Chapter 120 - Ambergris

Chapter 120: Ambergris

Her previous scripts were all modern films. There wasn’t much research on Yun Xiangxiang’s part.

The script for “The King’s Plan” was set in a time too far gone. Not to mention that it would be an on-the-spot recording too. She had to figure out what almost every single line was trying to portray.

She tried her best to blend herself into that era to imagine herself as the character and put herself into her shoes.

To see what kind of expression or mood should be shown when she was saying that line in that scene.

The feeling would differ every time she tried to figure it out. She wrote down her opinion on the sticky notes.

She also had to research the relevant materials when the scene cited real history to make it simpler to understand. It would also make it easy when they had to play with other actors.

It was fortunate that this was a film script. And a film that was dominated by males too. Yun Xiangxiang’s part only took up the middle part. She finished making all the notes in an afternoon’s worth of time.

She couldn’t help but recall the scripts for her TV dramas in her previous life. Sometimes there were seven to eight books of scripts for a single drama…

Yun Xiangxiang thought that her efficiency saw a dramatic increase especially when there was an intermission when her boyfriend served delicious snacks and fruit tea.

Song Mian had already started cooking when she was done with her work. Yun Xiangxiang went to wash her hands and then called Yun Lin over.

“Sister, you finally remembered your adorable little brother,” Yun Lin appeared in front of the door with Little Angel in his hands.

“Aiya, shouldn’t you thank me for letting you and Little Angel be together for so long?” Yun Xiangxiang pinched Yun Lin’s little face.

He better not think that she didn’t know that this little kid would have come knocking out of frustration if it wasn’t for Little Angel being there.

“Tosh. What I was doing was not letting Little Angel interrupt your lovey-dovey time,” said Yun Lin seriously. “You will never ever find another little brother as good as I am.

He really never let the chance to fight with Yun Ting go. Yun Xiangxiang pushed him inside feeling half amused, half annoyed. “Wash your hands fast.”

Yun Lin consciously took Little Angel away after dinner. Yun Xiangxiang helped Song Mian with was.h.i.+ng the dishes.

Song Mian made a cup of herbal tea for digestion and sat on a sofa. A folding table was sitting in front of him. He continued doing his work.

Yun Xiangxiang sat on the sofa with her back against Song Mian’s shoulder. She took the script in her hands and memorized the lines while figuring out the mood of the scene.

She went home at nine o’clock and told Coco and the others about her request of having them move before they left. She asked He Wei about his opinion on it, to which he replied that he would not interfere.

She then called Guan Zi to ask her whether or not she could come over to stay at her home. She agreed readily.

She then delegated the remaining task of welcoming Guan Zi and arranging a room for her to Coco.

Yun Xiangxiang, who was lying on her bed after practice, was pondering about the gift she should bring with her on her visit tomorrow.

She didn’t know that she would be visiting last time. Not only did she not prepare any gifts, she even took a pot of orchid from Mr. Song before she left.

This time, she would be visiting with a different status. She had to prepare some presents.

It would be redundant to give the Song Family any supplements. It would also be unnecessary to give them any food that wasn’t made by her own hands. She also didn’t know their preferences on necessities. They might probably be quite particular in their choice of food, clothing, and necessities.

The bored Yun Xiangxiang opened her WeChat contacts to find someone to discuss. She instead discovered that Li Xiangling had sent a message.

She said that a friend of hers wanted to sell a piece of ambergris. Buyers should private message them for the price.

She immediately called Li Xiangling, “Xiangling, is that friend of yours who’s selling ambergris trustworthy?”

“Absolutely. She’s my roommate. Her family makes spices,” Li Xiangling said to her. “I went to her house before.”

“I saw the picture you sent. That ambergris of hers should be a wholly natural one. They shouldn’t face a shortage of buyers,” Yun Xiangxiang was puzzled.

