Chapter 69 - Healing Plan
With that, Zhong Pinliang spun on his heel and made a run for it. Zhang Naipao and Gao Xiaofu followed as well- Lin Yi was coming right at them!
Xiaobo's neck was still stretched, his chest still puffed as he readied himself for the imminent blows. Nothing happened, and he opened one of his eyes in curiosity, only to see Zhong Pinliang running away with his group.
"Huh?" Xiaobo stared at the scene in shock- what was going on? Did his unexpected courage scare them off? Perhaps his threat of paying them back tenfold made them think twice about crossing him?
Seriously? Wouldn't that make him the main character of a novel?
Xiaobo was still trying to process what happened when a huge hand landed on his shoulder, giving him a jump. He turned his head only to see Lin Yi smiling at him. "What're you doing, standing here like that?"
"Ah!" Xiaobo understood immediately after seeing Lin Yi- they were running from Lin Yi, not hm!!
"Well, I'm going!" Lin Yi gave Xiaobo's shoulder another pat before quickly making his way to Li Fu's car.
Lin Yi had caught Xiaobo's situation in the corner of his eye after parting with him. He didn't want his friend getting beat up by Zhong Pinliang, and decide to help him out.
Xiaobo exhaled a long breath of relief. Lin Yi was long gone before he could even say thanks. He made a fist with his hand as he stared into the sky, thinking about what it would take for someone like him to become like Lin Yi.
The guy had just transferred in for two days, and he'd taken out Zhong Pinliang of the Big Four already, to the point where Pinliang would just run after seeing him!!
Lin Yi seated himself in the front seat, shutting the door as Mengyao frowned, silent. Yushu, on the other hand, was grinning at Lin Yi. "Wow, s.h.i.+eld Guy. Scaring them off by just showing them your face?"
Lin Yi only laughed a little in response- Yushu obviously saw what happened.
"See, Yao Yao? What did I say, Lin Yi's strong! Zhong Pinliang won't so much as talk to you with Lin Yi by your side!" Yushu said, tugging at Mengyao's arm.
"He's not a lot better than Zhong Pinliang, alright!" Mengyao said with a hmph, still not willing to accept Lin Yi, despite acknowledging how Lin Yi had Zhong Pinliang dealt with in only two days. Hmph, he's just good at fighting, that's all.
Lin Yi didn't mind Mengyao's att.i.tude, at this point- he'd gotten used to it. That was how girls from rich families were like, after all. It was fine as long as Mengyao didn't especially hate him; he was here for the mission anyway.
Lin Yi noticed the box of tissues on the coffee table upon walking in the villa, recalling the awkward episode with Yushu the other morning. He glanced at Yushu, who was darting her eyes about mischievously. Oh no. Lin Yi didn't waste any time in slipping into his room- he didn't want Yushu threatening him and giving him orders again.
Lin Yi started forming a plan for Huaijun's recovery, writing down the information from the bookstore earlier today, the details still fresh in his mind.
Huaijun's entire body was in discord, and there were both Eastern and Western medicine effects mixed into the mess. Huaijun looked healthy and fine now, but it took only one little change to turn everything into a destructive fatality.
Healing every damaged organ at once was impossible- even Old Lin probably couldn't manage a feat on that level.
Lin Yi's thorough a.n.a.lysis of Huaijun's pulse revealed that his meridians were completely cut off, along with the links that were spread throughout his organs. It wasn't a surprise that the organs were deteriorating at all.
Circ.u.mstances like this called for immediate attention to the meridians- all Lin Yi had to do was revive all of Huaijun's meridians, and the organs would start recovering again. Huaijun was only a little more than twenty years old, and his body was nowhere near the deteriorative stage yet- his body would heal naturally on its own.
Lin Yi let out a breath of relief after finis.h.i.+ng a satisfactory plan. He was confident that he'd be able to turn Huaijun back to normal, but there was always that tinge of worry and doubt at the back of his head when he lacked a proper, solid plan to rely on.
Old Lin might have been teaching Lin Yi a lot, but the man was really more family than teacher. Old Lin's kung fu was strong, but Lin Yi's killer techniques were actually taught by a teacher other than his old man…
It was said that Lin Yi's master had history with Old Lin- the two had been through tough times together, and they had absolute trust in each other. Lin Yi, naturally, didn't know much other than that.
A light snap sounded outside of Lin Yi's room, and his sensitive ears picked it up immediately. He tidied his desk up before das.h.i.+ng to the door, calming down when he realized it was Li Fu.
