The woman's milky white skin made her appear to be glowing as she crossed the room, her gaze searching for something. She even squinted a little; the low lights of the place seemed to hurt her eyes. She looked around for a while before turning in my direction. As she did, our gazes met and her face lit up into the brightest of smiles as she approached me. She was an angel.
"Matt?" she asked me uncertainly and my ears were a.s.sailed with the melodious sound of her voice. "Are you Matt?" she asked again as she searched my face and I snapped out of my trance.
"No," I answered tersely without meaning to and the angel stepped back.
"I-I'm sorry," she whispered as she turned away and I regretted my action instantly.
I found myself helplessly watching her walk back to the door when the same door opened and Jane stepped in.
"Big Sis!" she cried as she embraced the angel and I frowned.
"Ya! Jane Choi, your phone was out of reach!" the angel complained and Matt's fiancée looked apologetic.

"My battery died! That's why I waited for you outside."
"Oh well, I can't find your fiancé. You said he is the most handsome man inside this place," the angel said as she turned around once more and our eyes met again and she pouted. "That guy said he's not him. I think you're being denied," I heard her tell Jane softly who chuckled.
"He's not Matt, Big Sis," Jane answered as she guided the angel towards me. "Yesha, this is Adam Kingsley, Matt's best friend. Adam, this is my sister, Yesha Choi."
"h.e.l.lo," the angel said as she held out her hand for a shake, but before I took it, Jane slapped the angel's offered hand away.
"Don't touch him, he's allergic to poor people," she said jokingly and I watched as the angel's eyes widened.
"Oh, he's that Adam Kingsley," she said and my eyes narrowed.
I hated that kind of statement, when people recognized my name and would suddenly act differently from what they originally showed. My heart hurt. I was up for another disappointment, I thought just as the beauty spoke again.
"He's the jacka.s.s you've been telling me about," the angel said and it was my turn to look surprised.
Jacka.s.s?
I turned my attention back to Jane who was trying hard not to laugh out loud with my brows raised.
"Well, you were very mean to me before," she argued in between laughter and I sighed and glanced back at the angel but she was no longer looking at me.
"Where's Matt then?" the angel, Yesha asked as Matt looked at them and waved.
"Yo! Big Sis," my best friend called as he walked towards us.
He and the angel hugged each other like long lost friends and I frowned again.
"You look totally different from your picture on skype that I didn't recognize you," Yesha said as she laughed and glanced at me. "I thought he was you."
"Ha! I'm more handsome you know," Matt countered good-naturedly and they both laughed.
"Well, brother-in-law, even if he's more handsome than you, you're sure a lot nicer than him," Yesha stated as she rolled her eyes heavenwards making the others laugh and I found myself chuckling too in spite feeling that I was somewhat insulted by that remark.
We all eventually sat down together back on the seat I've vacated a while ago and spent an hour listening to them talk. I couldn't understand everything they were talking about though as my attention was focused only on the angel, noting how she talked, how she covered her mouth with her hand when she laughed and how her eyes sparkled when she told a story with that animated face of hers. She was truly beautiful.
"Ah, it's getting late. I still have to pick up the rest of my stuff at the airport tomorrow," Yesha said as she stood up. "Where's the rest room?" she asked and Jane volunteered to go with her.
Watching the sisters go, I was startled when Matt suddenly poked my side and I yelped. "What was that for?"
"You looked like you've been struck. I saw you watching Yesha a lot," my best friend laughed at me and I scowled.
"Well, he's a beauty. I think it's normal for me to stare right?"
"Well, Jane already told me that her sister's a beauty, but I was still surprised when I saw her. She's way better looking than in the picture," Matt continued as he drank from his gla.s.s. "Honestly, though, are you interested in her?" he asked softly after a fas.h.i.+on and I shook my head.
"She may be very beautiful, but you already know my requirement right?" I countered his question and Matt sighed.
"Oh, yes. You'd not date anyone who's not as rich if not richer than you," he said and I repeated those words in my head as if they were my mantra.
"Well, I think that's good," Matt suddenly added which confused me.
"What's good? That I want to marry someone rich?" I asked and my best friend shook his head.
"I'm saying that it's a good thing that you're not interested in her."
I knew I already expressed that I was not attracted to the angel. But hearing the words from Matt's mouth didn't sit well with me.
"Why do you say so?" I queried and immediately wish that I hadn't upon hearing the answer.
"Oh, Yesha has a lover back in Tokyo. It's a good thing to know that you'll leave her alone…"
"Lover?" I asked with a frown.
The aching in my chest heightened and I didn't notice that I had tightened my grip on the gla.s.s of beer in my hand. Knowing this information sent my mind reeling once more, the predator within me taking it as a challenge, and once again, my mind's filled with ideas and plans that were not only scary – they were most certainly twisted and I smirked.
