“Huh?” Xia Ning looked to Qiao Yu with confusion.
Qiao Yu suddenly let go of her hand and took out a stalk of broccoli and a piece of beef from the fridge. He walked to the marble countertop and threw the food into the sink. He then looked at Xia Ning. “I want this.”
Xia Ning was speechless.
So the father and son were both waiting for her to cook for them?!
As a father, Qiao Yu did not cook, so his son got hungry.
Thinking of this, Xia Ning became speechless. Why is Qiao Yu so childish?
“If I didn't come back, would you be hungry until night?” Xia Ning looked at Qiao Yu in amus.e.m.e.nt. She closed the fridge and put the food on the table.
“If you didn't come back, I wouldn't be hungry,” Qiao Yu looked at Xia Ning and answered.
What did he mean by that? Did he become hungry because he saw her?
Xia Ning was a bit speechless. It was ridiculous.
“Go cook the rice. I'll wash and cook the dishes.” Xia Ning pushed Qiao Yu to the side and took the basket to pick the vegetables.
Qiao Yu saw Xia Ning working with her head down and suppressed the urge to get closer. After all, they still have time today.
When the food was ready, Enoch looked at the food on the table with s.h.i.+ning eyes. He was not even picky with the carrots that he did not like.
Xia Ning saw Enoch eating with a bowl in his hands and her heart ached a little. How hungry was he? She glared at Qiao Yu. He was the culprit.
Qiao Yu lowered his head as if he could not see Xia Ning's eyes.
But Xia Ning finally knew that Qiao Yu liked broccoli.
Although Enoch was hungry, Xia Ning only let him have a bowl of rice and poured him a gla.s.s of milk. She did not let him eat anymore.
He ate too fast, so he could not feel that he was full. If he continued eating, he would probably be stuffed again.
Xia Ning looked at the empty room and asked, “Where's Mom?”
Qiao Yu's hand on the chopsticks stopped for a second. He looked up at Xia Ning. She seemed to be calling 'Mom' more and more smoothly.
Seeing that Qiao Yu was not talking to her, Xia Ning looked confused. “What's wrong?”
“Shen Donglai had a heart attack. She went to the hospital to keep Aunt company,” Qiao Yu answered. He lowered his head and continued to eat.
“Oh.” Xia Ning nodded and did not say anything else.
After dinner, the family of three huddled on the sofa.
Enoch was playing with his game console. Qiao Yu was reading the newspaper while Xia Ning was playing with her phone.
But seeing her son staring at the game machine, Xia Ning could not help but say to Qiao Yu, “Enoch is already four years old. It's time for him to go to kindergarten. It's not good to play games at home.”
“Mummy…” Enoch heard this and looked up at Xia Ning with a wronged face. “Mummy, are you tired of me?”
Xia Ning said at once, “Of course not. It's just that you are at the age to go to school. You should go to kindergarten and play with kids instead of playing games.”
Enoch heard this and turned to Qiao Yu immediately. “Daddy…” His voice was full of pleading.
Qiao Yu darted a look at his son and said to Xia Ning, “Four years old isn't that old. Maybe in the next half a year.”
“Sure.” Xia Ning nodded. She was not annoyed by Enoch. She was just afraid that he would lose the fun of playing with kids in his childhood.
“But I have a question.” Qiao Yu's voice came suddenly.
Xia Ning looked up at him and asked, “What?”
Qiao Yu stared at Xia Ning. “What will his ident.i.ty in school be?”
