He consoled her, “The truth is, you’re right, Qin Chu really might still be alive. After all, he’s a smart guy, maybe he predicted that Huo Siqian would do something like this, and as a precaution, decided not to get on the plane.”
“Rick said… he brought Qin Chu here himself and watched him get onto the plane…” Huo Mian said, her voice soft and barely audible.
“Then maybe he got off the plane after Rick left, you never know.”
Huo Mian: “…”
After searching for an entire day, the team leader walked up to the deck towards sundown, his entire body soaked with water. He said, “Mr. Su, let’s call it a day, it’s getting dark. The waves are really strong at night, and there are undercurrents. We won’t be able to do anything anyways.”
“Okay…” Su Yu nodded, and the team leader continued, “Mr. Su, allow me to say something that you might not like to hear.”
Upon hearing this, Su Yu didn’t respond; Huo Mian, on the other hand, tilted her head and looked at the team leader.
“The waters here are deep and dangerous, and there’s a constant undercurrent. Even an elephant would disappear as soon as it falls into these waters, let alone a tiny human being. This is the living version of a needle in a haystack – the ocean isn’t like a lake or river, where the perimeters aren’t as broad. Plus, it’s been a while, maybe the victim’s body was already eaten by fish or sharks. Chances of finding anything here are slim to none. I know you have money, but I don’t see the point of the search…”
Upon hearing what the team leader said, Huo Mian’s expression turned pale white.
Su Yu snapped angrily, “What’s with the bull c.r.a.p? I have money, just do what I say and keep going tomorrow…”
“Okay then, you’re the boss…” the team leader said helplessly. Then, he turned around and walked away.
With a depressed expression on her face, Huo Mian looked at the vast ocean, glowing under the setting sun.
“Su Yu…”
“Yeah?”
“Let’s go…”
“It’s okay, Huo Mian, we have money and time. We’ll keep looking, as long as you don’t give up.”
“Let’s go, the team leader was right. There’s no point.”
“So you’re saying that… you think Qin Chu’s…”
“I know Qin Chu’s still alive. One day, he’ll come looking for me.” Huo Mian’s tears flowed uncontrollably out of her eyes as she said this.
Su Yu walked up to her, hoping to hand her a tissue. However, Huo Mian suddenly lost consciousness, and he ran up to catch her in his arms.
“Huo Mian, wake up!” Su Yu screamed anxiously, scared out of wits.
The good news was, Su Yu was smart enough to bring a private doctor with them, since he knew Huo Mian was pregnant and might get sick.
On the private plane back to C City, the doctor walked up to Su Yu after examining Huo Mian.
“How is she?”
“Don’t worry, President Su, Miss Huo is fine. She’s just overly nervous and sustained too much emotional pressure, causing her to break down mentally. Plus, she’s in her first trimester, but she hasn’t been eating properly. She’ll be fine, just make sure she gets enough rest.”
After hearing what the doctor said, Su Yu nodded; he glanced over at Huo Mian’s pale face and felt a surge of guilt creep up his heart.
He thought she would be happy that he brought her out to sea. But know it seems like this trip was no more than another blow to her.
Huo Mian didn’t wake up until they arrived back at C City’s military hospital.
Zhixin, Jiang Xiaowei, Gao Ran, Zhu Lingling, and the others came as well, all worried to death about her.
Huo Mian slowly opened her eyes. “You guys are all here…”
Her voice was weak and feeble, and she didn’t seem to have much strength in her.
“Sis, you really scared me this time,” Zhixin tightened his hand around Huo Mian’s, and the latter forced a smile. “I’m fine, I’m just a little tired.”
“Mian, you’re freaking the h.e.l.l out of us… we’ve lost Mr. Qin already, we can’t lose you too…” Zhu Lingling was a straight-talker, and she broke into tears as soon as she said this.
