…..
26 years ago. It was a cloudy and rainy day.
Two women were in an office talking. One had her hair up in a tight bun. She had a very professional look. The other woman had her hair loose and was holding back tears.
"It's a very difficult process. I know" the woman in the bun said "If you want to back out, it's not too late"
The woman holding back tears shook her head "This is for the best" she said.
"Sign here and here, and you will be all done"
When given the pen and paper the crying woman hesitated to answer. The woman in the bun had seen this happen many times before. Women who didn't want to give away the life they brought to this world, but still having to do so because of reasons beyond their control.
"Will you make sure she gets in a good home?" the crying woman asked.
"I will" she said.
"Can I see her one last time?"
The woman in the bun looked outside at a man and gestured for him to come inside. In his arms he held an infant child. He placed her I the woman's arms and she started to coo at the baby.
The baby laughed but as soon as the woman gave the baby back to the man, the baby started to cry. Her baby's crying saddened her. The woman in the bun went to hug her. After a while of crying they let go of each other and the papers were finally signed.
"With this, you will maintain your animosity and have no contact with the child" the professional woman said. They both bowed and as the saddened woman made her way out of the office, she saw her baby disappear into another room.
"Goodbye. Ha Eun"
….
12 years later
"Ha Eun, slow down!" Bong Soo yelled.
"We're going to be late for school" Ha Eun yelled back.
She and Bong Soo are foster sisters. They lived in different orphanages, jumping from home to home. Never staying in one place for very long. That was until they were adopted by a happy couple. They've been living with them for 4 years now, and although the couple are not the best parents, the two girls have each other, and that's the closest thing they've had to a home in a long time.
"Ow!" Bong Soo yelled. Ha Eun turned around and ran back to her sister. She was on the ground, putting pressure on her left leg.
"Did dad hurt you last night?" Ha Eun asked her. How did she not know about this.
"He's not our dad. Anyways, better me than you" Bong Soo answered "He forgot you had club activities today" she smiled at her but Ha Eun knew how harsh he treated Bong Soo compared to her.
"I'll quit the club" Ha Eun said. Bong Soo got up with her help, then messed up Ha Eun's hair.
"You love singing. Don't give up on it because of me. If you don't become famous I will hate myself. Do you want me to hate myself?" Bong Soo asked her. Ha Eun shook her head "Then stay on the club"
The two walked slowly to school.
Once inside the school it was practically empty. Most of the students were already in their cla.s.srooms waiting for cla.s.s to start.
Ha Eun and Bong Soo planned to get to cla.s.s without any disturbances, but three uppercla.s.smen suddenly called out to them.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't the orphan twins" one of them said with a smile. Bong Soo had a look of anger on her face. Ha Eun tried to calm her down, patting her on the back.
"Ignore them. They don't know anything" she told her.
Bong Soo turned around "Sorry Eun, I suddenly don't feel like going to cla.s.s. Go on without me." she said.
"Hey, where's orphan number two going?" one of the guys asked.
"Maybe going to find her parents" the leader said a smug look on his face. The guys laughed "Besides, we have orphan number one to play with"
Bong Soo clenched her fists. She turned around to look at them. Ha Eun knew what she was planning to do, but she didn't have enough time to stop her. Bong Soo quickly tackled the leader. pinning him down on the ground and started beating him with all her might. The two guys quickly pulled her off him.
Ha Eun, worried about Bong Soo. She quickly hit one of the guys holding Bong Soo on the head with her bag. He fell to the ground in pain which gave Bong Soo the opportunity to beat up the other guy that was holding her.
The leader hurried towards Bong Soo, planning on hitting her but Ha Eun threw her bag to his feet which made him fall head first. Once he was on the ground Bong Soo hit him in the stomach as hard as she could, but with the leg that their father injured.
Ha Eun could see the pain in Bong Soo's face but her anger was stronger than her pain. The leader was gasping for air and begged her to stop.
"If you make fun of me or my sister again; next time I won't be so nice" Bong Soo said. She picked Ha Eun's bag and handed it to her.
"If the princ.i.p.al asks, you didn't help. It was all me" Bong Soo told her "He won't believe you if you said you helped me anyways" Bong Soo patted Ha Eun on the head and left the school.
Ha Eun worried about her. Bong Soo wasn't the most well-behaved girl she's met. She has seen her smoke and drink alcohol. She doesn't have any friends her own age. They are all older and delinquents. She worries that Bong Soo will go down the wrong path.
Outside of school Bong Soo went down some dark allies, jumped over fences and arrived at a beaten down, old bar. Hardly anyone goes there, and the ones who do are called delinquents by today's society.
"Bong!" the bartender waved at her. He was a high school student, working there part-time.
"Bong-Bong is here?" another guy asked. He was farther back, by the pool table.
"Hey!" another one waved at her. Other guys waved at Bong Soo. All of them were high school students. They either piercings, dyed their hair different colors or had hairstyles that made them look intimidating.
"Aren't you supposed to be in school?" one of the guys asked.
