73 Thanks?

"Hey, if you want to talk. I'm here" she said in a quiet tone I've never hear here use.

"Thanks?"

It pains me that I could say anything. When all I wanted to was tell the truth but couldn't. She wouldn't understand, they would ever understand.

From behind me, the sounds of little footsteps, I heard her sigh as she follows me in silence. She did not push me like she usually did. The police look busy like there were more incidents or there was something more than I did know of and at this point, I do not care. They had to do the work on their own. After all, I was only qualified as a consultant even if I was off the case.

The walk home was short and dull, not a lot of people this early in the morning. Well, there were joggers but those people with earbuds in the ears don't count.

Arriving home, I decided to make myself breakfast. I was hungry. Lazily, I pull out the lasagna. It was a good quick meal and started to pop in a remembering potion and remembered the tattoo. I then proceed to one of my many books for some sort of help. My aunts kept me informed for the rest of the morning.

By nine I had a rough idea of what we were dealing with and it wasn't pretty. This was a master at work. The spell had been modified three times over and it had conditions.

Taking limitations and turning them into power amplifiers. By making the spell require them, it turns liabilities into a.s.sets, designed to make a person with little magic into a walking crystal but the design has flaws. It was one of those too good to be true and it was in a way. The person doing it doesn't understand the cost. The end would be devastating. I know I've seen it before many time and I know the clock was ticking for the unfortunate person behind this.

My phone beep and there was a text for me from the bank. Telling of the wire transfer I had money to pay my taxes so I don't have to worry about money for a while.

"I can't believe I am doing this" I mumbled.

I really do have to stop talking to myself. I really need a social life with more than just acquaintance but it was hard to find anyone that would understand what I am going through.

Most people would think it's a bad idea to involve the council but I had no choice. It would complicate the situation but if I didn't they would have meddled in the worst moments, this I know from past life experience. I also like to avoid all guardians and deal straight with an elder but that would be asking too much. This was that important just yet.

The call wasn't going to be pleasant even if I didn't do anything wrong. I was no Diana that everyone gravitates and loves. They let her slide with almost everything that she does wrong.
