Chapter 379: The Dowries

Before Mrs. Lin stopped talking, Lin Jiaxing interrupted her directly and threw her a glare. Then he turned to Gu Chaoyan. “Chaoyan, live well with Lord Huai, and you don’t have to worry about anything. We are leaving now, and we will be here when you are getting married.”

Lin Jiaxing sounded both distant yet kind. The Lin Family once hurt Chaoyan because of Jiashu, and it had been their fault. Yet what was done was done, and they could not just ignore what happened. They still needed to support Chaoyan, but they should not ask her for favors. Lin Jiaxing knew this point well.

Only Mrs. Lin had no idea about that.

Having said the words, Lin Jiaxing left with Mrs. Lin.

Gu Chaoyan opened her lips and was about to say something, when they hurried off in the wagon. Gu Chaoyan did not manage to utter a word. Uncle must have done that for a reason.

Gu Chaoyan watched them leaving quietly.

In the wagon, Mrs. Gu was very displeased. “What were you doing? Chaoyan is marrying Lord Huai as the Princess Consort, that is an honor! It is not a difficult thing to let her speak for Jiashu, Jiashu is her cousin, and you are her uncle.”

“Shut up! It was your fault that Chaoyan was hurt, otherwise nothing like this would happen!” Lin Jiaxing bellowed.

“You are blaming me for this?” Mrs. Lin screamed. “I was doing that for Jiashu and you are blaming me for it? You did not stop me from doing that either, because you admitted that was the right thing! Now you are pus.h.i.+ng all the blame onto my head?!”

Lin Jiaxing looked embarra.s.sed. He did. Gu Chaoyan was not worth mentioning back then, and he did not want his only son to get wronged. That was why he did not protest, but soon after that he regretted what he had done. Why did he not look through the situation clearly?

If not for Chaoyan, Jiashu would not have survived. Chaoyan had saved Jiashu’s life. If not for her, Jiashu would have died! And he a.s.sumed that Jiashu was marrying her for no good. What was more, Chaoyan had never thought about this because she was next to Lord Huai.

Lin Jiaxing shook his head. He consoled Mrs. Lin, and then the wagon continued to head onwards.

After seeing the Lin Family, Gu Chaoyan went back to her Qiong Pavilion directly.

At the front yard.

Gu Ruxue was very displeased. Why did Lord Huai choose to marry Gu Chaoyan as the Princess Consort? She was the Phoenix Girl, and she should be dominating! And she had to be the Princess Consort too!

“Dad, what about my dowries? You promised that those in the storage would all be mine!” Gu Ruxue said with an unconvinced expression on her face. She had already started to imagine how glorious she would be when she got married with those dowries, but now she had nothing, and Gu Chaoyan had everything! No way!

Gu Zhenkang was embarra.s.sed too. When the news that Ruxue was marrying Lord Ling arrived, he thought that Mrs. Lin’s dowries should all be hers, but now... Lord Huai was asking about the dowries directly and he did not dare to do a thing.

“Don’t worry, Ruxue, let me ask Madame Gu.”
