Chapter 921: The Merfolk King

King Urther finally stared at Rowena further and couldn't help but feel an ache in his chest.

Her beautiful golden hair and amethyst eyes, her appearance showed incredible beauty, but that was not what drew him in.

She looked incredibly like someone he had known in the past.

"Water Guard... why are you treating this half-elf with so much harshness?" King Urther frowned at the shark Merman and immediately swam towards her. "Tell me, young one, from what elven nation do you hail from?"

"I... I've lived my whole life in the human realm, Your Majesty," Rowena said as hope suddenly surged in her chest.

"I see. Well, the human realm is not bad," King Urther approached and smiled kindly. "What brings you here to the Merfolks realm? Not many find portals to my realm."

While the other Merfolks Rowena encountered were unreasonable, this king seemed wise and might listen to her.

Was it possible for her to ask for help from the king? She would trade anything and do anything just for Julian.

Rowena bowed her head low. "I come here in search of a cure, Your Majesty. My friend has been poisoned by accident. Someone utilized the poisonous corals around the entrance to your realm."

"Is that so?" King Urther's expression became serious. "Poison... all of my kind are immune to those poisonous corals. It seems we have made the wrong choice of markers in our entrances. I will rectify this immediately."

"Your Majesty, please do not approach this vile one!" The shark Merman pointed his trident at Rowena's back as water suddenly wrapped tightly around her body.

"We do not treat people like that, Washrer." The King of the Merfolks frowned at his guard, but then he suddenly grimaced. He hunched over and clutched his chest, there was a large visible scar across it that barely looked healed.

"Your Majesty!"

The scar was something that surprised Rowena and yet she had a lingering suspicion that already formed in the pit of her stomach.

She needed to get something for Julian and leave very fast if her a.s.sumptions were correct.

"Argh, it hurts every now and then," King Urther cursed underneath his breath and forced himself upwards. He offered Rowena a pained smile. "My apologies, young one. This is... this is something you might call a battle scar."

He couldn't act weak in front of a guest and yet what nonsense did his Water Guard speak about this poor half-elf who only wanted to help her friend?

"I... I see, Your Majesty." Rowena kept her head down low. "I do not wish to linger here in the Merfolks realm any further if it will disturb you, Your Majesty. I only need a cure and then I will return to the surfac

e."

"No!" The Water Guard pointed his trident against Rowena's neck. "This half-elf claims that she is the sp.a.w.n of that b.a.s.t.a.r.d you encountered in Cretea!"

King Urther quickly looked up and finally knew why she seemed so familiar. He tried to pa.s.s it off as mere coincidence, but the resemblance was too much, and if what she claimed was correct...

"The sins of my father do not apply to me!" Rowena immediately tried to break free from her constraints as she looked at the King and tried to remain calm. "Your Majesty, I am terribly sorry for what my father had done"

"Please speak no further." King Urther raised a hand and looked at Rowena.

Meanwhile, Rowena's own heart pounded wildly in her chest and she could barely hear anything as the sound of blood rushed in her ears.

She only needed to make this Merfolk understand... and surely he would have understood right?

Rowena had hope that the king was far more reasonable than others. Surely he wouldn't bear a grudge over the child of someone who had hurt him? Or would he?

The opposite stance seemed more reasonable. If someone had hurt you, it was only logical to respond in kind. That was something that she had learned and told in the past, and yet she clung to hope.

King Urther closed his eyes and turned his head away from Rowena.

"Your Majesty," the Water Guard looked at his king worriedly.

"What is your name, child?" the king asked.

"Rowena, Your Majesty." she answered uneasily. She didn't want to use her last name because she despised it.

"Rowena... hmm, you have your mother's eyes," King Urther said.

Those words finally left Rowena in a state of shock. This was someone who knew her mother? Someone who had been hurt by her father... in Cretea?

"But if you truly are your father's daughter... then I'm afraid that I cannot easily believe you," King Urther said with a long sigh. "A venomous snake. Did he send you here to taunt me? I cannot believe your words any longer, child."

"What?! That's unfair!" Rowena jerked forward and tried to break free. "I am not lying! My friend is dying! I ran away from home and no longer have ties with my father!"

"Take her to one of our towers." King Urther immediately corrected himself. He couldn't be swayed just because of appearances. "No. Take her to our dungeons."

The appearance of Rowena in the Merfolks realm was something that disrupted the life of King Urther and that was why he immediately sent her out.

He sat back on his throne and ordered his servants to bring him something to drink so he could con

template what he would do to the child and it filled him with nostalgia.

Long ago, he once had the aspirations to become greater when he was merely one of the princes in his kingdom and sought after the tournament after the G.o.ds.

Along the way there, he encountered many individuals, friends, and enemies and among them had been Rowena's uncle and father.

Different races all in one place, it was almost something one might have called a miracle for them to get along, and yet it still happened.

However, King Draco turned out to be ruthless and betrayed him during one of the more vicious compet.i.tions just so he could continue on.
