Chapter 1413: Parents-in-Law

It was clear from He Xiyan’s frown that she was in a bad mood.

Jiang Cheng immediately smiled politely at her.

“Sure, Auntie,” he said with a smile.

——

A black Audi drove into the Ye family castle in the evening and a middle-aged couple stepped out of the car.

The middle-aged man was Jiang Cheng’s father, Jiang Zhentao. He might be in his fifties but he looked like he was only in his forties. His sharp suit and leather shoes gave him an air of maturity and made him look like a perfect gentleman.

The middle-aged woman was w.a.n.g Min and she was Jiang Chen’s mother. She had a pair of beautiful almond-shaped eyes.

They walked past the gates of the Ye family castle arm in arm carrying a bag of presents each in their hands.

They had been smiling widely since they got off the car and the way they were acting made it seem like they were here to attend a dinner function.

Ye Hao was still not home, so He Xiyan and her daughter Ye Zixi greeted the visitors.

He Xiyan went downstairs and she frowned the moment she saw this middle-aged couple but she couldn’t explain why she had frowned.

w.a.n.g Min walked over and greeted her enthusiastically when she spotted her walking down the spiral staircase.

“h.e.l.lo, you must be the in-laws. I’m really sorry for only dropping by now. We really should have paid you a visit earlier,” w.a.n.g Min said with a smile and He Xiyan’s skin crawled when she heard w.a.n.g Min’s voice.

Her eyes widened and paid no heed to social niceties as she looked at this middle-aged woman who seemed to be around her age a.s.sessingly.

She felt very ill at ease when she heard w.a.n.g Min address her at the ‘in-laws’.

Her daughter was only dating Jiang Cheng and they were not even married yet, so why was she addressing her as ‘in-laws’?

He Xiyan’s lips curved into an awkward smile as she greeted w.a.n.g Min.

“h.e.l.lo, you must be Jiang Cheng’s mother,” she said politely.

Jiang Cheng’s father Jiang Zhendong walked over as well and greeted her with a wide smile. “h.e.l.lo, Mrs. Ye.”

He was a little more perceptive and did not address her as an ‘in-law’ to avoid making things awkward for the both of them.

“h.e.l.lo…” she said as she shook both their hands and invited them to the living room downstairs.

The maids had already prepared some snacks and fruits for the visitors.

w.a.n.g Min took Xi Xi’s hand in hers and walked behind He Xiyan. She seemed so excited that Xi Xi might as well be her biological daughter.

“Xi Xi…” w.a.n.g Min said excitedly and her face was flushed red.

“How do you feel? Are you feeling alright?” she asked anxiously as she looked at Xi Xi’s flat belly.

Her grandchild was growing inside Xi Xi’s belly.

She was so excited at the thought that she couldn’t sleep.

Xi Xi smiled politely as though she wasn’t comfortable being on such friendly terms with strangers and she pulled her hand away.

“Auntie, I’m feeling fine,” she said.

w.a.n.g Min beamed widely as she sidled up to Xi Xi and whispered, “Don’t worry, Xi Xi. I’ll go over to care for you as your belly grows bigger. Let me know what you’d like to eat and I’d cook anything you’d like to eat.”

Xi Xi didn’t know how to react and she didn’t know how to dampen Jiang Cheng’s mother’s enthusiasm.

She didn’t want to live with her parents because she enjoyed her freedom.

“Oh yes, is your father around?” w.a.n.g Min asked when she realized that Ye Hao wasn’t in the room. Mr. Ye should have been at home since they had given advance notice of their visit this evening.
