Chapter 65: Unravelling (1)

Cheng Qingrong wanted to check on Lin Xin's condition, but his hand was. .h.i.t back by Lin Xinyu.

Lin Xinyu harshly uttered, “Scram. We don't need your pity.” In this world, there weren't any genuinely good people. They were all selfish, evil spirits. Even the act of adopting them was not done out of honest intentions, but in order to benefit his wife's illness. Who would have thought that his wife would go crazy and lose control of herself?

Cheng Qingrong lowered his head in shame but still insisted on checking over Lin Xin's condition. “I'm a doctor, let me have a look at her.”

Lin Xinyu didn't trust him, but the fact that Cheng Qingrong had a doctor's license was certainly true. Lin Xin's safety was of utmost importance to him and he gave up his position after hesitating for a while.

Cheng Qingrong stepped forward to examine Lin Xin's eyelids, then he checked her pulse. Seeing that she was fine, Cheng Qingrong's tension eased and he told Lin Xinyu, “She's fine.”

Knowing that Lin Xin was okay, Lin Xinyu's anxious heart quieted down. He hugged Lin Xin and asked, “Then why is she still not awake?”

“A strong impact can lead to temporary shock,” Cheng said. “She'll be perfectly fine if she takes a break.”

Lin Xinyu was skeptical of his words, and he thought of the “Human Acupoint Charging Point” on the map. He tried pinching the acupuncture point, and Lin Xin slowly opened her eyes.

She coughed twice, covering her chest as she said, “Oh, Little Yu, so a heart attack was this hard to bear. I feel like I'm going to die.”

When Lin Xinyu saw that she had woken up safe and sound, and was even able to say some teasing words, all of his grievances burst forth. He held her and began to cry.

“I'm fine, I'm fine, don't cry.” When he cried, her heart ached.

What are you crying for, she's alright. There's no need to further cry.

Lin Xinyu said in a childish tone, “Lin Xin, let's go back to the orphanage. It's not good here, I wanna go back to the orphanage.”

Lin Xin patted his back and admonished: “Idiot, I'm fine. If you don't like it here, I'll take you somewhere else. Don't cry. “

Hearing her words, Lin Xinyu held back his tears and stopped crying. He held onto Lin Xin's right hand tightly, afraid that she would somehow disappear from his sight.

After Lin Xin comforted Lin Xinyu, she went straight to the point and asked Cheng Qingrong.

“Why is your wife insane?”

Cheng Qingrong lowered his head and said, “Unable to stand the death of our son and daughter, she lost her mind.”

Lin Xin berated, “You liar!”

Facing the twelve year old girl's questioning, Cheng Qingrong was a little afraid. He did not dare to look at her directly and said, “My son and daughter were burned to death, that's why she went crazy.”

“I don't think so. Your son and daughter met with fire, were rescued, and sent to the hospital. They were badly burned, and your wife cannot see them suffer. She personally sent them on their way.”

Cheng Qingrong raised his head and looked at Lin Xin in fear, as if she was a ferocious beast that wanted to eat him.

Lin Xin looked at him in disbelief, thinking: My guess was true, I was right. She took a step forward, supported Cheng Qingrong, who was on the verge of fainting, and led him to a seat. She sat across from him and said, “I just want to know the truth. And don't you think it would be better for your wife to know?”

Cheng Qingrong lowered his eyes. After a while, he lost all spirit and said, “Little Yin pa.s.sed away on the way to the hospital. Little Yuan was saved.” She roughly knew the rest of the information even without even being told.

His daughter had died, and his son had been saved but suffered ma.s.sive burns; he would be in great pain while living when he woke up, and as a child, he couldn't handle it. The mother sent the child on his way because she did not want to see him suffer. The details were unknown.

It is a sad story, and Lin Xin was ashamed of herself for using it to coerce people in order to reach her goal. But, she couldn't find a way that'd be simpler or safer than this one. She only believed in herself and as such could not place confidence in Cheng Qingrong's verbal agreement. To her, it did not guarantee a thing. She wanted to make sure that he fully focused on Xinyu receiving 100% of the treatment.

So, Lin Xin continued, “Your wife took out the oxygen tube?”

Cheng Qingrong raised his head sharply, his eyes subtly flas.h.i.+ng as he said: “No, how could Hui Hui bear to do that? She was so kind-hearted that when she saw injured birds, she'd want to retrieve them and nurse them back to health. It was Little Yuan who had begged her. Little Yuan, who'd once woken up and desperately begged, begged and begged her, leading her to grant his departure.”

Lin Xin thought of her mother and of the abandoned children in the orphanage. However, even when she saw how many were abandoned, she still believed that most mothers in this world loved their children more than they loved themselves.

Unable to bear the child's pleas, she personally sent him off. How much determination did she have to make in order to make such a decision? It was no wonder that she would go crazy after going through so much suffering every day.

Lin Xin felt despicable for using that motherly love, the feeling of uncertainty made her panic. But, ever since Lin Xinyu fainted, she felt even more uncomfortable about his situation. If only she had a lot of chips on hand, she would be more at ease and would not have to use such dirty methods. Nevertheless, she didn't, so Lin Xin suppressed both her sympathy and conscience, asking, “Are we doing her any good?”

Cheng Qingrong raised his head and looked at Lin Xinyu. He was pleased and said, “Hui Hui is fond of Xiao Yu.” He also liked this child. As for Lin Xin, he felt that she was a weirdo that made others feel scared.

“We will treat her well. As long as you can guarantee Xiaoyu's illness, I hope it can be done tomorrow.” She also wanted to say that if he didn't treat him well, his wife wouldn't be able to tell. In the end, she didn't say it out loud.

Cheng Qingrong contemplates whether to send them back or not. He was afraid of Lin Xin, but Lin Xinyu was a good boy. His wife also liked him. After weighing the pros and cons, he finally decided to keep the two children.

He was an old scholar, and when he thought about how he had beaten Lin Xinyu, he could not help but lecture, “I hit Xiao Yu because it's not good for boys to cuddle with girls.”

Lin Xin quickly told Cheng Qingrong what had happened.

A/N: oof, I really didn't like how this chapter turned out to be honest. As always, thank you for your support!
