty much no one who expected Lu Xuan to be so ferocious that he was able to take out all Celestial Realm beings single-handedly, without even breaking a sweat.
It did not take long for Lu Xuan to spot a humanoid silhouette charging into the midst of the beasts among the flickering lights of the battlefield. The figure held a sword which was lined with sword aura that easily tore through the hide of those mutated beasts, which were harder than steel.
It did not take more than one swing to kill one beast, and the speed at which it was done was frightening.
That figure was none other than Ming Yueyao, whom Lu Xuan had not seen for quite some time.
There was a group of fighters from the Special Task Force tagging along right behind her. All of them were elites, and even the weakest among them were of the National Guardian Level, which made them able to carve a path out of the beasts.
However, they were quickly stopped dead in their tracks. An old Taoist priest dressed in a yellow robe held a sword while manipulating a group of undead to stop the human fighters.
He alone was enough to take on a group.
“Maoshan Taoism!” Ming Yueyao was furious, as she quickly recognized the source of the undead, which were all jiangshi, to be from the Maoshan stream of Taoism known for claiming themselves to be the orthodoxy in Taoism.
None had anticipated the Maoshan Taoists joining in the rebellion as well.
“You Maoshan Taoists are indeed bold. Do you really think no one dares to stand in your way, eh?” Ming Yueyao was very angry, seeing just how bold the Maoshan Taoists had gotten from the fact that they dared to participate in an operation that was tantamount to rebellion.
“The state the world is in today would not allow millions more to train at the same time. The way the government does things is no doubt trying to ruin our foundations, and we simply see fit to fight against that,” the old Taoist priest answered in a cold manner.
The thought of propagation of widespread cultivation among the people to be something that would sever their foundations was the most prevalent mindset among the cultivators. The undertaking would have at least slowed the rate of their cultivation down.
That was why so many forces were joining the fight.
With that Taoist priest joining the fight, Ming Yueyao looked like she ran into a wall. Her progress in the fight was stunted right away. The Taoist priest was far more terrifying than someone as young as Ming Yueyao, after all.
Those people had been persisting back before spirit qi was restored, and the coming era was one where they deemed was their time to shine.
With the exception of the likes of Lu Xuan, any of those old veterans would be able to overwhelm the likes of Ming Yueyao, who were of the younger generation, so long as they were of the same level.
That fact, combined with the use of specifically developed jiangshi, allowed the Taoist priest to hold Ming Yueyao and her men back single-handedly.
The Maoshan Taoist priest even went on to summon lightning with his sword, dealing severe injuries to Ming Yueyao.
That blast hit her squarely, causing her to spew blood as she fell, backing away as she became increasingly surrounded by several jiangshi.
While the undead beings were not of Celestial Realm powers and were at most, at Invincible Vajra level, yet they were nonetheless true Invincible Vajras of steely bones and flesh, who knew no pain and paid no heed to damage sustained.
Even though Ming Yueyao’s attacks were capable of snapping the bones of such beings, she found it difficult to take on so many surrounding her.
“Sh*t!”
Just when she felt that she was no longer able to hold on and about to be overwhelmed, frightening blitzing arrows rained from the sky out of nowhere, which nailed those powerful jiangshi to the ground right then and there.
The jiangshi were nailed down with one arrow each. They, which sported bodies that were capable of resisting incredible amounts of damage, quickly had most of their bodies blasted to pieces, and what remained of them stayed completely still before long.
“Damn it!” The Taoist priest realized the tables were turning almost immediately and intended to flee, yet he was unable to do so before an arrow conjured by Spiritual Qi pierced right through his body almost instantaneously.
Despite being at the Celestial Realm, most of his body was blasted to pieces by that one arrow.
He died before truly realizing what happened.
He was unable to figure out why he was so easily killed, even at his time of death.
He was literally made short work of by a single arrow without any problems.
Ming Yueyao, who was rescued in the nick of time, looked up in the sky and saw a buzzing helicopter. The one who stood from the aircraft was none other than Lu Xuan.
“It’s Mr. Lu. There’s still hope for us!” Ming Yueyao shouted, shocking all the other surrounding fighters from the Special Task Force.
All of them had heard of Lu Xuan’s frightening battle records, and his emergence was no doubt a morale booster like no other to them all.
