At the Fire Palace, Yang was scolded harshly by his parents and ordered to stay the rest of the days in their library. Since he never had the patience to study, he lacked major education in everything. Thus they gave an ultimate command to the subordinates.
Without learning something new and useful about the mortals' living, he would be denied meals, much to Yang's displeasure. He loved food above anything else and therefore frantically searched for information.
To entice him further, Ember even ate his favorite roasted duck with honey and syrup in front of her son. The lovely smell and wonderful sight caused his stomach to growl uncontrollably, while he cleared every shelf in desperate search for his tickets to meals.
While in the Ice Realm, Ying's parents tried to impart as much as they knew about the Mortal Realm to Ying. She was offered the best food available, because the upcoming future would most likely be tough.
When three days had pa.s.sed, Ying and Yang gathered with their parents in front of the Portal of Trials at the Celestial Palace. The portal was huge and changed its colour constantly. One second it was blue and in another second it was purple, causing the young G.o.ds to be in awe.
The representative for the Celestial Emperor was Flash, who had the responsibility to set them off.
"As per his Majesty's order, I shall now introduce Fire G.o.d Yang and Ice G.o.d Ying to the mortal trial. Considering the young G.o.ds' age, the Celestial Emperor has allowed you to retain your memories. Though, you will have a mortal body and thus be unable to do magic."
Flash pulled out two silver necklaces from his long sleeve and handed them over to the partic.i.p.ants.
"These are infused with Tracking Magic, which will allow us to ensure your exact positions."
"Why do we need these, Mr Flash?" Yang asked curiously while attaching it around his neck.
"Your task will be to make it out of the Forgotten Desert. When you have completed your objective, we will be alerted by these jewelries."
"The Forgotten Desert?!"
Magma couldn't help but exclaim. Like the other parents, he was surprised over the chosen location. The place was desolated from civilization. No mortals chose to live there, because of the harsh conditions.
During the days the sun was blazing hot, while the nights were colder than ice. With this wide range of temperature changes, it was no wonder that it was left uninhabited. Furthermore, other dangers also existed in that place. To be sent there equaled to be sent to a torture chamber. Maybe that would even have been more merciful.
"This was his Majesty's given sentence and it is final."
With these words, the G.o.ds had no way of refuting and could only accept their cruel fate.
