Chapter 295. Time Passed (1)

[The History of the Holy Empire Completely Ended after Being in Power for 1093 Years.]

[It was the will of the citizens who couldn’t stand the imperial family anymore, as well as the nobles’ wickedness, along with the will of the Goddess of Benigoa who wanted to get rid of the heretics, renegades, and traitors. On November 9th, when the revolution was completed, a trial was held for the traitors, which lasted for exactly one week. A week later, on the 23rd of the same month, an institution called the New People’s Assembly was created by the Citizen Revolutionary Group.]

[The New People’s Assembly was an organization that selected 200 citizens as representatives, and they established the constitution and human laws. The discussion of state affairs as well as its management is also in the hands of the assembly. The organization consists of 42 nobles who supported the declaration, 60 foreigners, and 98 ordinary citizens from the Citizen Revolutionary Group. This was their mighty first step in starting the new sacred democracy.]

[Their first task was none other than dealing with the renegades. The Vatican respected the will of the Citizen Revolutionary Group by handing the trial over to them. The first historical vote was held in the New People’s Assembly, and with 199 in favor and one abstention, it was decided that the traitors would be executed. At the end of the 29th day of November, excluding Charlotte, everyone in the imperial family was executed along with the first princess, the last bloodline of the imperial family. The execution was carried out in a very humane way according to the former second princess’ requests.]

[Shortly after, a provisional government was established, and a general election was held, which was organized by the New People’s Assembly. It was the Sacred Democratic Church’s proud…]

“Proud first general election.”

“...”

“It hasn’t been a year since the incident, but the people living in the Sacred Democratic Country have to know this information. I don’t need to mention the fact that we could only claim this victory because many people had sacrificed themselves. The information you learned today will likely appear on the test, so you must know it. Now, let me ask a question. You learned this yesterday, too. Who is allowed to vote within our democratic country?”

“M-Me! Me! Me! Me!” Dialuria exclaimed.

“Okay, Luria. What’s the answer?”

“All the citizens of this country and the foreigners!” Dialuria answered.

“You’re right. Very good. I’ll give you a good job card, so please get it after class. As Luria said, the leader of the Citizen Revolutionary Group and now the leader of our Sacred Democratic Country, Oscar, gave the people the right to vote right after she established the provisional government.”

“Okay!”

After answering the question confidently, Diauria looked back, and the way she smiled brightly with a hat on her head was an amusing sight. Even though he had raised his hand, Museum Manager Max looked disappointed because he didn’t get selected.

‘Cute...’

Dialuria had to be very happy because she showed how well she was doing. I observed the class to keep my promise to Dialugia, but after seeing her expression, I became happy that I came here.

‘I also have to see if they’re doing a good job at teaching…’

Obviously, I was curious how Dialuria and Max were doing. Even though I couldn’t act as their father every day, I had grown fond of them, so I wanted to see their growth and to be a little bit more honest, I had another reason aside from this personal reason.

I was interested in the current education system. The publication of government textbooks and the education based on them was just as important as outside work. I didn’t set up this division so that it would be active for just a few years. It had to be active for at least ten; no, a hundred more years because the education of the citizens was a necessity rather than a choice.

History lessons weren’t really important to Max and Dialuria, so I told them to let it in through one ear and out the other, but that didn’t apply to the children next to them. History was considered more important than swordsmanship and magic and the children here today would become our loyal voters. Afterward, their children and their children’s children would become our valuable voters as well.

This kind of work wasn’t really necessary since I had complete control of the goddess’ mirror, but more insurance was better.

‘It only takes one moment to fall...’

It may seem a bit much, but educational institutions were being built all over the empire.

When I glanced over, I saw Dialugia smiling widely as she looked at Dialuria. The other parents were like her as well. Of course, I noticed them glancing at me, too. The children of former nobles, famous adventurer couples, as well as the children of rich families attended this private school; however, Holy Father Basel had appointed me as the Sacred Democratic Country's Honorary Cardinal. Moreover, I was the Sub Guild Master of Lindel’s, no, the democratic country’s most famous guild, so I could understand why they were looking at me.

‘It’s funny...’

Within the empire, there were less than ten people with more power than me, and without taking our official positions into account, there were at least three people more powerful than me. The citizens had succeeded in completing a great revolution, but the gap between statuses was still there. A lot had changed, but the key point was that it felt like nothing had changed. Similar to what I had explained to Charlotte, I could guarantee that the crucial parts would remain the same.

“Isn’t our Dialuria really smart?” Dialugia asked.

“Of course she is. Do you know who she takes after?” I questioned.

“I believe she takes it from me,” she answered.

I was confident that Dialuria was smart because of me.

“It looks like history class will be over soon. Next is the swordsmanship demonstration, and there will be a magic demonstration after that. Let’s hurry and move. Ah, Dialuria said she’s going to learn alchemy after school, so you must take a look,” Dialugia explained.

“I was going to do it even without you pestering me about it. By the way, Dialugia, is there… really a need for her to learn that? I don’t think Smartie really needs that…” I mentioned.

“Aren’t you the one who suggested that she attend school?” Dialugia pointed out.

“It’s all for the sake of gaining some social skills… not to take these kinds of lessons,” I answered.

“It’ll be good to learn about things at the least. It’s true that it’s useless to dragons, but our Dialuria said she wanted to learn and these types of activities really help in brain development as well... She has also been learning basic combat skills despite her young age. And she may not be an expert at history yet, but she has become somewhat familiar with the history of the continent,” she replied.