“Some details in there are related to her family’s privacy. I can’t really tell you about that. But this piece of ambergris is absolutely safe,” Li Xiangling guaranteed it. “The quality is okay, and the source isn’t shady either.”

“I trust you,” Li Xiangling was someone who did things steadily. She would do anything on a whim. The merchandise must have been sound if she dared to post it on her wall. “How much is she asking?”

“It weighs eight hundred and one grams in total. She’s asking for two thousand yuan for each gram. Round that down to eight hundred grams,” Li Xiangling answered.

It was slightly higher than the market price, but its quality seemed to be not too shabby. Besides, it was a rare merchandise that was about to get even rarer in the market.

“Can she send it over to me tonight?” Yun Xiangxiang enquired.

“Let me ask her,” Li Xiangling called her roommate over. “Send me your address,” she answered Yun Xiangxiang after two minutes.”

“I’ll transfer the money to you first?” Yun Xiangxiang asked again.

“I discussed with with her just now. She’ll send the item to you first for you to check it. You can transfer the money if you find no problems with it. I’ll be the guarantor.” Naturally, Li Xiangling would make more consideration for Yun Xiangxiang.

Yun Xiangxiang was moved, “Send your bank account details to me.”

She could only make the transfer that involved this much money through online banking’s USBKey.

Yun Xiangxiang hung up and sent her address to Li Xiangling.

Li XIangling replied: [Just give the address of the entrance, Xiangxiang. I can say that the buyer’s my friend, but how many of my friends can afford this? A lot of people would be able to guess that it’s you. You’ll expose your address too easily. I’ll ask the courier to call Sister Qian when they arrive later. You can ask Sister Qian to take it.]

Yun Xiangxiang was a public figure now. Countless people wanted to know her address, and the courier was her cla.s.smate’s relative.

Li Xiangling might be able to guarantee that her cla.s.smate wouldn’t say anything, but she couldn’t say the same for everyone else. She didn’t want to cause trouble to Yun Xiangxiang.

[Okay, thank you, Xiangling.]

Yun Xiangxiang immediately notified Song Qian of this matter. She looked at the time and found out that it was only ten after ten. Song Qian received the call after they waited for about fifty minutes. She then texted Song Mian.

[Are you asleep?]

[Just laid down.]

[Wait ten minutes for me. I need you to help me examine something.]

[I’ll go down.]

Song Mian appeared in front of Yun Xiangxiang in pajamas, “What’s the matter?”

“I just bought a piece of ambergris. Don’t know whether it’s authentic or not. Help me examine it,” Yun Xiangxiang said smilingly.

Ambergris wasn’t just an ancient spice. It was also a traditional Chinese medicinal ingredient. She believed that Song Mian must know it.

“Girlfriend, I’m jealous,” Song Mian said suddenly. “You didn’t even prepare any gifts for me yet.”

She bought it so hurriedly at this hour. Yun Xiangxiang wasn’t interested in spices either. Who else would the gift be if not for the old fogey they were going to visit tomorrow?

“I will definitely make detailed preparations when it’s your birthday. It will be better than anyone else’s,” Yun Xiangxiang a.s.sured.

“It’s still a long way to my birthday,” Song Mian didn’t back off.

“New Year then. It can’t be sooner. Or else I’ll just forget it,” Yun Xiangxiang took a step back.

Only then did he smile and marched into her home.

It didn’t take long before Song Qian took a very cla.s.sy looking box up and handed it to Song Mian directly.

He opened it; smelled it; took it for a couple of glances before asking, “How much did it cost?”

“I’m not telling,” Yun Xiangxiang made a face at Song Mian. It wasn’t customary to tell someone’s son about the price of the gift they were giving to their father.

Song Mian seemed to see through what she was thinking before saying, “It’s authentic. The appearance is great. It’s a steal if it’s below two million yuan.”

Yun Xiangxiang instantly smiled until her eyes were narrow curves. She packed the item nicely, “Thank you, boyfriend. I won’t disturb your rest anymore. You can go now.”