Lin Yi opened the door and stepped out. "Uncle Fu."
"Mister Lin, dinner's ready." Li Fu nodded at Lin Yi, a smile on his face.
Li Fu left right after leaving dinner on the table, and Mengyao locked the doors behind him. She glanced at Lin Yi, who was setting the food up with Yushu, clearly not intending to eat with them this time around, as well. He was walking past Mengyao when she opened her mouth, wanting to ask him to join them. The words got stuck in her throat, and Lin Yi had already closed his bedroom door by the time Mengyao finished hesitating.
Hmph, whatever. Mengyao was irritated- didn't she hint at him that she didn't mind him eating with them anymore? What's with him, locking himself in his room like that.
It was completely beyond Lin Yi's imagination that Mengyao would be thinking these thoughts; her att.i.tude towards him was still very fresh on his mind, after all. He decided to help Yushu set things up quickly before going back into his room, not wanting to be in Mengyao's sights any longer than necessary, since he displeased her so much.
He didn't mind eating their leftovers, anyway- Xiaobo was practically saying that the boys would line up for a taste of Yushu and Mengyao's leftovers, back when they chatted at lunch.
"s.h.i.+eld Guy's not joining us?" Yushu was about to call Lin Yi over when she remembered Mengyao. She didn't know if her friend would agree to that.
"Ignore him. We'll eat by ourselves." Mengyao replied curtly, annoyed.
"Oh…" Yushu picked her chopsticks up, and was about to start eating when a thought crossed her mind. She pushed an open bottle of orange juice in front of Mengyao. "This one's mine, Yao Yao, you can drink it if you want!"
Mengyao's face paled with one look at the juice, evidently recalling the whole first kiss incident two days ago. She shot a deadly glare at Yushu. "Shu, are you doing this on purpose?"
"What? I'm just being nice, okay." Yushu said innocently as she blinked into Mengyao's eyes.
"Don't seduce me with your eyes like that- go do that to your precious s.h.i.+eld Guy." Mengyao snapped, displeased.
Chapter 70 - Lin Yi's Little Secret
Mengyao and Yushu had small appet.i.tes, and they'd always finish only a quarter of the food Li Fu sent them. It seemed wasteful, but Li Fu wanted the girls to have a balanced and healthy diet, thus making sure to always have three or four different dishes coupled with one soup.
These types of dishes had to be prepared in standard portions, after all. It was impossible to manage the flame and spices on small portions of said dishes and still finish the dish while maintaining an equal quality. As such, the chefs at the hotel followed the standard menu when preparing dinner for Li Fu to pick up.
Mengyao found the food unappealing a few bites in- the image of Lin Yi saving her yesterday kept popping up in her mind! She'd always chat livelily with Yushu whenever they ate together, and a meal usually took up to half an hour until they were done, but…
She was very troubled. Did that guy really take his job that seriously, sacrificing himself for a couple hundred thousand kuai? Mengyao didn't know where her father managed to find someone like him, but she found herself softening her att.i.tude towards Lin Yi significantly.
Was it because Lin Yi saved her yesterday? Fine, I'll let him stay for a while. It's kinda nice having a bodyguard around.
"I'm full." Mengyao's previous att.i.tude towards Lin Yi was indeed quite ridiculous, now that she thought about it. The guy even had to eat leftovers.
"Hm? What's wrong, Yao Yao? You barely touched your food yet." Yushu asked curiously- the girl had only took a handful of bites.
"I'm just a little tired, I guess." Mengyao shook her head. "I'm going up. Go tell Lin Yi to eat with you."
"Hah??" Yushu blinked as Mengyao walked up the stairs. What the..?
Mengyao was indeed troubled. Lin Yi was someone she absolutely hated, but he'd saved her life even so- she had wanted to treat him more kindly, but the guy refused to take her gesture! Fine, do what you want. I'm not eating either. Hmph.
Yushu was still blinking, trying to figure things out as she watched Mengyao's languished form disappear upstairs. Was she still traumatized over what had happened yesterday? No way, right? It's been a whole day already, why are you still thinking about that?
Yushu put her chopsticks down, running to Lin Yi's room to give his door a knock. "Yo, s.h.i.+eld Guy! Dinner's ready!"
Lin Yi opened the door and looked at Yushu. "You calling me?"
"Who else? You think I'd call Yao Yao s.h.i.+eld Guy? You're the only guy here…" Yushu gave a soft slap at her forehead. "Ah, there's still General Wei Wu, Doggy Bro…"
"......" Lin Yi was speechless- this girl was comparing him with a dog.
