Chapter 31.3: Bristling With Anger
Not to speak of his apt.i.tude, Shen Lang was a greedy and vain fellow. He was kicked out of the Xu Family House, accused of molesting their female servants and pus.h.i.+ng himself on her.
And what was more daunting and shameless was that he dared enter the Count's Palace holding with a G.o.d-awful reputation.
Is there any other man more shameless and vain in this world than him?
There is none.
Despite Shen Lang becoming the young master of the Count's Palace through marriage, Jin Cheng should bow before him and respect his authority… but.. he could not… he could not restrain the aura of his contempt and poisonous hostility.
He would do his utmost best to trouble and give Shen Lang a h.e.l.lish life—all else be d.a.m.ned!
"Who are you? Why did you stop me? Can I not enter?" Shen Lang questioned, brows raised.
Looking at the pools of Shen Lang's crystalline and charming eyes, Jin Cheng burst out in anger; it churned within, hungry for destruction.
This face… how beautifully charming and enviousness rose from within.
Had Shen Lang not been labeled a fool, he would be the sort of man that made women stop their tracks only to gaze at his endearing and alluring features as if molded by the heaven meant to enchant and leave the world breathless.
Jin Cheng scoffed and coldly said, "Of course you can enter, but what's in the carriage? It is required that I check it!"
Da Sha was a heavy young man by nature. A first glance at the carriage would give way the indication that Shen Lang was carrying heavy loads of items, possibly.
Jin Cheng went forward and opened the carriage's curtain and saw a dying man leaking blood around his teeth and over those freshly cold lips. Red even stained his body whole.
"Shen Lang, how daring you are," Jin Cheng pursed his lips. "Though it is true that you are now a master of the Count's Palace, what right do you have to bring people here so casually?! Is this your backyard?!"
To a certain extent, Jin Cheng was right. His status as the son-in-law was only higher than that of a slave. At most, he would be a minor master.
Shen Lang wielded no absolute power to bring outsiders inside the Count's Palace freely.
"Throw out this man of unknown origin and do not let him in," Jin Cheng ordered.
Suddenly, two warriors came forward, ready to obey Jin Cheng's commands.
Shen Lang looked at Da Sha. He was dying, breath weakened. He needed immediate treatment otherwise he would die at any moment.
"Who dares?" Shen Lang gritted his teeth and pulled out a knife. "Whoever dares to touch him, I'll make sure to stomp you down myself."
No one moved. They stood stiffly still.
Shen Lang ordered the two warriors behind him. "Take the wounded inside."
The two knights who followed Shen Lang throughout the day looked at one another in a flurry of confusion — unsure what to do. They did not know who they should listen to. Jin Cheng was their commanding officer.
Jin Cheng coldly said, "Shen Lang, you are not the master of the Count's Palace and you've no authority to command the knights. They are under me. What are you waiting for? Why haven't you thrown him out yet?"
Shen Lang looked at Jin Cheng for a long time.
"Hmmm… I see," Shen Lang nodded. "Alright, I'll just take my brother to Xuanwu City and have his wounds treated there."
He sat back on the carriage and turned around, intent on treating Da Sha by hook or by crook.
At this time, Count Jin and Jin Mulan arrived.
Jin Cheng immediately bowed and respectfully said, "Master, Miss, the young master wished to take a stranger of unknown origin inside the Count's Palace. We do not know if the stranger holds wicked thoughts and is also not in line with the rules."
Count Jin frowned. "Shen Lang, what's the matter?"
Shen Lang did not complain, only stating what needed to be said. "This is my only friend lying there. His life is in danger. If he cannot come inside the Count's Palace for treatment then I will go to the city instead."
Shen Lang knew Da Sha would need many medicinal herbs to cure his injuries. Only the Count's Palace would hold complete collection.
"Go inside and bring him to Doctor An. It is important that we save people." Count Jin said gently after hearing Shen Lang's reasoning.
"Let me…" Jin Mulan said softly. She walked to the carriage and lifted the stretcher with the help of Shen Lang and walked towards their home.
Shen Lang's heart thumped. He was touched.
Somehow, she looked more beautiful than usual. She was beautiful, deep down to her soul.
Jin Mulan apologized for her people's misconduct through action.
He could read it in her eyes.
'I'm sorry, husband, for wronging you.'
At this time, Jin Cheng interjected and said, "Miss, he really broke the rules. How can he bring outsiders into the Count's Palace casually? It will only bring hidden danger and threats to our security. He even threatened us with a knife! This is bad behavior, Miss."
Jin Mulan sighed and put Da Sha down.
Her cold eyes were sharp and beautiful.
