Fingers intertwined together, they held their hands while sauntering along the small streets. They checked on the different stalls in peace. They weren't talking much, but there were smiles on their faces.
Once they reached an open s.p.a.ce which seemed like a park, they rested for a bit. They found a railing over the edge of the park. The grounds where they were standing were elevated. There were lots of stairs around them. The stopped along the edge of the railing to rest for a bit, and to admire the view.
Chen Linyun decided to crack a joke. "Hey, Xue Jinxu, I have a joke!" He started. He seemed to be in an extremely good and relaxed mood.
Xue Jinxu's brows arched. "Okay let's hear it." Never in her wildest dream would she have thought that Chen Linyun knew how to throw jokes.
"What do you call a fake noodle? [1]" He was grinning ear to ear. He was confident with his joke.
Xue Jinxu tilted her head, deep in thought. "What?"
He said. "An impasta." Then he laughed at his own joke.
Xue Jinxu pursed her lips. She was smiling because Chen Linyun was being cute. "Do you have more?" She asked.
"Mhmm… Let me see.. What do you call an elephant that does not matter?"
Xue Jinxu was smiling broadly. She was entertained by how 'game' Chen Linyun was. It was a different side of him. "What?"
"An irrelephant! Hahahahaha!"
"Pftt." Xue Jinxu was laughing silently. She was bowing her head, her fingertips caressing her forehead.
"Hey Jinxu dear, let your laugh out! Laugh out loud dear!" He was chuckling nonstop.
"Here's another one. What do you call cheese that isn't yours?"
"What?"
"NACHO Cheese! Hahahaha!" Chen Linyun wrapped his one arm around her shoulder while laughing hard. "You get it? Not yours – Nachos! Oh, how I love puns." Chen Linyun admitted.
Xue Jinxu laughed. "Dear, you are funnier than your jokes." She laughed heartily.
"Where did you get your dad jokes?" Xue Jinxu asked. The moment it left her mouth, she blushed. 'Dad jokes. Mhmm… Chen Linyun… A dad…' It was her first time thinking about it.
Chen Linyun also blushed at her comment. He did not know that the jokes were called dad jokes. It was just a term, but it was taken on a different light.
"Say, Chen Linyun, what's your take on… having children…?" She asked tentatively. They had not discussed this topic yet before.
His back tensed. It was the first time they had touched the topic. Xue Jinxu was observing his reaction.
"Don't you… don't you want to have children?" She asked while continuing their little stroll. She tugged their intertwined hands.
She had asked this because there were many couples who resorted to becoming d.i.n.k or dual income, no kids. She had no idea what Chen Linyun preferred.
"Well, I would be happy if we can have children of our own. I'd love to have a little Jinxu running around…" His face had turned tomato-red the way it used to.
Xue Jinxu smiled at his response. That was also what she wanted, "or a little Chen Linyun running around. Or both…" She wrapped her arms around his waist. It was a good dream – having children of their own.
Ever since she had reached the marrying age, her parents had been pus.h.i.+ng her to get married and to have children for the sake of the continuity of their bloodline. Now, it wasn't that pressing anymore, because she had been disowned by the Xue Family. What mattered most was what she really wanted.
"I don't know if we're ready, but I'd like to meet them soon." Xue Jinxu stared him down.
Chen Linyun gulped. He got nervous all of a sudden. It was fine if there was only the two of them, but he had not taken care of a child before. He got nervous, yet also excited. He looked at Xue Jinxu's tummy.
She gently laughed. She tapped his cheek ever so gently, lovingly. "Not yet, dear. I'll let you know." She captured his lips and kissed it tenderly. "Shall we go home and get to work? Hahaha." She laughed at the idea, and at Chen Linyun's face.
"Dear, we're not in a hurry, are we? Can we take it slow? I want to dote on you for a while longer. I want you for myself – only for myself, for the meantime." His eyes were full of solemnity. He lowered his head and kissed her pa.s.sionately. His hand slid to the greater part of her back caressing it dotingly.
After all, he had waited for five long years for her, and another half a year spent separated from each other. How about spending another five more years only with her, without compet.i.tion, without the little ones? They were still young anyway.
Not that he cared about the timing and all. He wanted it to come naturally. He simply wanted Xue Jinxu for himself, for now, and nothing else.
"How about another five more years without kids?" He had voiced out his opinion.
"That's long! No, make it sooner!" Xue Jinxu protested.
He sighed. He could not win against the wife. After all, what's his new motto again? Happy wife, happy life.
"Aren't you just bored?" Chen Linyun probed.
She smiled at him lovingly and rested her head on his shoulder. "Sometimes. But it has nothing to do with getting bored. I can find hobbies to occupy me if I want to."
She expressed her thoughts and feelings to him. "I agree, for now, let's dote on each other for a while longer. The kids will come in time. I love you so much dear." She was rubbing her head on his shoulder amorously. "But if it comes a lot sooner, the better." She smiled at him, trying to convince him.
Chen Linyun trapped his wife in a backhug. He kissed her shoulder that was exposed. She was wearing an off-shoulder dress. "What the wife wants, the wife gets. I look forward to meeting them too – our living legacy. They will be the testimony of our love." Xue Jinxu turned around to give her husband a slow, sensual and breathtaking kiss. It seemed that Chen Linyun gave in.
"Okay, let's get to work! I'm hopeful!" She grabbed his hand and walked away. Chen Linyun's face could not be any redder. He did a facepalm, while allowing the lady to drag him home.
