One Summer Evening Part 54

That last statement brought an unexpected smile to her lips.

"Somehow your logic escapes me."

Austin returned her smile, with one whose potency completely obliterated

her defenses, leaving her suddenly at his mercy.

As if he sensed that, he cleared his throat, then said, "Let's get out of here. Time's wasting."

Cassie sat up with a start when she felt the car come to a stop. Had she

fallen asleep?

Blinking, she turned toward the driver's seat. "Where are we?"

Even though she couldn't see Austin looking at her in the dark, she knew

he was. She could feel the intensity of those eyes, as if they were

caressing her.

"My farm."

Cassie blinked, while her pulse jumped.

"Don't start fretting." Austin's voice was as caressing as his eyes.

"We won't stay long. Besides, I make a mean cup of cappuccino, which is

guaranteed to perk up tired bodies." "How can I resist that?" she asked,

her mouth softening into a smile.

"You can't," he muttered, jerking open the door to the sound of chirping crickets that couldn't outdo her hammering heart.

They remained quiet as they walked toward the porch, the moon their only

guide.

Cassie felt. sweat settle into every bend in her body. The sun had lost its power, but not its steam. And the humidity was cloying. She tried to suck the thick air in and out of her lungs, but it was almost impossible.

Letting her eyes drift, she peered up at the huge oak trees draped with moss that surrounded the frame house. In the distance, she heard a horse snort, then whinny.

"Do you actually own this place?" she asked, stepping onto the porch and watching as he unlocked the door.

"Yep," he said, indicating that she should go in.

Cassie walked into a small living room that was suffocatingly hot, hotter than outdoors. Or maybe it was her body temperature that was elevated, because Austin was standing next to her, close enough for her to smell the sweat on his body along with his cologne.

The mixture was heady, and she found herself unable to move, standing

like a mute, staring up at him.

He reciprocated her stare with those hungry eyes. The moment was highly charged even before he reached for her and pulled her against his chest.

"Austin, please," she whimpered, her arms wedged between them.

"Please what? Kiss you until you can't breathe?"

His lips ground into hers, shoving further words down her throat.

Moaning, she wrapped her arms around his neck and revelled in the feel

and taste of him.

His moist, searing lips seemed to cling forever, sucking every last

ounce of resistance from her body as he backed her down the hall into the bedroom.

But before they fell onto the bed, clothes were discarded, thrown down

at will.

Together, they fell naked onto the bed, where he took control, turning

her to face him, his lips burning across hers again, then down her neck,

to her breasts.

"Oh, Austin." Her breathless words came out sounding like a prayer of thanksgiving, instead of a prayer for forgiveness.

His tongue, as wet and hot as his lips, frantically circled her nipples, leaving them hard and aching.

"Touch me," he urged, reaching for her hand and placing it on him. She moaned when his erection became thick under the clammy pressure sheexerted. She massaged the flesh around and under until she felt a dropof moisture on one finger. Her hand stilled, and for a moment she wastempted to bring that finger to her lips and taste him.

Austin uttered a guttural groan, as though he could read her thoughts.

"You have no idea what you're doing to me."

"Please, I want you inside me. Now." Her words came out sounding broken

and desperate.

As if giving in to his own desperation, he nudged her lips apart again

with his. While kissing her, he cupped one cheek of her buttocks and swung that leg over his thighs, giving him easy access to her.

And as he'd done before, in the car, he eased two fingers inside her.

Cassie bucked, then begged, "I want you!"

Without taking his eyes off her damp face, he thrust inside her, and

instantaneously flesh pounded against flesh until their cries filled theair, leaving them both wet with sweat and too spent to move.

"Did he ever make you feel like this?" Cassie stiffened in his arms.

For a moment Austin didn't think she was going to answer him. They had finally fallen asleep after endless hours of making soundless love. He had lost count of the times he'd taken her on top, on the bottom, from behind.

Yet he could take her again right now. Just the thought made his penis

rise to the task.

"No, never," she said in response to his question. Austin pulled back so that he could see her face, the moonlight allowing him that privilege.

"You mean he never made you come?"

Her sharp intake of breath sounded like a cannon shot in the quiet.

"Only one ... man has accomplished that."

"Are you saying what I think you are?"

"Yes," she whispered with vulnerable sincerity. "Dammit, Cassie, what

kind of man were you married to?"

"A monster, though he never physically abused me or Tyler."

Austin held her close for a long moment, while their hearts beat as one.How could he ever let her go now that he'd been with her again? Hell, hehadn't wanted to let her go after that first time. He had known thatthen, only he wouldn't, couldn't, admit it.

"Will you level with me? Will you tell me what that sorry sack of shitdid that sent you into hiding for five years?"

"It's an ugly tale."
