Qiao Nan felt exceptionally safe in Zhai Sheng's embrace. With her man propping up her world for her, there was no longer the need for her to worry about everything as she had done before. All she had to do was to remain under Zhai Sheng's wings.

It was abnormally difficult for the w.a.n.g family to do anything against Qiao Nan. The w.a.n.g family was not w.a.n.g Yang, who had been in the capital for more than a year and had gained connections and a house in the capital because of Zhu Chengqi. w.a.n.g Yang still had a way of dealing with Qiao Nan if he tried.

But apart from w.a.n.g Yang, it was difficult for anyone else in the w.a.n.g family to establish themselves in the capital. They had neither money nor connections. Even though they had slight influence in Ping Cheng, they were not spared of the difficulties that the Beijing drifters were subject to once they were in the capital.

Knowing that that was the case, the w.a.n.g family was not so foolish as to choose that path of suffering for themselves. In the past, w.a.n.g Yang might have been a good nephew to the w.a.n.g family. But after he had withdrawn the lawsuit and enjoyed the benefits he had reaped from Zhu Chengqi without helping the rest of the w.a.n.g family, they had branded him as an ingrate and were no longer willing to give w.a.n.g Yang a second chance.

Once they succeeded, they would not hesitate to chase w.a.n.g Yang out of the w.a.n.g family if he dared to change his mind and try to get close to the w.a.n.g family. From now on, w.a.n.g Yang was no longer part of the w.a.n.g family, and neither did they have anything to do with him!

The w.a.n.g family had truly been enraged. All these years, w.a.n.g Yang hadn't even cared about his own parents just for the sake of gaining Zhu Chengqi's favor. Given Zhu Chengqi's position and status, w.a.n.g Yang could have made a fortune as long as Zhu Chengqi had given him even just a fraction of his a.s.sets.

Aside from the will, the w.a.n.g family knew that Zhu Chengqi had treated his nephew rather well. It was because of Zhu Chengqi's att.i.tude toward w.a.n.g Yang that the w.a.n.g family had misplaced their trust in w.a.n.g Yang, believing that w.a.n.g Yang would definitely bring the w.a.n.g family to greater heights after he inherited all of the Zhu family's a.s.sets after Zhu Chengqi's death. Then, the w.a.n.g family would become the second Zhu family.

But now, w.a.n.g Yang had become the most promising person in the w.a.n.g family with some help from Zhu Chengqi. He had reaped some benefits from staying by Zhu Chengqi's side, but what was the rest of them to do now that the Zhu family's a.s.sets had nothing to do with the w.a.n.g family?

Even though w.a.n.g Yang was indeed the most promising amongst them, he was reluctant to help the w.a.n.g family in any way. Besides, w.a.n.g Yang had clearly stated his intention to settle down in the capital. Unless he had the need to work with the w.a.n.g family, they were simply relatives at the very most. w.a.n.g Yang would never sacrifice his own interests to benefit his relatives in the w.a.n.g family.

If they remained in contact, they could perhaps get closer. This was w.a.n.g Yang's limit for the w.a.n.g family.

Because of w.a.n.g Yang's att.i.tude, the w.a.n.g family had been upset. If w.a.n.g Yang had inherited the Zhu family's a.s.sets, it would very well have been theirs. With those a.s.sets, they would have been able to rise to a position that w.a.n.g Yang was in, or even higher.

But now, that was gone! And w.a.n.g Yang was only willing to remain in contact with them if it was beneficial to him too. The w.a.n.g family was helpless. w.a.n.g Yang alone had gleaned benefits from Zhu Chengqi while they could only look on and see just how glorious w.a.n.g Yang's life was. Apart from envy, there was nothing they could do.

How could this happen?

Everyone from the w.a.n.g family pretty much shared the same thoughts. None of them could stand the fact that w.a.n.g Yang had gotten all of those advantages. Since w.a.n.g Yang wasn't going to be of any help to them, they would have to find a way to save themselves.

After berating w.a.n.g Yang in their hearts, the w.a.n.g family came to a consensus. If they were to succeed in their plan, they were never going to agree to w.a.n.g Yang's request to become their relatives again in the future. w.a.n.g Yang had abandoned them in their time of need. There was no way they were going to allow w.a.n.g Yang to acknowledge them as relatives once they made a name for themselves.

Since w.a.n.g Yang was drawing lines with them now, there was nothing wrong in them doing the same toward him. There would eventually come a day when w.a.n.g Yang would regret his decision. As for the money that the w.a.n.g family had wasted on protecting w.a.n.g Yang, they would simply treat it as though they had spent the money feeding dogs or an ingrate.

It went without saying that w.a.n.g Yang's betrayal led to Father w.a.n.g's downfall in the w.a.n.g family. The w.a.n.g family turned against him, and even Father w.a.n.g's brothers treated him with that att.i.tude too. w.a.n.g Yang had gotten all the benefits but had spent the w.a.n.g family's money and resources while clinging on to his uncle, Zhu Chengqi. Not only was he not grateful toward the w.a.n.g family, but he was not even willing to acknowledge his poor relatives now that he had made a fortune for himself. He was an ingrate!

Father w.a.n.g was the one who had raised such an unfilial son. It was entirely Father w.a.n.g's fault that the w.a.n.g family had taken such a great hit this time. As such, Father w.a.n.g had better not even dream of becoming the head of the household. It was good enough that they were willing to overlook how they had suffered a loss. Because of this, Father w.a.n.g had lost all rights to partic.i.p.ate in any family discussions in the future.

Since w.a.n.g Yang refused to acknowledge them, they would keep their distance too.
