Chapter 197. Dragon’s Nest, Experiment, Change, Enhance (5)

It had been a while since I was filled with enthusiasm, so I officially started my research. Gathering data about Dialugia was a priority, so I continued scanning her with Mind’s Eye while I contemplated if I was missing something all day. Before, I told her she had to lie down, but I had no choice but to ask her to move around now. It was because I had to study her athletic ability and how much of her mana she could use. I didn’t know how strong her Breath was, but I was able to obtain some data based on her magic ability and testimony.

‘One city?’

She testified that she could blow away a small city. It wasn’t strange at all because her magic stat was 125, and she had advanced magic knowledge that only the top players possessed. Obviously, I couldn’t find any records with Mind’s Eye that she possessed advanced magic knowledge, but there was evidence that she had something similar. If she didn’t have advanced magic knowledge, then she wouldn’t be able to use various Breaths. She had two types of Breaths, and I categorized the two like this...

1. A radial form with enough power to destroy a city.

2. A concentrated form for those with high magic resistance, or those she had a difficult time handling with her powers alone.

The radial form of Breath was created to handle many enemies rather than a single enemy. It had a massive range, but it wasn’t as effective against people like Cha Hee-Ra or humans with high magic resistance, and that was why the concentrated form of Breath was created. The range of the concentrated form was smaller, but it was superior in everything else because it consumed a lot of mana. It was difficult to gauge the exact values, but it was strong enough to break through the shield of an archmage who had unlocked their sixth job. Of course, the concentrated form's projectile speed was much faster, so even people with high agility couldn’t really dodge it.

Breath wasn’t the only area I focused on. I immediately extracted data on her agility and strength stat to see how strong she was and stored other data about her in my head. There was a small margin of error, and I was going to do more precise measurements later because I had to run right now.

‘I shouldn’t just focus on one side…’

Focusing on just one side wouldn’t be as productive because she was big, voluminous, and she carried a massive amount of knowledge. It was rare to spend so much time studying just the specifications, and honestly, I couldn’t even do it alone. I assumed that Dialugia wouldn’t be able to fly, but I was kind of surprised she was able to fly using her mana. The massive mana consumption meant she rarely flew, but the important part was that she could fly.

‘She’s definitely a dragon.’

I had no choice but to give Dialugia a better assessment, and obviously, I wasn’t just focused on calculating her stats. Categorizing and extracting data like this was the basics, and it had to be done so that my future research would smoothly proceed. Usually, I would wait for the data to pile up, but Dialugia was a living being.

The blood and cells I had extracted from her were almost infinite. Basically, after extracting a few liters of blood from her, her body would restore it within a few hours, so there wasn’t a reason for me to slow down my research while worrying about money and materials. As long as I excluded elements that could threaten my safety…

‘I’m going for it.’

It didn’t matter if the experiment was somewhat dangerous because I was still going to do it. No matter which path I took, they all led to the same destination, and the facility I was in was so big that I could lay out all of my equipment without worrying about money. The various alchemist kits sitting in this large space operated without stopping. Various materials were constantly getting refined and the magic circle’s fire never went out. Of course, Jung Ha-Yan was the one supplying mana to the magic circle.

Everything about Dialugia was top secret and Jung Ha-Yan was the only one allowed to enter the lab. I thought it would be better to call for Park Deok-Gu’s girl, Hwang Jung-Yeon, the mage scholar, but I had decided Jung Ha-Yan was the only person I could fully trust, so I didn’t bother calling for her.

Dialugia was my greatest treasure. I guess you could call me greedy for not wanting to share data about her to the people I was close to and was part of the same guild. It was to the point that I repeatedly mumbled “My precious,” while staring at her.

Excluding the accidental jackpot I had experienced on the first day of the experiment, I hadn’t obtained anything else, but I wasn’t feeling anxious. It was all because I was certain there was going to be an improvement. The vast amount of data and the continuously running alchemist kits were similar to a fully-automated laboratory.

Dialugia was looking at us because she didn’t know what was going on, but she would sometimes fall asleep, and she probably thought lying down could be considered resting. When there was no progress on the outside, I naturally became interested in the inside of her body. I had no intention of dissecting my lovely Dialugia, so I started off by scanning her entire body and performing various experiments all at once. Out of all the experiments, the most memorable one was when I entered her body. It might sound crazy, but Jung Ha-Yan and I actually entered through her mouth and explored the inside of her body. With Jung Ha-Yan’s help, I was able to explore not only Dialugia’s esophagus and stomach, but her other organs as well.

- Is this really necessary?

“This is all for the development of the great alchemy, and it’s also for you,” I replied.

- I don’t even know what my body is like.

“If you think it’s getting dangerous, we’ll come out immediately, so you don’t have to worry,” I assured her.

