"You must have been, since the pastor had to ask a couple of his questions to youtwice."
"Oh, no." She covered her face with her hands. "And I didn't want to do anythingto embarrass you. At least I didn't trip over the gown and fall down coming downthe aisle!"
"You could never embarrass me, Jodie. I find you delightful, besides being thelove of my life."
By now they were surrounded by well-wishers. After greeting several people, Deanand Jodie hurried outside and got into the limo waiting to take them to the largehotel where the reception would be held.
They settled into their seats, and Dean reached inside his coat pocket and pulledout a small, long and narrow box. "I want to give you your bride's gift before weget to the reception."
A necklace. He'd bought her a necklace. "Oh, Dean, what a thoughtful gift."He lifted one eyebrow. "Aren't you going to open it?" he asked."Oh! I'm sure I'll love it," she said and lifted the lid. There was no necklace. Only a folded envelope and a key.Bewildered, Jodie looked at him. He smiled. She opened the envelope and found a note and two airline tickets to Hawaii. "Oh, we're going back to Hawaii!""Why not? That's where I really got to know you. This time we'll stay as long asyou like."She unfolded the note and read. "No, this isn't the key to my heart because you already have it in your safekeeping. This is a key to your new home.""My home? What have you done?""Conspired behind your back. I got Lynette to go house hunting with me to find a home she thought you might like. Of course, if you don't like it, I can always-"She threw herself into his arms and kissed him all over his face, his ears, hisjaw and his mouth. "You are the most high-handed man I've ever known," she finallysaid, laughing with delight. "You bought me a house without consulting me?" Shelooked at him with mock disapproval, his face cupped in her hands."Actually I haven't bought it yet. I waited to sign the contract until you have achance to see it. The Realtor gave me the key, and I thought we could go over thereafter we leave the reception. If you approve of it, I'll sign the papers before weleave."So maybe a man could change a little. She was touched that he was trying. "I canhardly wait to see what you've picked out for us."She knew that she would love the house because Lynette knew her so well. She wouldlove it even more because Dean had chosen to surprise her with it.One thing she knew for certain: there would never be a dull moment being married to Dean Logan.
