They gave the ticket to the cas.h.i.+er, allowing them to access their prize. The cas.h.i.+er staff gave them a polite smile and replied that accession was complete, a waiter came to their side and led them to a private room meant for couple who wanted privacy.
Coincidentally, it was like their first date as a couple but only more extravagant and romantic, since they are literally in the City of Love.
Exiting the bright and crowded place after they had their fun and fill with a delicious dinner, Ethan walked towards the parking lot to retrieve the car while Lillie waited by the park's gate. People were already leaving as it was already late, the lights began to turn off one by one.
Lillie sat on a bench as she waits. Then, her eyes flickered at her side and saw a hooded person sitting on a blanket where trinkets of different types were spread. She caught sight of a peculiar object sitting beside the other rusty ones.
Curiosity urge her to stand and take a look. Hearing footsteps nearing, the hooded figure rose their head and stare behind the dark hood.
The single lamp pose above them flickered on and off, sending an eerie feeling through any normal human being.
"Are you selling these?" Lillie asked in French.
"Oui." The gruff voice indicates that the person was a man.
Crouching to level his sitting position, Lillie picked the object she was eyeing. "How odd to find this thing out in the open so casually. You sure have guts to casually sprawl it together with these junks."
The man let out a rough laugh.
"You know your stuff, little girl. Say, how did you know what that thing is?"
"Surely, a s.h.i.+nigami [1] will not stoop so low as to sell his prized scythe to anyone with money?" Lillie's eyes turned red and aimed the rusty gun on the man's forehead.
"Well, well, if it isn't my little Birdie. How large are your wings now?" His hand reached out to pull his hood off and white hair fell from his shoulders.
Lillie was greeted with handsome face marred with a huge, vertical scar on his left eye that his fringes helped it cover.
His lips curled into a sly smirk, same colored eyes stared back at Lillie's red eyes that seemed to penetrate her soul.
"Long time no see, Junior sister."
"Death." Lillie quietly replied in acknowledgment. "Why were you following me?" She asked as she placed the rusty weapon back.
Death raised his hands in a mock surrender. His eyebrows furrowed as if he was wronged. "Now why would you a.s.sume that I'm following you?"
Lillie gave him a deadpanned look. "Last time I checked, Master forbid you from going out of the temple much less, the country."
"He already forgive me! I'm a free man again." Death pouted.
"Highly unlikely. Your failed mission caused master a lot of trouble. I doubt he has forgiven you so easily." Lillie crossed her arms.
"It was an accident!"
"Only an idiot would believe that."
"It's true! Those d.a.m.n Italian mobs tricked me!"
"So it wasn't an accident."
"Uurgh! There's no sense in arguing with you, isn't it?" He groaned and threw his hands up.
"I'm glad you understand." Lillie bluntly said. Death rolled his eyes, he's suppose to be her senior brother yet she treats him as if he's a little boy.
"It seems your eyes are sharp as always." His calloused hand gripped on the rusty weapon Lillie was holding a moment ago and inspect it.
"For a man who claimed to treasure his gun as much as his life, you aren't doing a good job in keeping it under good maintenance." Lillie blatantly reprimand. An invisible arrow shot right through Death's heart.
"I had it fixed many time! The rust just won't come off. And you know how much I hate it being reconstructed. This gun—"
"...has been with you since birth." Lillie cut him off by continuing what he was about to say—that she had already memorized even if it's read backwards.
Death was about to rebuke when a car's light flashed right in front of them.
Ethan came out of the car with a dark look.
Death's crimson eyes hardened, the air suddenly went eerie cold.
"Vermillion Dragon."
"Death."
Lillie stood in the middle with questions appearing on her head.
