She poked her head outside her door, and looked at Asrar's door, and hollered for him. She was careful to not sound like she was in danger as she knew he would overreact. Then she proceeded to pull off the letter, or as she soon realized three letters. Two had her name scrawled on them, and the other had Asrar's.
"Didst thou need something, princess?" Hearing her beloved knight's voice Hazel gave him a bright sunny look.
Then she frowned as she realized what he had called her, "C'mon, As. Can't you call me by my name?"
He stepped towards her, and encircled her in his arms, pulling her into a gentle hug, "I dost not call you princess because of your t.i.tle… I call you that because I want to. You're my princess."
Hazel smiled and shook her head at him, "Brother sent us letters." Pulling away from him she picked back up the letters and handed Asrar's his.
Sitting down on her bed she looked at her two letters and opened the one that had her brother's handwriting.
"Dearest Sister,
I am sorry that it took me this long to write back to you, but it has been rather busy here at home. Home is not the same without you.
They had my coronation yesterday, as father is weakened dreadfully from the attempt on his life. He is fine though, but he misses you.
If you have not heard the Queen of Lumna decided to lead a party against the people who attempted to kill father. I gave her two of our knights, the twins.
I am glad to hear that Asrar has loosened up some. I've been worried about him for years. Keep working on him, my dear Hazel, and I am sure you will be able to smooth him out.
Now, my dear sister I am going to go on a bit of a personal rant. Your mentioning of 'future sister-in-law' in your letter has caused me no small amount of grief. Elswyth was reading over my
shoulder and has been teasing me ever since.
No, we are not in a relations.h.i.+p, and I doubt that we ever will be in one. Though, I suppose, if she did not hate n.o.bles, especially royals, so much, she might make a good queen. Honestly, I had not even thought of it, I am way too caught up in my little sister's love affairs to even think of my own. I know someday I will have to marry, but as of right now I hardly care all that much. I am only seventeen, you know.
Anyway, Elswyth and father do not get along. She is rather outspoken and as I mentioned has a deep seated hatred of royals. Though she has complemented me saying that I 'aint as bad as some.' It's a long story on how we became friends. Too long for a letter.
I really do miss you, though I am glad to hear that you like Carendlus. It is probably a lot more relaxing than Jarenkul was. The news of the queen being pregnant is exciting, Amriel should probably start preparing a gift for the little royal child.
When you come home, Amriel may be different than you remember. I may be a rather destructive king. Ah, well, just hope I don't destroy anything important.

Always,
Your Brother Heron.
Ps. I love you. Elswyth decided she wanted to write a letter to you as well. Seeing as Sun is hers, there was no way I could stop her so I just let her do as she pleased."
Hazel smiled as she shook her head at her elder brother. She reached for the other letter. It was filled with blots and mistakes, but read much like this:
"Hazel,
I have not ever met you, but it feels like I've known you forever. Heron talks about you and Asrar often.
From your brother's adoring speeches on just how great you are I a.s.sume that I might actually like you, despite the whole princess thing.
Anyway, the reason I am writing is because of what you wrote in your letter to Heron.
You should have seen his face! I've been teasing him ever since, even though I am sure he never thought about me like that at all. I should really thank you though, that letter seems to have woken him up a bit.
I aint shy. I will feely admit to you, that I am pursuing your brother. Why I would have feelings for a prince is beyond me, but Heron is quite the character. I am convinced that he will achieve his goals, impossible though they may be.
Your future sister-in-law,
Elswyth
Ps. I hope I did not make you feel uncomfortable with this. I just want to befriend you."
Hazel burst into laughter as soon as she finished reading the letter. She decided that Elswyth was a gem and pulled out two sheets of paper to write back to the two.
"Brother,
I miss you too. And I know that there is no way you would ever ruin Amriel.
Are you absolutely sure there is nothing going on between you and Elswyth. What a pity! I rather liked her from her letter.
Stop messing around with my love life, brother. If you have dared arrange a marriage with me to some baron I will not be pleased. Nor will I save you face, but will run away.
That being said, I really really do miss you. I hate the fact that I could not see you before leaving. Why could father not wait a few days until you came back at least. I mean would it have really hurt anything?
Your adorable sister,
Hazel."
"To my future sister-in-law,
Yes. Do please make my brother fall for you. Make him fall hard. And make him happy.
Thank you for the letter, Elswyth. I can't wait to meet you. You sound so interesting. I would love to start a correspondence with you and if you would like I can give you information on my dear brother. I would love to be friends with you.
Sun is beautiful by the way.
Hazel."
She grinned to herself as she tied it to Sun's legs. "Asrar do you have anything to write to brother?"
He folded up his letter and stuck it in his pocket. He quickly wrote a reply and handed it to her.
"What did he write to you?"
"It's personal." Asrar leaned down and snuck a kiss from her, "You need to get dressed properly. I'll see you in a few minutes."
With that he left her room, shutting the door gently behind of him. Hazel let the hawk back out with its new letters and then proceeded to get dressed for the day.
