Chapter 130 - The Matriarch

The birds were chirping loudly. Shao Yan stirred in her sleep. Her eyelids moved once, and then twice. Slowly, she could register the sun rays that seep through her curtains.

'Ah! I guess the rain last night has stopped now, the birds are so noisy!' she grumbled inwardly.

Shao Yan tried to turn to her side, to snuggle deeper into her pillow, but she felt constricted. She tensed immediately; but gradually relaxed when she remembered him. She felt his soft breathing on her ear and neck, while a pair of arms were holding her waist so intimately, and her leg was linked with another.

Shao Yan tilted her head slightly to see Li Xiqing was sleeping soundly while spooning her from behind.

"Xiqing," she whispered softly, while trying to nudge the giant bear.

Li Xiqing was sleeping so deep, he did not even moved a glitch. Shao Yan slowly escaped her hands from his captive, and decided to try again.

"Xiqing, wake up, we have lunch appointment," she called him again while nudging her body onto him.

Li Xiqing moved a little, responding to her call, "En, five minutes, let me hold you a while." He snuggled deep into her neck, and then started to fall asleep again, "I couldn't sleep last night, I was missing you."

Shao Yan gave a soft sigh before she relented at his puppy plead, 'Fine, five minutes, I will really start counting now,' she thought to herself as she snuggled closer to him.

"Stop pouting already!" Shao Yan poked his cheek for the second time.

Li Xiqing was standing in front of her tall size mirror while working on his tie. Both of his eyebrows were scrunched and he pursed his lips, trying to not look amused at her poking.

"I have told you, my sleep was not sound too, I missed you too," she was standing next to him, poking into his arm, "Xiqing~".

Li Xiqing glanced at her from the mirror reflection, his eyes glinted playfully, while trying to act stern and petty, "Oh yeah? I came in so noisily, and even hugged you while sleeping, but you didn't stir at all. I thought someone told me before that she was a light sleeper. I wonder who that woman was? It was not you? So I slept with another woman?" he sulkily replied her.

Shao Yan tried so hard not to burst into chuckles. This man decided to act childish now of all time. This whole 'dramatic' scene happened because she told him this morning that her sleep was so comfortable, and that she missed her bed so much. The stingy man then suddenly decided to sulk and pout at her reply. This big, giant teddy bear!

As she was ready to say more to appease him, Li Xiqing suddenly turned around, and hugged her waist. He brought Shao Yan close to him, "I won't sulk anymore, but, wife, I'll show you what 'miss' actually means tonight!" he slowly grinned at her and then he kissed her cheek loudly.

Li Xiqing let Shao Yan go and started to walk out of the bedroom; leaving a dumbfounded Shao Yan with a lost expression. Her hand was cupping her cheek, right on the spot where he kissed her earlier, 'What was going on? This man is like a storm, just come and go as he pleases.'

When they arrived in front of the vegetarian restaurant, Li Xiqing found a place to park right away. The couple got out of the car, and walked inside the restaurant hand in hand.

Shao Yan spotted Grandma Wu right away, and she hastened her pace, dragging Li Xiqing along with her. Grandma Wu saw Shao Yan was about to rush to her, she was about to stand up and scold the child to slow down. But before she could do anything, she saw the tall man that her granddaughter drag along already do something.

Li Xiqing held her hand back, and then he circled his hand around her waist, "Don't run. No need to rush. Grandma has already seen you, just walk slowly, or you'll be kissing the floor soon." He then flicked her forehead lightly.

Shao Yan smiled sheepishly, and then she chuckled lightly, "Oh no. What to do, Xiqing, I'm so nervous now." She grabbed hold of Li Xiqing's hand and lightly squeezed it, he could feel her skin has turned cold.

"Don't worry, it will be just fine. Trust me, okay?" He ran his hand to rub her back gently, trying to calm her down, "Hubby is here for anything," and then he winked at her.

ShaoYan burst out in laughs, her body felt more relaxed after the short humor, and she started to walk forward more calmly now.

Grandma Wu had come today along with Risa. Wrapped elegantly in dark purple velvet Qipao, Grandma looked so regal like a queen when the golden threads around her collar glittered slightly as she moved to straighten up her sitting posture.

As Shao Yan and Li Xiqing walked closer, Risa stood up and moved to stand behind Grandma Wu while tidying Grandma's golden beige shawl that she had wrapped around her shoulder.

Risa herself had put on a simple black dress that fell elegantly to her knees. She let her long hair framed loosely around her face and her back, creating a gothic scent of beautiful Oriental doll.

When she caught Shao Yan was looking at her direction and flashed her a smile; Risa softened her feature a little, and returned her with a little nod, and then she slowly smiled.

Shao Yan finally stood in front of Grandma Wu. She let go off Li Xiqing's hand and with both hands extended forward, she quickly wrapped Grandma into a gentle, tight hug.

"I miss you, Grandma," Shao Yan said softly. Grandma Wu nodded at her words, as she patted Shao Yan on her back gently, "En, good girl. Grandma is here now."

Shao Yan squeezed the frail old lady a little, before she let go off her hug. She turned around and faced Li Xiqing with a cheerful smile. And then Shao Yan circled her hand around Li Xiqing's arm and said, "Grandma, this is Li Xiqing. My boyfriend."
