As he walked, he felt Zylvia s.h.i.+ft in his arms, so that she was leaning more fully on him. A bit startled his eyes flicked downward for a brief second. Then, he hugged her closer, so that he would not accidentally drop her.
Kaldrek found himself realizing that Zylvia was actually much lighter than she looked. He had a feeling that he should probably never mention this to her as she would probably take him the wrong way again. At least she tended to move on fairly quickly when it happened.
When he arrived at their room, he tucked Zylvia into the bed. Because some of her hair was falling in her face he removed her ribbon and then stroked her hair out of her face.
Kaldrek stared down at her, his hand resting beside her head. She really did look so innocent when she was sleeping. He felt his lips curl into a smile as he watched her.
She s.h.i.+fted slightly in her sleep and her brow furrowed. Kaldrek leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead to smooth it out. "Sweet dreams, Zylv," he murmured softly.
He walked over to his bookshelf and removed a book from the shelf. He was not actually feeling particularly sleepy and the thought of reading made a grin come to his face.
The book he had chosen was an old friend, a fairy tale about an orphan who became a legendary hero. It had been his father's and he could vaguely remember his father reading it to him. From what little he remembered of his father he had been an idealist as well as a bookworm.
Taking the book, he slipped into bed beside of Zylvia. He noticed that she had rolled onto her side and that her face was once again covered by her hair. Smiling he pushed it back from her face again. Once being certain that she was comfortable, he let himself get caught up in his book.
He had not been reading that long when he felt something press up against his side. Zylvia had moved in her sleep towards him and her hands had wrapped around his arm. She was still slumbering peaceably and probably had no idea that she had started cuddling. Kaldrek let out a sigh and then managed to get her to let go of his arm which he then wrapped around her shoulders. She snuggled up against him, which he could not help but find adorable. It reminded him of a baby animal seeking for warmth.
He wondered idly if she would be okay with that comparison or of it would make her blow up at him. Sometimes he had no idea how she was going to act about any given thing. He often times, if he wasn't apprehensive about it, looked forward to seeing how she would react.
He went back to reading. He read quite a few chapters before he started feeling sleepy, He set the book aside albeit a bit reluctantly, setting it by the bed.
He kissed Zylvia's forehead again as he settled down into bed. He snuggled down into his blankets and ran his fingers through his wife's hair. As he got completely comfortable he murmured some arcane words that made the light source of the room darken till they barely glowed. He surrendered himself to sleep and to any dreams that came with it.
