As Ha Eun waited, a child approached her. She looked no older than 9 years old. She stared at her with a serious expression, which made Ha Eun feel uncomfortable.
"What do you want?" Ha Eun asked her.
"My gla.s.ses" she answered as she pointed at Ha Eun's feet. There were gla.s.ses right under the bench, behind her feet.
Ha Eun moved her feet and the little girl took them and placed it on her face. One of the lenses was broken while the other was scratched. She then noticed a scratch on the girl's face.
"What's that?" Ha Eun asked her.
"Nothing. Just got in a fight" she answered. Ha Eun was surprised by this. The girl looked so small and innocent.
"What happened?" Ha Eun asked. She wasn't really that interested to know what happened, but it felt like something she had to ask.
"This girl was making fun of me behind my back, and when I confronted her she slapped me, so I hit her in the no-no touch zone" the girl answered. Ha Eun didn't understand what 'no-no touch zone' meant. The little girl pointed at Ha Eun's b.r.e.a.s.t.s.
"Oh" Ha Eun was surprised "Well played" she said with a grin on her face.
"Yeah. Then her friends jumped me, hence my gla.s.ses" Ha Eun didn't know how to answer this. Her foster sister Bong Soo always got into fights. Ha Eun always told her to ignore the bullies, but that didn't do anything and just made the bullying worse but fighting back wasn't much help either.
If you beat them up they would just bring their parents and the one with better lawyers would always win.
"I don't know what to say kid. Those people are a**holes"
The little girl pointed at her "You swore" she said "My mom says it's bad to swear"
"Well, unlike you I'm an adult. So, I can do whatever the h.e.l.l I want" Ha Eun crossed her arms over her chest with a grin. The little girl liked Ha Eun, she thought she was funny.
"My name is Eun Ha" the little girl said as she reached out her hand towards Ha Eun.
They shook hands "I'm Ha Eun" Ha Eun answered "So tell me, child…where are your creators?"
Eun Ha looked at her confused "Do you mean, my parents?"
"Well, my mom's working and I don't know my dad" Eun Ha said. She didn't seem at all bothered by telling the truth. Ha Eun remembered how she hated saying she didn't know who her parents were.
Chang Wook arrived with two cones of ice cream "Who is this?" Chang Wook asked with a smile.
"This little creature right here is Eun Ha" Ha Eun said gesturing to Eun Ha. Chang Wook was surprised by how Ha Eun introduced the little girl but the little girl didn't seem to mind. She actually smiled.
"Here's your ice cream" Chang Wook was going to hand it to Ha Eun, but she raised her hand at him.
"Give it to the child" Ha Eun said.
"Oh. It's alright, it's yours after all" Eun Ha shook her head.
"Take it you little urchin" Ha Eun said sternly which made Eun Ha take the ice cream cone and start eating.
"Wow, you sure have a way with children" Chang Wook said with a chuckle. Eun Ha looked at Chang Wook then at Ha Eun.
"Unnie are you dating this ahjussi?" the little girl asked.
Chang Wook was shocked by the little girl's question "Hey, who the h.e.l.l's an ahjussi? I'm oppa…oppa"
The two girls started to laugh "Look who has a way with children now" Ha Eun said.
"Well, I'll get going. It was nice meeting you" Eun Ha said. As she turned to leave Ha Eun stood up and handed her a wad of money and her business card.
"Buy yourself new gla.s.ses" Ha Eun said. The little girl took the money and her business card confused but at the same time thankful.
"What's the business card for?" Eun Ha asked. Ha Eun got fl.u.s.tered.
"Do I have to spell everything out for you?" she asked angrily "If you need anything, just call me"
Eun Ha smiled and thanked Ha Eun. As she left, the girl was humming a tune that Ha Eun never thought she'd hear again. She sang the song at Chang Wook's parent's house as karaoke, and she sang that song to her foster sister Bong Soo, now she heard this little girl hum it.
"Hey!" Ha Eun yelled back at her. The girl turned around and she stared closely at her face. She couldn't be sure, but the nose and the lips, maybe even her jawline. It looked just like…
"What's your mother's name?" Ha Eun asked her.
The girl looked at her confused "Lee Bong Soo" she answered. Ha Eun widened her eyes. The little girl waved goodbye and continued on her way as she hummed the song. Ha Eun never thought she'd see Bong Soo again and she never planned on looking for her either, but somehow she met her sister's daughter.
No…there are other girls called Bong Soo and Lee is a common last name. But if it really is Bong Soo, she ended up taking her last name and calling her daughter... Although the names mean different things, it sounds just like her name but inverted. That thought made Ha Eun sad.
"What's wrong?" Chang Wook asked Ha Eun. She shook her head.
"Let's go back to work" she told him.
Chang Wook remembered that Bong Soo was Ha Eun's foster sister's name, who moved to Seoul when she was just 13. Could the little girl by chance be her foster sister's daughter? By the look in Ha Eun's face, he could tell that it was a possibility.
Chang Wook pointed his ice cream cone at Ha Eun and smudged some ice cream on her face.
"What was that for?!" she yelled.
"You were making a face" he told her and quickly licked the ice cream off her cheek. Ha Eun widened her eyes in surprise.
"Stop making faces and let's enjoy the rest of our date" he told her as he continued walking forward and eating his ice cream.
