Chapter 2659: Collapsing Bridge
I have appeared in the vast s.p.a.ce, so big that it would easily fit hundred Tyrant-level arenas, and this vast place is filled with the biggest formation I have ever seen.
The runes smaller than my nails are everywhere; there are millions and millions of them floating around as the formation connecting them has been broken.
Seeing the number of runes the formation had used, it must be a majestic formation.
I wish it had been complete; I would have really liked to see what kind of formation it was. Right now, it is a broken mess; even some parts that are readable seem incoherent without a complete picture.
There is a bridge made of white crystals that leads to the other side, where there seems to be a red door at door. From what I could see, the bridge looked fine, but there was one slight problem; the floating runes and broken formation.
The bridge is miles long, and there is a high chance that these broken formations might be reactive, considering these runes seemed to hold quite a power in them, among other things.
'Either I could move forward or go back,' I said to myself and took a step forward. Going back is an option, but who knows, the other door might also contain something like this or an even bigger danger, not to mention the waste of time.
The Grimms had already had about a day of lead over me, and I did not want to widen their lead any further.
My feet faintly touched the bridge as I walked. I did not bring too much pressure on it; who knows, it might collapse, and that would be a very bad thing. I could fly away over the bridge, but I fear it might induce some reaction if I do not walk on it.
If people could fly in this place, there wouldn't be this here.
A few seconds later, I came across the first set of flying runes and avoided them by walking around. I am quite thankful for the bridge being so big for my size; I would be easily able to avoid most of the obstacles.
If Grimms had chosen this way, I am sure they would have had lots of problems avoiding these tiny runes, which are everywhere.
As I walked, I was also studying these runes, not the formation since it is broken beyond belief, but these ruins themselves. I want to see what they are made of and, most importantly, whether they are useful to me and I could take them.
In just a minute, I have found the answer to both of my questions. I could take these runes, and there wouldn't be any reaction.
I have looked extremely carefully and saw these runes held no connection to each other or this place to create a reaction. They also did not have an aura strong enough to create any imbalance or spatial restrictions, which would stop me from taking them.
As for their usage, which is a little complicated considering these runes are made of things far higher than I have contact, and these ingredients had already been fused, and it had been tens of thousands of years, which is a good thing.
At their current level, I could take them and will take a few, but if I find something really useful at the end of my journey, I will take more than a few.
A few minutes pa.s.sed, and I felt like I had become an acrobat. I am not simply walking but jumping in some weird angels to move through the runes. It had been a while since I had done this, and even though I didn't want to admit it, I was having a lot of fun.
It had taken me twenty minutes to cross half of the bridge, which is quite a lot for such a distance. On the mainland, I would have needed just a few seconds to cross this distance.
Hun!
A few more minutes pa.s.sed, and I had crossed some distance when suddenly, I felt some vibration under my feet before sheer horror appeared on my face.
Crack Crack CrackKhap Khap
Behind me, the cracks began to form rapidly; within a few seconds, they appeared under my feet before they kept spreading forward. If it had been just that, I would have managed, but the huge pieces of the bridge had begun to fall down before the entire began to collapse behind me rapidly.
The sudden change caught me off guard; I had seen the cracks on the bridge and avoided them, and seeing how minute force I was applying on the bridge, I thought I would be able to walk through the bridge without trouble, but it did not seem to be the came.
"f.u.c.k it!" I cursed as I saw the bridge collapsing and sprinted at full power as the boosts activated inside me.
I moved at a blurring speed, which I could barely control; this time, I did not avoid any runes and directly crashed through them. Thankfully, the runes did not react; they were just pushed away by the field I had created.
I reached close to the door, but there was one last hurdle before I reached the end. If the bridge hadn't been collapsing behind me, I would have waited for it to pa.s.s, as it is moving slowly over the bridge, but currently, I have no time.
Bam!
I directly crashed through the formation while hoping nothing would happen. Something had happened, something dangerous; I don't know what happened, but I felt a strong burst of energy hitting me; it was powerful enough to knock the air out of me.
Puh!
I vomited the blood as the energy had packed quite a powerful physical punch; if I had not had my defenses activated to the limit, it would have done much more than that, like knocking me down off the bridge.
That would have been extremely bad, considering the area outside the bridge is a no-fly zone; even with all my power, I would not be able to fly in it, and I don't know what would have awaited me down below.
I shook my mind of those thousand and focused on reaching the door and even increased my speed even more.
The bridge seemed to be chasing me, as normal bridges did not fall so fast as it is doing right now; even with this speed, I am barely maintaining a meter of an edge over it, and that was a shocking thing.
I just thought that when another sudden change occurred, the area in front of me began to collapse as well.
"s.h.i.+t!" I cursed loudly; I was just barely two seconds away at the base of the door when this happened. There is no way I could step on the collapsing bridge, as it would take me with it, but I could also not fly over it.
'Well, it seemed like I could only do that,' I said to myself and leaped. My leap was not high but was fast, and I did not fly. Instead, my feet would touch parts of collapsing bridge gently before I shoot to another piece at very high speed.
