12 Chapter 12: Even Slaves Have Magic?

"Hrgh..." She came to slowly, and I finally saw her eyes as they blearily opened up. They were green as any cat's would've been that I remember, and had pupils almost halfway between a cats slit-eyes and a human pupil.

Her eyes began to focus on the fuzzy indistinct shapes before her. 'What... where... last I remember Master Greyfus and Miss Amycla were...!!!"

Her eyes snapped open as she sat up, the world rapidly coming into focus, only to turn hazy again as she felt dizzy.

Suddenly a soft but firm male voice came to her ears; "Hey be careful, I put some effort into keeping you alive y'know? Here, eat this apple okay? Trust me, it'll help you feel a bit better."

She turned to her left and saw another beast Kim with red-brown eyes and hair, a rather fluffy tail, and pointed ears holding a white apple with golden lines all over it.

She a.s.sumed him to be some form of Wolfkin, and as a magic wielder, she sensed the light energies in the apple.

She looked at him puzzled, by the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere in comparison to the b.l.o.o.d.y scenes she last remembered, and the pain.

She looked down and saw that some ripped pieces of her tattered pants had been improvised as bandages, and that from the knee down her legs were bare.

The Wolfkin shook the apple impatiently, and she took it and took a large bite, feeling the energies within releases and soaking into her.

She let ouch a sigh of pleasure at the sensation, and then snapped back to reality with a blush, seeing the Wolfkin pointedly looking away. She quickly got up and took a few steps back, doing a small bow and said "Luna Behstuv of the Behstuv clan. Thank you for giving me this treasure, but I must return to my master, or I'll surely be punished."

The Wolfkin looked at her, confused when she started, but nodding in understanding as she finished. He asked, "which one was your master, the man or the woman?"

Luna felt a sliver of apprehension as she answered "The man."

The Wolfkin nodded and said "He died along with the woman while taking the wolves with them. You were the only survivor. Is there anywhere you can go?"

The girl shook her head as she numbly processed that the man who'd bought her, beat her, and often threatened to enjoy her was dead.

She expected some kind of relief, but rather felt numb and empty.

"Well I suppose you can stay in my home then. At least till you recover. We'll eventually find a way to get that collar off of you, so don't worry about that. If you'd like, you can help me gather food later."

The girl looked up as the man stood up, towering over her by quite a few inches, and he smiled and said "I don't have a name, so call me whatever. And welcome to my home. Only rules are, don't enter the building. Okay?"

The girl stared in some surprise. Who didn't have a name? But she nodded automatically as he asked, and he smiled, with a rather cheery grin that lit up the area with its joy and enthusiasm.

I observed the girl before me, Luna the Behstuv, which is apparently this worlds proper term for Catkin or Neko's.

I had let her stay, both because it felt like the right thing to do, and it would net me loads of DP.

It totally wasn't because I'd gone dumb from trying to ignore how hot that moan was.

'Even I'm not buying that c.r.a.p.'

'Shut up me, I've been alone without a body for a literally infinity, so of course my defenses are easily breached!'

'Sure, sure.'

As I would find out over the next few days, she seemed shy and terrified of any too-loud noises or fast movement, which left me with the desire to go back in time and blow that mans body to pieces instead of burning it.

I knew that on earth we considered slavery "bad", but I had little memory, and therefore little bias.

When I first saw Luna, I accepted that slaves were likely necessary to the government system in this world, and G.o.d knows I'm not gonna go try to ridiculously change that.

But after a few days of silently gathering food, gaining DP, and interacting with her bit by bit as we tried to stay outta each other's way, and seeing how she acted, how all the joy a kid of 14 should have wasn't even able to come out, how no matter what happened I never saw a smile...

I'd given her new clothes, and she'd thought I was going to force her to pay for them, by money or body. Like... yeah.

I gained an opinion about slavery from this.

My bias is simple: slavery can be necessary, but anyone who uses it to debase someone as something less than human, or who takes away their basic rights as an individual with their own body, is nothing more than an abusive p.r.i.c.k, rapist, or murderer.

So basically, treating slaves well would be the dream, but in reality, I want to murder most of the owners and Slaves Traders.

After successfully showing her the clearing and shrine on the lake, I brought her out to the 'Orchard' picked a few apples to roast with nuts and spices that first night.

This became ritual for most days until on the 3rd day of her time here, I finally brought up a question I'd been wondering since she started showing me how to learn to blend flavors for cooking, and such.

As the sun fell, we both sat around the small fire pit if dug out off to the side of the shrine, and made out meal.

"So Luna... what kind of capabilities do you posses? Are you trained to cook?"

"Yes sir. I can cook, clean, can use a bow, and have some basic knowledge of wind and water Magic's."

"...HUH? You know magic?!"
