Chapter 203: The Empathetic Mother

When she saw her daughter holding her husband’s hand when they came back, Su Xiuling gave Yun Zhibin a satisfied look.

“I’ll make breakfast, mom,” Yun Xiangxiang changed and went into the kitchen after telling her mother that.

Since Yun Xiangxiang’s parents’ arrival, w.a.n.g Yong had been waiting for Yun Xiangxiang to call him. When she didn’t, he came and rang the bell, only to find that Yun Xiangxiang had already started.

“Give me a hand, Brother Yong. Let’s make some Beijing specials for my parents,” Yun Xiangxiang spoke to avoid embarra.s.sing w.a.n.g Yong.

Yun Xiangxiang stepped up her game with a pro gourmet by her side. A balanced, delicious breakfast was quickly prepared.

Yun Xiangxiang called Song Mian after breakfast. She told him her parents wanted to see him and asked him over for lunch.

Since her daughter was a public figure, Su Xiuling couldn’t buy groceries together with Yun Xiangxiang. To show sincerity, Yun Xiangxiang asked w.a.n.g Yong to take Yun Zhibin and Yun Lin out.

Su Xiuling started having a heart-to-heart session with Yun Xiangxiang after handing Yun Ting, who had his belly filled and diapers changed, to Song Qian and Coco. “I have nothing to do anyway, so I want to know how you two are getting along. What stage are you at now? What kind of a person is he, and his personality. We don’t want to be an inhospitable host.

“He’s a doctor. His family’s been in medicine for generations. He’s great at both Western and Chinese medicine…” Yun Xiangxiang couldn’t stop once she talked about Song Mian. Stars lit up in her eyes.

The sweet love was plain as day on her face as she regaled Su Xiuling with stories of her time together with Song Mian. She also confessed about meeting Song Mian’s father, a nice gentleman who adored her.

She only left Song Mian’s background out. She didn’t want her parents to look at him the wrong way. She hoped her parents would think nothing of it after they knew him.

Su Xiuling listened carefully, only asking occasionally. She could see her daughter caring about this man more than she thought. But listening to how they were getting along, Su Xiuling thought Song Mian was a decent kid.

Better than Yun Zhibin at least. He never served her all these years.

Aside from the time she was pregnant with Yun Xiangxiang and Yun Lin, Yun Zhibin never woke early to make breakfast for her!

She made a mental note on this, but she still clasped her daughter with a smile, “I can see he’s an excellent person who’s attentive, responsible, and capable. No wonder my daughter is captivated.”

Nothing made Yun Xiangxiang happier than her parents acknowledging her beloved. She leaned on Su Xiuling’s shoulder like a little girl, “Nonsense! I captivated him first. He’s the one who came after me nonstop.”

Su Xiuling chuckled. “Cheeky girl. I want my kids to be happy too. Your father and I can only be by your side for a fraction of your time. Your husband will be with you for the rest of it.”

Su Xiuling caressed her daughter’s hair gently. She spoke affectionately and gently, “We will be happy for you if you meet someone who protects you and reciprocates your love.”

“Mom, you’re the best mom in the world,” Yun Xiangxiang pecked Su Xiuling’s cheek.

“Don’t try to trick me,” Su Xiuling poked her daughter’s forehead. “I’m not against you dating. I’m not an overly conservative person. But you’re still a student, so I hope you’ll keep away from anything that will get in the way of that.”

Yun Xiangxiang’s face turned scarlet, “Mom, we didn’t… I was drunk last night. Last time that happened, we almost… If he wanted to do something to me, he didn’t have to wait until yesterday.”

Yun Xiangxiang was still embarra.s.sed when she talked about this with her mother.

She forced herself on Song Mian first. A drunk person would let slip their insecurities and fear themselves.

Every second together with Song Mian had Yun Xiangxiang feeling she was dreaming. She was scared that everything was unreal, so she…

“It’s fine as long as you understand. Your father and I won’t get in your way,” Su Xiuling was open about it.

She didn’t request anything from Yun Xiangxiang, but Yun Xiangxiang still felt guilty.

“Mom. I love both him and myself. I never wanted to be an iron lady, but I will never give up on my career,” Yun Xiangxiang guaranteed seriously.

For Yun Xiangxiang, a woman without a career would be incomplete. Tending to both her career and family would be a difficult task. If they were to give up either one, there would be an unfillable void in her heart.

“Alright, our talk ends here. Don’t hide anything from us from now on. Talk to me in private if you don’t like your father’s explosive temper and traditionalism,” Su Xiuling guided her kindly.

Yun Xiangxiang nodded quickly, “I’ll tell you everything from now on, mom. You just know me so well.”

Poor Yun Xiangxiang didn’t know that she had just fallen for her mother’s silver tongue. She talked her way to Yun Xiangxiang’s heart and clasped it just like that.

“Let’s go see Yun Ting. He knows a lot of words now. Calls for his sister every day,” Su Xiuling took her daughter to look for her son.

Yun Ting was blinking at Song Qian with his big, adorable eyes. Song Qian’s heart melted. She gave him a lollipop.

“I couldn’t help it, Aunt Su. He was looking at me with those puppy eyes. I couldn’t take it,” Song Qian explained quickly when she saw Su Xiuling. “Don’t worry, Aunt Su. My lollipop is custom made. No additives in there. It’s all natural plant sugar.”

“It’s fine. With how he looks like now, n.o.body can resist those eyes,” Su Xiuling consoled Song Qian with a smile.

“My little brother is getting cuter. I love you so much,” Yun Xiangxiang hugged little Yun Ting.

“Sis sis,” Yun Ting stuck the lollipop he got from Song Qian on Yun Xiangxiang’s lips.

His eyes were beautiful. They were dark, clear, and big. He even had long eyelashes. He could melt someone with his unblinking gaze. n.o.body could refuse his requests.

Yun Xiangxiang didn’t want Yun Ting, whose teeth were growing, to take any sugar. Even if Song Qian’s sugar was harmless. She followed her brother’s beckon and took the lollipop in her mouth.

“It’s sweet,” Yun Xiangxiang felt sweet to her bones.

Yun Ting kissed his sister’s face. He clapped his little hands together. “Sweet!”
