He felt a little offput. He had to admit, at least to himself, that he rather liked her dragging him around. And that he had gotten used to it. The fact that she hadn't this morning left him feeling a bit at a loss.
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. Zylvia was an enigma to him, one he wanted to figure out. She could be playful, moody, serious, or sweet all in the matter of a few seconds. They would be totally fine one minute and then she would be mad at him with no warning. But he couldn't help but tease her. He got way too much enjoyment from watching her emotions play across her face. She was just so adorable, even when mad.
He shook his head helplessly. While he pretended to be scared of the queen, Zylvia was actually the one who could make him do whatever she wanted. And she had no idea of it. He would probably never tell her either.
Standing up, Kaldrek went in search of his king. He needed to know what all needed done today.
Kaldrek found Jayesh in his study. His best friend was lost in thought with a huge grin on his face. Probably thinking of Fayre. Which was normal but his grin was wider than usual.
When Jayesh finally noticed him, his eyes lit up. He seemed rather excited about something. It didn't take very long for him to find out why, "Fayre's pregnant!"
"Oh, so you're finally going to be a father? Congratulations." Kaldrek grinned, sharing in his friend's excitement. The king and queen had been hoping for children since they had gotten married. Kaldrek was truly glad that they were finally getting their wish.
"Thank you, my friend," Jayesh smirked at him. "So when do I get to congratulate you on fatherhood?"
Kaldrek had known that Jayesh would ask something like this. But he really had no idea how to answer it, "Probably never?"
"Kaldrek!" Jayesh sounded exasperated, "Sometimes I really worry about you. It's okay that you are waiting a bit, but you should at least consider it!"
Kaldrek felt a little helpless and unsure of how to respond-he had been thinking about it, quite a bit actually. And, honestly, the more he thought about it the more he liked the idea of being a father. The thought of Zylvia holding a little one, their little one, was a slightly exciting prospect. But he still felt uncertain and unprepared, "...Alright, fine. Maybe in ten years?"
Jayesh sighed, "But by then, my child will be a lot older, I was kinda hoping they would be able to grow up together."
Kaldrek let out a sigh, he really wished Jayesh would drop it. He had been feeling so content the last few days just cuddling with Zylvia, but he couldn't really tell Jayesh that. It was too private, the only person who might have a right to know was Zylvia.
"Jayesh, please, can you leave it alone? At least for a few weeks? We're still getting used to living with each other." Though Kaldrek had a bit of a suspicion that Zylvia was already used to him(her jumping on him earlier today was a bit of an indication that this might be the case), he was still always a little surprised whenever he woke up next to her.
"Sorry, Kaldrek, it's just that I want you and Zylvia to grow closer and while I understand that you might never feel the same way for Zylvia as I do about Fayre, I want you to try to feel something at least." Jayesh had a worried expression between his eyebrows, "If you don't I'll probably end up feeling guilty."
Kaldrek laughed, "You could have always let me pick who to marry." Despite his complaining, he didn't really feel upset.
"I gave you two years. You didn't even try." Jayesh shook his head at him, "So you have only yourself to blame."
Kaldrek smiled and shook his head. He knew that talking like that would alleviate any guilt that Jayesh was feeling. Jayesh was right, he had given him warnings periodically that if he didn't find someone, Jayesh would pick a bride for him.
Though Jayesh was wrong about one thing. Kaldrek had actually tried, just he always got tonguetied and was unable to say what he wanted to. He was increasingly aware that he was hopeless when it came to relations.h.i.+ps.
Of course he wanted to work on this. But he never could say it quite right. Anytime he even attempted to flirt it came out as more teasing or even just as matter-of-fact. And he did tease all his friends a great deal. As such it didn't really surprise Kaldrek that no-one realized how much he actually liked Zylvia. Though he hoped that his actions towards her might clue her in at some point.
