Hearing the shout of their comrade, the rest immediately jolted to looked behind them and what they saw were two Hunter Type zombie das.h.i.+ng towards them like an olympic sprinter.
Their leader just raised an eyebrow and calmly commanded, "Vin and Ned, we'll take rear guard. The rest, clear the way towards our car. Now!"
""Sir!""
The other four armed men hastily made their way forward while killing all the zombies that get in their way while their leader along with Vin and Ned slowly etched backwards while shooting at the two Hunters as the latter dodged from side to side.
Ultimately, these mutated zombies was still unlucky enough as they died riddled with bullets hole on their bodies as their lifeless bodies slumped just a few yards away from the three armed men and just a bit, just a bit more and their claws would have been able to tear the vulnerable bodies of these soldiers into pieces.
But the men didn't immediately relaxed their guard and instead immediately dashed away as they followed behind the others as they maneuvered along the abandoned vehicles on their way.
If someone was looking from a tall building then they would see that the place where the soldiers are, is actually a huge parking lot now turned into a car "graveyard" and because of the sound emitted by their firearms, the zombies from around the town are slowly converging towards their direction and the fastest are those mutated zombies.
Luckily for this group, the town's only so small compared to the other bigger towns so the mutated zombies are only limited in numbers and they are of lowest type of mutated zombies, the Hunter and Striker, that attacks with its disgusting tentacle like tongue.
If it were ordinary civilians who caused the ruckus earlier, then they would have long descended into panic but this soldiers are clearly veterans as all of them didn't even show signs of panic at all, clearly displaying how cool headed they could be even in this dangerous situation that they had gotten themselves into.
Hundred meters.
Seventy five meters.
Fifty meters.
The soldiers just ran and ran and didn't even looked back as they just focused on escaping from the place.
Twenty five meters.
Five meters.
A couple of seconds later, they finally reached their destination. It was a military cargo truck.
"Go, go, go!" their leader said as he stopped and started to open fire at the incoming mutated zombies behind them, giving them a cover fire so that all of them could get on in the truck.
When the truck's engine rumbled to life, the leader immediately left his post and jumped in the truck as the soldiers who was already inside also gave him a cover fire.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
"Move!" one soldiers said while banging the back the metallic divider behind the driver's seat.
The truck immediately accelerated as the truck shook when it just ran over the zombies in front of it and when they finally shook off the small encirclement, it drifted in an S shape motion as it knocked over all the zombies wandering around, creating a small dust cloud behind them.
The truck then sped off into the distance and when the soldiers finally that they were safe, the slumped down on their seat with relief as they wiped off the sweat that gathered on their face and their racing heart finally calmed down.
If Leo was here, his eyes would probably bulged in shock knowing that this group of people actually had working modern firearms with them.
"Sh*t, we're finally out of that h.e.l.lhole" one of them said with a chuckle, refreshed after drinking a sip of his water.
"Yeah"
The soldiers smiled to each other as they all laughed in the end.
Their leader just smiled at them and didn't say anything and just looked at the direction of the Town where they escaped from with no one what thoughts are going inside his mind.
Almost two hours later, they finally reached another location as they pa.s.sed by a road sign that says…
"Welcome to Aberdeen, Come As You Are"
"Haa~ I just hope the proving ground is still intact" one of them sighed with a helpless look.
If there are other people with them, they would have immediately noticed that these soldiers aren't British but part of the US army with the scar face man having a Captain Rank with the lowest being a corporal and every single one of them have the Delta Force Insignia on their combat uniform.
The truck then stopped at the side of the road as the road in front of them leading to the city are already jam packed with abandoned cars that got left behind by a group of panicked people when the plague ensued.
The group then got off slowly from the truck and spent a few minutes to maintain their guns before they cautiously made their way through the garden of abandoned vehicles.
It may be that luck is s.h.i.+ning brightly upon them, they actually didn't meet even a single zombie in sight even when they are already at the edge of the city but it seems their lucky star finally exhausted its energy when they finally encountered a small swarm of ordinary zombies on the road.
The group then hastily made their way towards a nearby grocery store and immediately shut the door behind them and they cautiously watched the swarm of slow moving, annoying and persistent zombies slowly pa.s.sing by the store they were at.
"Sir~" suddenly, one of the soldiers. A burly man, who was the tallest among them whispered towards the scar faced man.
The said man immediately glared at him which made the latter flinch.
"What?"
"I found a staircase leading atop the building. The good thing is we are currently located in the residential area, so we can use it to move from roof to roof of the buildings here" the man showed a bitter smile and whispered.
"Good, let's go" the man said and gestured at his men to lead the way.
The latter then nodded as he led them through the back room of the store as they headed inside a room that has a plaque on its door that reads utility room and once inside, the room was full of tools just as the room's name suggest, it was dark inside so they used their torch lights and they finally saw a small staircase that leads upwards at the back right corner of the room.
"Let's go"
"Wait captain"
"What is it Rick?"
The huge dude who discovered this room, Rick, just smiled and pointed towards a corner with his lights and what the others saw was a pack of a dozen bottled water and some biscuits sitting on a small table just behind the door of the room, waiting for their rightful "owners".
Upon seeing these lifesaving items, all of their eyes lit up.
"Alright, take two bottles and one biscuit each" their leader nonchalantly said without even a hint of emotion on his face like what they just found wasn't that significant.
They immediately packed all of it and ascended the staircase that leads on top of the building.
