“This year's compet.i.tion is no different from other years. Everyone will play against the opponent a.s.signed to them. Every compet.i.tion will last âm hour max. Whoever is leading at that point will move on.”
“Because our venue can only fit 100 boards, we will go by the numbers you got when you signed in.”
“Now, please, number 1 – 200, come up and start your game!”
Yang Lianfeng signed everyone up together with the first person being 195. Qiao Qing was number 201, so she didn't get to play this round.
When Lin Xiyan found out who she would be competing against, she looked at Yang Lianfeng with much difficulty, “Teacher, I really don't know how to play.”
Yang Lianfeng had a face like – don't lie to me, I don't believe you, “If you don't know how, then just treat like it's a game. You have nothing to lose.”
Lin Xiyan was speechless
After exchanging a glance with Qiao Qing, Lin Xiyan went up forcefully.
After an hour, those who competed from cla.s.s 22 all came back, looking relaxed. Only Lin Xiyan came to Yang Lianfeng with a frown, “Teacher, I lost.”
Yang Lianfeng was a little stunned. He turned to look at Qiao Qing.
Was he wrong? These two actually didn't know how to play Go?
Just as he thought about it, he heard loud voices up front.
It appeared that three of the boys who partic.i.p.ated in the first round went up the podium and started shouting, “We want to change the rules of this compet.i.tion.”
The organizer of the compet.i.tion looked up, “What's wrong?”
The leader of the pack gave them a glare, “What?”
The leader said, “There are so many people here. If we play 1v1, how long is this going to take? Plus, playing against the weak is a waste of time.”
“Time is precious for those in third year of high school. Every second matters. You don't want this compet.i.tion to go on for days, do you?”
The organizer glanced around and then nodded, “So, what do you propose?”
The boy's lips curled up, “Why don't we play it challenger style? The three of us will be the guards of the seats. If anyone thinks they're better to us, they can challenge us. If they win, they qualify to fight for the top 3 spots. What do you say?”
Because the mic was on right now, not only did the organizer hear what the boy had said, everyone else heard as well.
Someone said in dissatisfaction, “Why do you three get to guard the seats? Are you good at Go?”
“Exactly. There are so many good students in the high schools in the City of Brisk. But I've never seen the three of you.”
The boy turned around and arrogantly responded, “Who said only third year high school students from the City of Brisk can partic.i.p.ate?”
He then flipped open his student ID, “I'm a first year UCC student and also the president of the Go club at the UCC!”
“Beside me is the vice president and the best Go player of our club. You ask why we deserve to guard the seats? Don't the three of us have the right?”
Everyone else was stunned by this and didn't dare to say anything else.
The man smiled haughtily and looked over to the organizer, “What do you say?”
The organizer thought about it and then nodded.
Immediately, the boys grew extremely c.o.c.ky. Turning around, they announced, “The ranking of our abilities are as follows, me, Luo Jianhao, is number one. The vice president Dong Rui is second best. Zhang Liang is below us.”
“You guys come up and challenge us. Only when you win against Zhang Liang, do you gain the right to play against Dong Rui and I.”
“You better only come up if you have some capability. Don't come up to us if you don't know anything. Not only will it waste our time, it'll also be embarra.s.sing for you.”
His words caused the entire place to go silent.
The organizer frowned as well. He didn't like these arrogant people but he couldn't take back his words.
Plus, he wanted to see if the City of Brisk had anyone good enough to stand up against these guys.