- It’s not because I think you’re dangerous. I-I’m just embarrassed.

“...”

- …

Surprisingly, it was the first experiment that made Dialugia feel uncomfortable. She said that the experiment made her feel naked, but she wasn’t wearing clothes in the first place, so I couldn’t help but chuckle because I had never imagined she would say something like that.

Thankfully, Jung Ha-Yan and I hadn’t experienced a heartbreaking situation like us dissolving in gastric acid because dragons didn’t digest their food. Instead, they broke it down into mana. However, Jung Ha-Yan and I could have been broken down into mana as well.

Unbeknownst to her, Dialugia’s organs had almost started to break us down into mana, but Jung Ha-Yan’s protective magic saved me.

Our first body expedition ended there, and after creating our own special equipment, we went in again, and we were able to look around more safely. I discovered an interesting fact while exploring her body: the structure of her organs was more complex than a human’s organs. This didn’t really come as a surprise because she was a member of a race considered to be high-ranked.

The fact that she digested food by breaking them down into mana was surprising. I did find it fascinating that the amount of food Smartie had been eating was greater than their body size, but who knew their organs looked like that? Like a trope found in fantasy novels, the summoned mana was sent to their heart, and from their heart, the mana would flow throughout their body along with their blood.

‘So, that’s it...’

So, that was the reason why her mana-filled blood could be used as a catalyst. There was a reason why people wanted a dragon’s heart. Dialugia’s other organs were also interesting; in some ways, her body was like a large power plant. The food she ate would be broken down into mana, and that mana would circulate throughout her entire body. Her body didn’t discharge unrefined and contaminated mana. Instead, they would go through a purification process before they could be used as mana. The secret to all the energy going into her actions was in her mana.

I could only nod after seeing everything about Dialugia, but Jung Ha-Yan seemed fascinated by how Dialugia’s body was moving, so she started to analyze her own data. There were things Jung Ha-Yan could learn as well, and in the end, she became enveloped by a golden light while inside Dialugia. She had awakened a legendary-ranked attribute.

[The Heart of an Archmage - Legendary Rank]

It was ridiculous.

“What kind of attribute is it? Actually, how—”

“I created an additional organ with mana,” Jung Ha-Yan replied.

“What?” I asked, dumbfounded.

“I thought it would be good if I had one too, so… I tried it…” she muttered.

“...”

“And I think it worked, Oppa. Hehehe…” she giggled.

“I see… Good job, Ha-Yan,” I complimented her.

“Hehehe…”

She didn’t have to explain the details because I already knew about it as I kept on watching her. I knew she was a genius, but this was so ridiculous that I started to panic. Even though she couldn’t break down everything into mana like Dialugia could, I was sure she was constantly recycling the mana within her body. In addition to creating something akin to a charger that could quickly recharge the mana in her body, she could also continuously refine and accumulate the remaining mana in her body after using her magic. Her magic stat hadn’t increased, but she had created a system that would continuously circulate and recharge her mana.

I had been imagining to myself that maybe, I was starting to close the gap between us, but this was a wake-up call for me as to why a genius was called a genius in the first place. Naturally, Jung Ha-Yan’s awakening provoked me a lot, and even though I didn’t feel inferior to her, I still felt that it was unfair. I wanted to obtain one more thing on top of the Unique Legendary-ranked job, Dragon Alchemist.

As I was continuing my research on the serum that could help strengthen Park Deok-Gu, I had made a theoretical approach during my spare time about how Dialugia was able to shoot her Breath. Breath was a skill that transferred mana stored in a dragon’s heart to a special organ in the neck, and from there, it would then be immediately released.

It was true that collecting samples from an important internal organ would put Dialugia at risk because if I did something wrong and she became unable to use Breath anymore, it would be a massive problem. That was why I chose to create a small model of her organs. After scanning all of her organs using Mind’s Eye, I tried to figure out how her organs worked. Hundreds of experiments became useless, but I kept obtaining hints, which eventually led to the creation of a small bottle with the exact same shape as the main organ that allowed Dialugia to use Breath. The deformed glass bottle had already been processed using magic, and a small magic circle was engraved on it several times for amplification, diffusion, and control.

At the very end of the potion was a magical catalyst made out of Dialugia’s blood. If I added my mana into it, Dialugia’s blood inside it would drip into the small glass bottle.

Whiiiiiirl!

Her blood entered through the mouth of the deformed glass bottle and then activated the magic circle as it spun violently like a motor. It took about two seconds to get to this point. In the end, this small glass bottle would create a wave of mana that would release the mana in the blood in all directions. That was how dragons used Breath.

The glass bottle shattered because it couldn’t withstand the mana. The bottle directly exploded, and even though it wasn't the radial or concentrated form of Breath that Dialugia could use, it was enough for the firepower I wanted.
