Chapter 405 Taming

Chu Long looked at Long Xiaoqi and assured her, “If you’re worried, why don’t you send out a message on your communicator? We should be maintaining radio contact.” Indeed, as long as they were within communications range there should be no problem.

Long Xiaoqi decided to give it a try. Five minutes later, she solemnly replied, “I can’t find his signal…” Chu Long and Yu Qian failed to find Xiang Ning as well. It looked like Xiang Ning’s location was too far from them. Not only was he not replying to their message but even his signal was lost.

Everyone fell silent. No one knew what had happened within the city, nor did they dare to go find Xiang Ning on their own. What if he suddenly returned? With their current strength, it would be dangerous if they met a large group of beasts or cult members. They only prayed that he would return safely. They could only stay there for two hours, no more and no less. The mission came first, especially now that they had realized they weren’t alone.

Time slowly passed as they waited; it was agonizing. A single second felt like so long. After an hour or so, Chu Long could no longer wait. He wanted to enter the city and look for Xiang Ning, since it was very quiet now. Just as they were debating the sound of footsteps approached them. They were immediately alerted by them and realized it wasn’t the sound of an approaching human. They took their stances.

The footsteps grew closer and closer. They readied their weapon. Yu Qian held up her sniper while Gu Kun took out his sword. He was certain it was a beast.

Just as they expected it to pounce toward them, a shadow appeared from the bushes. It was indeed a beast, and it was a rare type of beast. They were just about to attack when they saw someone riding it. It was Xiang Ning! Xiang Ning was riding a beast. This was incredible!

While there were beast tamers in the world, it was close to impossible to tame beasts. There were numerous criteria that they needed to meet. The first one being that they needed to choose a good breed to begin with. They couldn’t just choose any beast they wanted. It was also sometimes hard to determine a beast’s type before they grow into an adult. For example, there were people who would mistake a cat-type beast for a hound-type beast.

The waist of a cat-type beast was soft, so it would never allow for humans to ride it. While there were many myths of people riding lions or tigers, that was almost impossible in real life as they used their waist to start their movements instead of their limbs.

That was why, even if you rode one, it would be weak and slow.

The second criterion was to ensure that the beast must be integrated into human society no more than a week after its birth, or while it was still in its egg. And even then, the chances of success were low. Beasts had a strong instinct to hunt humans. The vitality of humans was also too tantalizing for them. While it would recognize a person as its master, what if it developed a taste for human flesh?

As for adult beasts, don’t even think about it.

Xiang Ning was riding a giant wolf, just like those in Norse mythology. It was covered in brilliant white fur, like a sheen of frost. It was a beautiful beast. While it wasn’t strong, it was still very beautiful. It was a rarer beast, and the one he was riding was around tier three.

He leapt down from the Frost Wolf and chuckled, “Pretty cool, eh?”

Listening to his light tone, everyone more or less knew that he wasn’t injured. On the way to the rendezvous point, Xiang Ning had felt a bit of pain in his back so he used two hundred thousand Fury Points to use the raffle but obtained only three healing potions. He almost shouted profanity before he saw he won something else.

Two new blueprints and one new technique.

Special technique: Beast Taming

Allows the user to tame beasts up to two tiers below them (Note: Low chance of success. Beasts are more likely to be tamed when they are afraid or have other negative emotions)

Xiang Ning drank the three healing potions as he read through the description. He decided to try it and took one hour just to tame a single beast. It had taken him considerable effort just to tame the Frost Wolf. It had been very fierce at first, but now it was just like a puppy.

“How’d you do it?” Gu Kun saw the Frost Wolf and was surprised, even more so since he had a deeper understanding of beasts than the rest.

“I just told it that I can feed it a lot of high-quality meat if it follows me.” That was more or less the truth. He had spent a lot of effort just to tame this single beast. First, he tried scaring some beasts using his Sovereign’s Throne and Grim Claw’s aura. While it succeeded, all of them were afraid to the point that they shivered and stood in place when he mounted them. How could he use them?!

Thus, when he saw the Frost Wolf, he changed his strategy. He spent a lot of time killing a tier five beast and two tier four beasts. He found them running away when they were spooked by how the Sawtooth had been killed. He fed them to the Frost Wolf before he succeeded in taming it. The results weren’t disappointing. Xiang Ning finally knew why everyone loved riding horses. Bikes and cars were overrated!

The rest didn’t believe him and rolled their eyes. They suspected that he must have a way to tame beasts, most likely with another invention. Since technology was so advanced now, it was likely that he had used a chip and directly controlled the beast.

But since he didn’t want to tell them the truth, they didn’t bother asking again. Instead, they wanted to know what had happened in the city.

Xiang Ning told them, “It was the Seven Deadly Sins. One of the mutants was as strong as a tier seven martial artist.”

NEW PET! Urgh I want a skill like that too :(