“Ah, you’re right.”

“Regardless, it’s definitely helpful that she has been using her brain a lot, especially during this time. She even has more mana than the other children her age,” she continued.

“How can you compare her to others when there aren't any other dragons?” I asked.

“You can just tell, hehe,” Dialugia answered with a giggle.

I didn’t think anyone loved their daughter as much as Dialugia did and for some reason, my face started turning red. I thought she had changed a little bit, but it seemed like she had become a helicopter mom.[1] The only difference was that compared to before, Smartie wasn’t keeping her distance from her mom anymore, but when I saw her expression, Smartie looked as if she didn’t like me standing next to her mother.

“That’ll be it for today’s lesson. The swordsmanship demonstration will begin shortly, so the students must arm themselves, and the parents can start heading toward the tourney hall,” the teacher instructed.

Since things were happening just like Dialugia said, she had to have thoroughly memorized the schedule.

Anyway, we started walking just like the teacher instructed and on our way there, I didn’t forget to greet those who greeted me.

“Father Lee Ki-Young. Hahaha. I never imagined I’d run into you here,” Senator Chenko greeted.

“Yes, it’s been a while, Senator Chenko. Haha. What a coincidence. Isn’t this our first time seeing each other after that incident? How have you been doing lately?” I asked.

“I’ve always been great, and Miss Oscar is still the same. I have been worried because there are so many issues that have to be taken care of…” Senator Chenko muttered.

“Is there something difficult to deal with?” I asked.

“It’s the usual. It’s the Union of Kingdoms again,” he answered.

“Ahhh.”

“I don’t know if it’s because they feel threatened after the revolution, but they aren’t being friendly to us just yet. The Republic sent a congratulatory message, but there hasn’t been any reaction from them since then, so it has been really frustrating for us. I don’t know what the Office of Foreign Affairs is up to… but anyway, things still feel out of place internally,” he explained.

“That’s a given. I’m certain the Union of Kingdoms is worried that a revolution may start internally. They’re concerned that they might get affected by our revolution. You don’t have to worry too much, Senator. I’m sure a solution will present itself after some time passes,” I assured him.

“Hm, I see.”

“Actually, my trip to a neutral country is also related to that, so you don’t have to worry,” I added.

“Is that right?”

“The kingdom cannot keep maintaining that kind of attitude because the majority of the foreigners living there are kind to us,” I continued.

“You’re talking about the goddess’ mirror,” he commented.

“That’s right. It’s the same for the citizens, but the foreigners are very used to the goddess’ mirror. Unlike the vested interests of the kingdom, the foreigners who had settled there are hoping that they could import the goddess’ mirror,” I explained.

The appearance of television in this barren land meant that they would want it as well. The denizens of Lindel, Celia, and Dawan reacted positively to it. Instead of creating a mirror that covered the sky, it was important to make it small so that it could be placed in every house. It was a short period of time, but dramas and movies started surfacing and the ‘Master of Battle’ which we had aired as a test achieved a very high rating. Of course, the people would react positively to it since the masters who had been in this field for many years had told us tips and tricks about what was needed on the battlefield. The citizens, who were very interested in the foreigners, started falling for that stupid box one by one, and I was certain that each of the kingdoms within the Union of Kingdoms was struggling due to the requests of the foreigners who were asking them to import the goddess’ mirror.

‘Culture and technology are weapons as well.’

In some ways, they were more dangerous than a sword or spear.

While I was having other thoughts, I heard Dialugia’s voice.

“It’s Dialuria’s turn now. She’s doing it now...”

“Ah, okay, I’m coming,” I told her.

The swordsmanship demonstration started, but I didn’t expect much because the result was pretty clear. Our Smartie crushed the children around her with just her basic physical abilities, and as expected, she displayed her swordsmanship skills by using her physical abilities against the citizens. She was openly showing her bad manners.

‘She’s better than most adventurers…’

Moreover, she was using her sword-wielding opponent to stand out rather than finishing them off. Anyone could tell that her opponent had better swordsmanship, but the kid Smartie was fighting against couldn’t keep up with her agility and strength. Even worse, Smartie would always point her sword at her opponent and show everyone her next move before ending the fight.

‘I feel really bad for her opponent…’

The child had to have been training their swordsmanship for a long time, and they bit their lips as they tried their best not to disappoint their parents. However, no matter how much they trained, they were no match for Smartie. There was just that big of a difference between their basic stats, so the kid was basically being humiliated. My stats were low as well, so I couldn't help but emphatize with the child. I was even ashamed of Dialugia giggling and clapping next to me.

“Don’t you think our Dialuria is very skilled? I don’t know much about swordsmanship, but I can’t even compare her to the other children. It hasn’t even been a year since she officially started training, so her talent has to be a gift from heaven,” Dialugia said.

‘Your daughter is a dragon, and she’s just forcing her victories through strength…’

“She’s trying not to hurt her opponent as well; she’s very considerate…” Dialugia added.

‘She’s humiliating them rather than being considerate of them…’

“I think I’m disgracing myself here,” she remarked.

‘You are…’

The things I wanted to say remained bottled up inside me.

“The winner is Dialuria.”

“Good job, my daughter! Dialuria! You’re the best! You’re the best, Dialuria!” Dialugia shouted.

It was ridiculous how Smartie even did a victory pose while looking at me. I had no idea whom she had taken after, but her bad manners were on a whole new level.

1. A helicopter parent is a parent who pays extremely close attention to a child's or children's experiences and problems, particularly at educational institutions. ☜