"Well, let's go. I'm starving." With that, Yushu darted off into the dining area.
Lin Yi peeked his head out the door- Mengyao wasn't at the table. He walked out after Yushu, curious. "Where's the Miss?"
"Yao Yao? She said she wasn't hungry, and went upstairs." Yushu explained, pointing at Mengyao's empty chair. "Let's eat! See, we even have your rice and chopsticks set up."
"Oh." Lin Yi turned his eyes to the table- they actually were. Lin Yi didn't see a reason to eat leftovers anymore, now that Mengyao was gone. Yushu was weird, but that didn't really matter.
Heh heh heh… Yushu smiled wickedly as she watched Lin Yi pick the chopsticks up, putting a piece of vegetable onto his rice. Yushu held a victory fist under the table, very delighted as Lin Yi put an entire mouthful of food into his mouth.
Yes!! There, Yao Yao- I've avenged you! Lin Yi's eating all your saliva right now! Yushu couldn't stop grinning as she watched her revenge plan play out- this should make up for Mengyao eating Lin Yi's saliva yesterday.
"Slow down, you're gonna choke yourself. Here, juice." Yushu said, pus.h.i.+ng a bottle of orange juice to Lin Yi.
"Thanks." Lin Yi did feel a little like hiccupping upon hearing Yushu's words. He was gulping it down when he realized something was wrong. "This… juice…"
"Oh, it's Yao Yao's. She didn't finish it, and there's too much left to throw away." Yushu said as she looked innocently at Lin Yi. "You don't mind right? You're not gonna go vomit in the toilet are you?"
"Oh.." Lin Yi replied blankly- Yushu obviously did it on purpose, but this was nothing to Lin Yi. There was that time in a primitive jungle when all his metal had been used for weapons, leaving only one set of utensils for him and his group to share. His mentality had long viewed sharing saliva as a very trivial thing.
A pretty girl's saliva, however, was a different matter- not everyone got to experience something like that; Mengyao could spit into a bowl and Zhong Pinliang would probably lick it up without hesitation, Lin Yi thought evilly.
Yushu was a little disappointed at Lin Yi's lack of reaction, but a different concern was pressing at her- didn't she drink from that bottle, as well..? Yushu couldn't help but blush a bit at the thought.
Although, Mengyao did drink from it after she did, so it didn't count, right? Wasn't that how it worked? Her saliva shouldn't be on there anymore. Yushu thought as she tried to calm herself down. Yes, that had to be the case.
"Hey, s.h.i.+eld Guy, I'm thirsty- get me some water!" Yushu ordered- the food was a bit salty.
"Do it yourself." Lin Yi rejected without even looking up from his food.
"Tissues… TV…" Yushu coughed.
Lin Yi could only roll his eyes in response- the thing had become a code, now? Feeling helpless, Lin Yi got up from his chair and got Yushu a gla.s.s of water, thinking that Yushu did treat him rather nicely, remembering to call him out for dinner. Lin Yi was willing to endure it because of that.
Huaijun would probably burst into laughter if he learned about Lin Yi serving two rich Misses every day.
Lin Yi picked a pink gla.s.s and filled it with water- he knew it was Yushu's.
"Thanks s.h.i.+eld Guyyy!" Yushu said sweetly as she took the gla.s.s of water.
Lin Yi continued his meal, not thinking much about it. Yushu had wanted to sound sweet to make Lin Yi a little happier and willing about running the errand, but the guy didn't so much as look at her! It really seemed as if Lin Yi found the chicken pieces in his bowl more appealing to look at than Yushu's own face.
In actuality, Lin Yi did find what Yushu tried to do very sweet- who wouldn't? He was, however, in the middle of a mission, despite it all. His relations.h.i.+ps with the current people around him weren't for life- he'd part ways with them after the mission was completed. They'd most likely never see each other ever again, and Lin Yi didn't want too many attachments to form.
He was tasked to act as Mengyao's study companion, too- what the h.e.l.l would he even be doing if he went on with the Miss' best friend, anyway?
It was two days in, and Lin Yi still hadn't figured out what Pengzhan's intentions were- it seemed quite a stretch to pull him out all the way from Mount Starwest just for a study companion and bodyguard. His enemies up until this point, after all, were a low intelligence Baldy and a f.u.c.ktard Zhong Pinliang!! Lin Yi didn't know what to say- the whole thing was a bit absurd.
