"It's not going well."
Snow let out a shaky breath. Tears was on the brink of her eyes.
"The details." Nate snapped. He stood up to be the same height as the doctor, while Snow stayed seated.
"Yuna is in a very bad condition. Her burn marks are severe, but there is something that we found on her skin. The tests shows that it looks like a barrier of some sort."
Snow's head snapped up.
"If it's a barrier, why didn't it protect her?" Snow voiced her thoughts.
"It did, because if it weren't for that barrier, she would certainly be dead now. Yes, she still got hurt, but it still saved her life, in some ways. It bought her more time."
"What!? What do you mean with it bought her more time?" Nate asked. Snow also stood up, her hands were shaking so badly that Nate had to take her hand to try and steady it.
"I know it may seem hard for you, but there is still a chance that she'll survive."
"Survive what?" Snow asked softly.
"The coma." The doctor said looking away.
Snow breathed in sharply, and a tear slowly slid down her cheek.
"How serious is the coma?" Nate asked.
"Its like any other coma, it can take years to wake up from."
"I don't care, what's the chance of survival? You said there is still a chance, so what is it?" Nate snapped. He is trying to remain calm for Snow's part, but his temper is running low. Part of the reason is because of the lack of sleep. They've been sitting here for over five hours.
"fifteen percent." The doctor answered.
Snow gasped and her knees gave in. Luckily, because Nate held her hand, he could easily catch her before she could fall. He gently held her in his arms before he set her down on the chair. Nate stood up again. Tears were streaming down Snow's face, one could see she was desperately trying not to cry, but the pain must've been too much for her.
"How is that even a chance of survival!? That is nothing, Yuna might as well be dead!" Nate yelled.
"Yes I know, but it's better than nothing." The doctor said, trying to calm Nate down.
"Are you kidding me? Fifteen percent is hardly something." Nate scoffed.
"I know, but maybe with the barrier around her, the chances might increase."
"Really? And how is that?" Nate snickered.
"It's magic and power, it could mean anything." The doctor said, it seems that he is getting irritated at Nate.
"Right, yeah, that'll definitely help her." Nate deadpanned.
The doctor wanted to say something about his comment, but Snow interrupted him.
"Isn't there anything you can do?"
The doctors eyes softened a little.
"We are doing the best we can, but it's still early to see if it's helping her in any way."
Snow only nodded.
"Why don't you go home and rest, you've been here a long time. We'll call you if there is any changes." The doctor said before turning away, not waiting for an answer.
Snow hugged herself, while deep in her thoughts. Once in a while a tear would escape from her eyes, running down her face.
Nate went to sit down next to her. He had put his arm around her shoulders, trying to comfort her.
Snow leaned in with Nate's touch and rested her head against his chest. She knew no one could prevent what had happend, but she still feels guilty. She wondered what would have happend if she called on her powers in time. Would Yuna be safe? Would she be out of harms way?
Snow sighed, its pointless to think about things that would never happen. She knows that all she can do is hope and pray that she'll wake up, no matter the odds.
"We have to go." Nate said quietly, while rubbing her hair gently.
He never would imagine in a million years that he would be here, in a hospital, comforting a girl.
Nate pulled away, clearing his throat. He didn't like the way she makes him do things out of the ordinary.
Snow understood why he pulled away. He doesn't usually do this, Snow was quite surprised when he comforted her, he didn't seem like the type to do so anyway.
Snow stood up, she knew he was right, she can't sleep here, nor do she want to. She thought about when she woke up, she still can't believe she fell asleep on Nate's shoulder, or that he left her there. But then again, he would do something like that, that's the type of man that he is.
Snow heard hurried footsteps, when she turned around, her friends came walking down the hall hurriedly.
When they saw her, they rushed their way over.
"I'm so sorry we only arrived at this time, we only heard about it a couple of hours ago, and then we had to wait for the carriage to arrive, and with all the debrise in the road, it took us a while to get here, but we came as soon as we heard." Cynthea explained.
"Only a couple of hours ago? We have waited longer than that." Nate said, lifting his brow.
"What do you mean? Noctis said you left just before we did?" Thea said, confused, she looked between Snow and Nate.
"But he did not tell us you left with someone else, Snow." Fay said, voicing everyone's thoughts.
Nate only shrugged.
"Noctis had stuff some stuff to do, so Nate came in his place." Snow explained.
"The doctor was here." Nate said, drawing everyone's attention.
"What...what did he say?" Cinthea carefully asked.
Snow looked away, not meeting their eyes. She could feel the tears appearing again.
"She's in a coma." Nate simply said.
"Nate!" Snow gasped, she can't believe he would put it so mildly.
The rest looked at him with wide eyes, neither of them saying anything.
"What? If that boyfriend of yours didn't hold them up, they would have been here to hear it themselves." Nate shot back.
"He isn't my boyfriend." Snow snapped.
"Could've fooled me."
Snow only rolled her eyes at his comment, when she looked at her friends, they s.h.i.+fted uncomfortably from one foot to the other.
"We should go, it wouldn't help staying here. You can stay at the palace, I'm sure Noctis wouldn't mind." Snow said.
"Yeah, just until he holds them up again for a couple of hours." Nate snickered.
"Goodbye Nate." Snow said ignoring his comment while walking away, but she couldn't stop the smile that appeared on her face, soon after. Even though it was a sad, tired smile, it was still a smile.
Her friends followed her, they also smiled, but it didn't meet their eyes. Snow felt for them, she really did, but she couldn't help but wonder why Noctis told them only a few hours ago, and not immediately when she left, and why say that she left the same time they did, when she didn't.
Then Snow thought of something, he said he would be there shortly, but he wasn't, so where was he then?
